When I am in the area, this is my go-to Aldi location. Sometimes, I need to run in on my way home especially if I can't get to the location closest to my home before 8 PM. I always appreciate being able to get in and out at my own pace. Occasionally, it takes a little longer because items are stored in different locations than my home store. On this visit, I was in and out without incident and on my way up the highway. Let me stay that the staff at all Aldi locations work hard to keep shelves stocked. They have been trained to swiftly check you out. They are usually done scanning items before I have a chance to get my payment ready. After 11 years, it's time to update my review of this ALDI. I've shopped here a couple dozen times and I have watched the quality improve. It's no longer fair to say "cheap." ALDI works hard to keep their prices low. They do this by limiting the variety of brands on the shelves and by limiting the number of staff in the store. They definitely don't have everything but they do have *nearly* everything. And unless you have your heart set on a specific brand, you'll be okay. I save a solid 40% on our weekly grocery shop here with their inexpensive eggs, low cost steaks and chicken, great bread and semi-bulk produce. There are three big things that confuse the new ALDI shopper, so be prepared. First, you'll need to bring a quarter for the deposit on the shopping cart. You'll get it back when you return the cart and this saves ALDI the cost of an employee to round up carts. Second, they do not bag your groceries for you. As they come off the belt and go across the scanner, the cashier puts them right back into the cart. You'll need to step to the bagging shelf and put your stuff in bags. And third, you brought your own bags, right? If not, you can either buy bags or look for the big wagon of cardboard boxes. All of that helps keep the prices low. Want to spend more? There are endless supermarkets with higher prices. Once you get used to the ALDI way, you'll be hooked as I am. It is always the first stop of my grocery shopping. This is my favorite Aldi in the area. The store is clean, well stocked, and has self checkout for our convenience. The prices are low and the quality of the food is high. Some items are for sale all the time, but many items come and come. The Aldi Finds Isle has great speciality items for great prices. I don't do all my shopping here, but I stop in once a week to pick up essentials. read more

While I normally love Aldi, I was very disheartened when I went in to buy 6 gallons of water to donate to the people in Western North Carolina and was told I could only buy one even after I explained that it was a donation. There were a lot of water bottles and they were not limited, so I'm not sure why they would ever say that you can only buy one when clearly these people need them more than the people in Charlotte. read more

Came here due to their weekly sales ad. All items advertised were available. Not too busy on a Saturday morning. An Aldi employee was seen outside wiping down carts as they were returned. Nice selection of cheap foods, organic selections also offered. Wish there were better organic options. Friendly employees and clean store. read more

I don't know why recent the price at Aldi has gone up. I am not sure if it's just this location. Eggs used to be 89 cent for a dozen now it is $1.89, I mean that is more than twice as much! Also milk too, now they are $3.69 for a gallon, which used to be $1.99. I find it to be more price competitive to just shop at Walmart if you are really on a budget, plus the variety at walmart is better. One trick I found is if you want to make sushi, they have sushi grade ahi tuna here, it comes in 3 pieces, frozen, for $5.99. Also it could just be me, but I bought chicken wings here, literally 2 days after I took them out of the fridge, and they have a strong smell to them. This location they always only have 1 checkout lane available, the lines get super long. The bathrooms are also constantly out of order or the sink is broken, which is gross, and they as k that you use hand sanitizer. A couple times now, people have also just skipped me in line waiting to check out. The parking isn't super efficient, the fact that you have to turn onto old pineville also makes it somewhat difficult to make a left turn back onto Tyvola afterwards. read more

This is a German owned grocery store. If you're looking for cheap groceries, Aldi is your place. The same people who own Aldi also own Trader Joe's. What I found funny here is that you have to insert a quarter into the grocery cart in order to use it. When you're done, you pop the quarter out! It's basically a deposit to use the grocery cart. They specialize in their own brands so they're able to keep the prices low. We found almost everything we needed on our grocery list with a few minor exceptions. If there's an Aldi around, I'd probably shop there...unfortunately, I'll settle for Trader Joe's for now. read more

It is a larger store and they stock out if plenty of stuff. Come early or come again. They always have carts ready out front. So sorry that it's not my style of giving one star to Aldi. But this particular one that has been remodeled to their latest style has upset me a few times especially when you are in rush and need of something that should never be out of stock and they did, such as organic milk and organic salads. After I went there after work that out of stock and then I rushed to another store on Freedom just to missed their door by 5 minutes. Then whatever in special for the week, you better go on the first day. Even 2nd day, they may be out of stock as well. I've been shopping at Aldi for a few years now. This place has great prices, great selection of organic and healthy options, and isn't overwhelming with 1000 options of every item. The stores are easy to navigate and can usually get in and out in a hurry. I sometimes have a problem with fresh fruit/vegetables going bad quicker than other stores, but can usually gauge how long they will last by checking a little more while in the store. The lines can also get long when there's not many people working, but the cashiers are very fast as long as customers can keep it moving. read more

I save alot of $ shopping at Aldi but it is a different shopping experience - not fancy but I could care less with the money I am saving. I honestly think Harris Teeter has suffered greatly since I found Aldi! Some of my favorites are: dark chocolate bar with macadamia nuts, raisin bran granola cereal, the low fat ranch salad dressing (as good as Hidden Valley), olive oil, pickles, olives, tomato paste, canned peas, canned mushrooms, sliced swiss cheese, milk, eggs, romaine lettuce hearts, sliced turkey in the plastic container with the blue top, sometimes they have fresh pizza to take home and bake, love their chapstick-like products and face moisturizers and cleansers.....I could go on an on. I also love their produce (squash, onions, bagged potatoes, watermelon, strawberries, bananas, tomatoes, oranges, blueberries) but you do have to check it over as most is prepackaged. The blue chips are great! The only product that I do not like so far is the cheese-it type crackers....very bland. I did hear that they typically stock the shelves first thing in the morning so by late afternoon alot of the produce has been picked over. Go early! They only take cash or debit (no credit) cards. read more

