The Famous Tomato - Moon Pies

There's a sign in the salad bar area that tells customers a) The Famous Tomato has the freshest and…read morecleanest salad bar in Indy, and b) please don't touch the salad bar, and also wait behind this line so someone can help you create your salad. I guess this is how they maintain a salad bar that's so fresh and so clean. (No Outkast.) You animals used your grubby, bare hands one too many times to reach for the croutons, and now look what you did. Now we have to talk to someone if we want a salad, and point at what we want like a child. It's all your fault! Actually, it's probably for the best because the salad bar did look delectable and immaculate. So many fresh a clean vegetables! They also have an area with soup and chili, which the staff will also help you with. There are some tables in the salad bar area, so you can sit and eat your food inside the shop. Mostly, though, The Famous Tomato is a specialty food store. Lots of old fashioned candy, hot sauce and barbecue sauce, novelty sodas, so many different flavors of Moon Pies, and random things like salted peanuts in the shell. It's also a little farmers market, so you'll find lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. The Famous Tomato feels like a hidden gem, even though it's right there in plain sight in Speedway. For some reason, I would pass by it and I thought it was a Fazoli's? It's most certainly not, though. When you step inside, you'll see that this is a special place, with lots of special and local foods.

The price was incredibly cheap and the salad quality was very respectable. The person taking my order was very nice I would go back for a cheap and easy meal.

The inside is decorated super cute and has a couple of rooms with seating, so a small group of people can still have lunch together despite the small space. You order at the counter, but then everything after that is table service unless you want to order more food or drinks. They have a drink/dessert case near the register that had some tasty looking dessert options (lemon cake, matcha cheesecake, beignets, macarons), but I didn't try any during my visit. I ordered a 24oz iced banana bread latte with almond milk, a turkey and gouda toastie (a fancy grilled cheese), and a side of kettle chips. One friend also ordered the turkey and gouda with extra turkey and our other friend ordered a different toastie with a cup of tomato soup and a sweet tea. We all really loved our lunch, with one friend saying she liked her sandwich more than the last cafe spot we met up at. The food took longer than I would have thought to come out, but it was because the group next to us had ordered food right before we came in and we hadn't realized. They also forgot my side of kettle chips, but I just walked back up to the register to ask them for it. Loved that they offer a 24oz size for iced coffee, so I'll definitely be stopping in here again soon! They have order forms at the register to build your own charcuterie board to eat there or take to-go. I definitely want to come back to do that- it would be the perfect snack to have at a park picnic. The group next to us had all ordered small charcuterie boards, which was why the food took a little longer to come out. They all looked tasty and were the perfect size for one.

We thought a nice charcuterie board would be great for the family to enjoy with everyone at their home coming and going. I called a few places and they all asked for a few days notice, which I completely understand. This was my last phone call to a place that sells these, and despite them having a large function the next day, she said, "absolutely, give us some time and we will make it happen!" I picked up a board for around 10 people, it cost a little over $100, and was perfect! The family truly enjoyed it, said it was wonderful and I can thank them enough for fitting in the order. Highly Recommend!!!

It would have taken me THREE minutes to get what I needed for my SICK cat but NO it was,.of course, CLOSED. To make it worse , the dude saw me coming up and he STILL locked the door and it wasnt even 845p yet. It's BS. IT SAYS YOU ARE OPEN UNTIL 9PM YOU DONT LOCK THE DOOR UNTIL 5 MIN BEFORE THAT. if the extra 13 minutes is really going to kill you or cause dramatic street on your life GO GET A DIFFERENT job where YOU don't have to close the store. Be an opener instead of a closer. There's SEVERAL customers you have inconvenienced by doing this. And it's EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. luckily we have a other on in town that's likes to stay open until TEN pm and doesn't close their doors at 945p. They treat the customer how they should be treated. Keep on doing what you're doing.

Danville Chamber of Commerce Farmer's Market - Danville Farmer's Market

Danville Chamber of Commerce Farmer's Market

As I tend to drive through Hendricks County most Saturday mornings on the way to my parents' house,…read moreI frequently find myself passing this small town farmer's market located directly on the Danville town square. Yesterday, I finally stopped. This is a weekly farmer's market that starts on May 10th and will go through September 30th. It's held on the East side of the town square on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. through Noon. Parking around here isn't particularly difficult to find, though one side of the square is blocked off for vendors. There are accessible parking spots, though given the crowd they may or may not be available. That said, finding a spot along the residential areas off the square is easy. While it can be somewhat busy, it's pretty easy for me to get in and out of my wheelchair without a fear of getting hit. Let's face it. For the most part, rural drivers are just plain nicer. Nearly all of these vendors are under a canopy. The first thing I noticed was that everyone was friendly. There are people of all ages that come here and there wasn't a sourpuss in the crowd. This was simply a very hospitable farmer's market. It's a small market, for sure, but it's a pleasant market. The other thing to remember here is that this is a producer-only market. There are no resale items allowed. Items here are all grown, made, or baked by the vendor. If you see a craft here, and you will, the vendor made it. That's pretty cool. This market, as you might guess, is sponsored by the Danville Chamber of Commerce and vendors are signed up (no just showing up). Preference is given to returning vendors. There's a committee that reviews/approves vendors. What kind of vendors can you expect? I've seen coffee, candles, produce, bakery items, floral, plants, pet-centered items and much more. This farmer's market feels like a more traditional market. It's less commercialized and I love the emphasis on producers. It's also a great way to discover some new Indiana vendors who will definitely get some of my business in the future. I was also pleasantly surprised that more than one person offered to help me get items to my car - as a wheelchair user, farmer's markets can be difficult and the hospitality here really makes me want to return.
