I normally don't like blueberry desserts, but this ice cream was creamy and lightly sweet. I was looking for a place for my daughter to get the energy out and, with good reviews, headed toward Riverwalk Park. It just so happened to be their Christmas market and fair - with face painting, vendors, special treats and games. My little one could have cared less about the aforementioned happenings. She cares about playgrounds and this park had one of the best we've seen. It was crawling with kids, so even better for entertainment! She played for hours. There was plenty of space, nooks and crannies for kids to run and do their own thing. The equipment all looked in good repair and the park was very clean. Everything is surrounded by mature trees so the playground was shaded during our visit. As lunch approached, we walked over to the water for some calm & relaxation. There are a couple of boat ramps, though I believe I was there at low-tide as one looked inaccessible. There were also a couple of swings to sit and look out over the water. I noted a walking trail as we were leaving and would certainly return to see the rest of the park. I was very impressed with my first visit here.

We found out you can, right here in Wilmington, by signing up for a new local produce delivery service called The Produce Box. We signed up after skyrocketing bills at Tidal Creek had us reevaluating our grocery budget. Our friends in Raleigh have been doing this for a while and I guess it is a service catching on across the country....glad to see something as cool as this in Wilmington. What is it, you ask? $22 a week and you get a good size box of locally grown, farm fresh produce to your DOOR. Yes, right to your front step. Essentially, its the same stuff at the local farmers market, but delivered. We are simply amazed and excited each week when our box comes...to top it off, they throw in samples of maple butter, bbq, honey, etc and you get a friendly note from farmers and produce box coordinators with recipes and what is going on in their world. Financially, we did the math and you'd have to atleast spend $40-50 a week depending on the produce for the same price. Buying direct from farmers really does make sense.... Nothing we've done so far in Wilmington has made us feel so connected to the community as a whole. No subscription, cancel anytime and if you are on vacation you just login and "skip a week" Real easy. After doing this for about 6 weeks, we've seen our grocery budget get back to normal (probably less) and you really feel like you are part of something special going on.... Here are the boxes for this week (they change each week depending on what is in season and what is fresh) - and, they offer "stock up" options like if you want some cucumbers for pickling. The produce is high quality here, not to mention, the sushi bar is great, the subs are the best, and they have a Starbucks in the store. The store is well staffed and you can always find someone to help you find an item. It is not the cheapest grocery store around, but they have tons of sales every week. Plus HT brand is usually pretty good.

Today my checker Jayla was extremely rude. This is not the first time I have been treated poorly by Jayla. She was not commutative when I ask her a question about an open bag of ice cream cups. She was not commutative when I told her my husband would bag. When I told her I would "round up" my bill, she again was non commutative. At the end of my visit she handed me my receipt without eye contact in fact she turned her head to the side and looked over her shoulder (no thank you or anything). Most of the checkers in this store are lovely people who go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. As I said, this is not my first experience with her behavior. Perhaps she needs better training?