If nothing else you really ought to be buying all your basic fruits and vegetables here. I really can't get over how much cheaper it is at Aldi for the same things you'd pay 2-3 times as much at Harris-Teeter. For example, a variety 3 pack of peppers (red, yellow, orange) is $3! You can pay that much for ONE PEPPER at H-T...or if you're lucky, $2.50. Ridiculous. Trust me, I eat a lot of peppers. Also, 5 lbs bag of gold potatoes for $2.50 at Aldi is normally about $5 at H-T. And don't even get me started on the avocados. That's perhaps where Aldi reveals H-T's hubris the most. You may not be able to find more exotic or fancy stuff like Belgian endive or kumquats but you'll find enough to make an extra trip more than worth your time. I suggest going to Aldi first and getting everything you can on your list there. Then, and only then go to Harris-Teeter or wherever for what you couldn't get at Aldi. Unless you go on to buy Maine lobster, giant crab legs or whole beef tenderloins you'll probably see your grocery bill cut in half. Isn't that worth an extra trip? One last thing; don't be put off by their lesser known brands. I don't eat much frozen or prepackaged foods, but through trial and error I can say their cheeses, hummus and anything with the Fit & Active name brand is pretty good. And I can be pretty picky when it comes to quality. Oh, and the marzipan stollen they sell at Christmas is out of this world!!! read more

The good: Clean, easy to enter and exit, great staff, on the light rail. The bad: Ghetto fabulous customers at times and they wont allow children to run or dance or stand on the grocery bagging counter, which I find to be a perfect distraction from the before mentioned ghetto fabulous customers. Anyways, if you haven't been to Aldis, check out one near you. I save about 30 bucks a week shopping there. And try the salsa in the refrigerated section. Holy crap its good stuff! read more

Unfortunately after my last visit to Aldi I have to update my review. I doubt I will return event though it is the closest grocery to where I live. This shopping trip was on a Sunday which is prime time. There were no carts to be found but we figured we would be able to carry what we needed. We grabbed a few items and while walking around the store I saw something disturbing - one of their pot roast packages had clearly gone bad with green spots all over the meat. Obviously we skipped on grabbing any meat and went to the check out where I tried to grab one more item and spilled everything in my hands. This would have been fine since I mostly had cans and packaged items but I had a container of blue berries that spilled everywhere. This is where Aldi completely lost me since an employee walked right by me and didn't offer paper towels or help as I was on my hands and knees trying to clean up. I collected most of the errant berries and went to grab another container. When I got to the produce area it was clear that many people had grabbed blueberries and the bottom layer was revealed and the entire selection of blue berries was covered in mold. It was completely disgusting. In my previous review I mentioned sometimes that I grabbed produce that had gone squishy, which is not good but these were flaws that could not be seen by staff to know they needed to throw out the items. The rancid meat and moldy blueberries (and this was a whole section not just one or two packages) was obvious to the naked eye and there is no excuse for it to still be on the shelf. read more

Stopped in at this location after a dentist appointment because the Aldi by my house did not have the item I was looking for. The store is very clean and looks like it is on the newer side. I asked an associate if they carried the item I was looking for and he directed me to where the item would be. Alas, they did not have it in stock either. This store had a much larger wine selection than the one closer to me. I don't usually buy wine at Aldi (Trader Joe's is close to my house as well so I hit that up) but it would be nice if I ever decided to have the larger selection. read more

I discovered Aldi just recently. Never knew one was so close but decided to check it out. If you have never been, you need a quarter to get a cart unless someone else gives you theirs on their way out OR you can take in your own bag to put a few things in. Everything here is cheaper than other grocery stores. Everything is off brand although occasionally you will find some branded items. What I like - baking goods, to me flour is flour. Idk if there is really a difference or not in the quality. Cheese - they have a nice selection of cheese. In fact the exact same trio was $2.99 vs $8.99 at the market that is Fresh . Found my dog a nice jacket for less than $10 compared to $30 at a Pet Market. Have never bought fresh meat or dairy items. Produce was cheaper but disappointing in the quality. I am a fan of Aldi Finds which is their weekly specials on random items. Worth checking out for sure. You do have to bag your own groceries so take bags or look for the bin of empty boxes that you can use. If it's busy, expect longer lines and waiting longer than you might at other grocery stores. read more

Aldi is a good place to save money but not quite as much of a bargain as other stores of this type. They're a great value for german things like real pumpernickel and german cakes and cookies. Their prices for the bare essentials are competitive vs. other stores for the most part. It pales in comparison to Grocery Outlets though in that in GO you can find gourmet and foreign foods for a spectacular bargain. Aldi is not so good in that department other than german stuff. Not a bad place to shop. the cash only, no bag policy is a minor annoyance. The service is slow (a single cashier and long line is a way they save money on staffing) and frankly indifferent at least at the Freedom Drive location in Charlotte. Overall, I'll keep shopping there, but supplement for goodies at Trader Joe's read more

We lived in SC for 21 years and had a bakery/deli. We bought our supplies from Aldis for years because it was lower than wholesale, lower than Costco and Sams Club and the quality very, very good. Also, for the reviewer who said they'd rather shop Trader Joes? Yes we also trade at TJ's for other items and Aldi-Nord owns Trader Joes. Their US names are Aldi and TJ. As for the 25 cent deposit for the carts? It keeps the parking lot clean and they don't have to pay their employees to retrieve them. Smart, I say. read more
