Aldi always goes all-out for the holidays. #Thanksgiving

What's not to love about this store? Great selection of organic products, fresh produce and meats, and lots of exotic products from Germany that you wouldn't normally see in an American grocer. They also have great finds for the household, seasonal paper goods, and a systematic way of stocking and employing workers that guarantees you'll always pay incredibly low prices. This particular Aldi is fairly new, feels bright and fresh, and has ample lit parking. Definitely worth checking it out!

Still the best grocery store in town. Their prices are great! For example, today, avocados are 25 cents each. They have great selections of organic and gluten free items. Their cereals are the same as the name brands, and cost $1.89 a box. You can get up to $100 cash back with your debit card. I can splurge on things like organic milk, eggs, butter, and yogurt here because they're so reasonably priced. Their bunches of fresh cut flowers are $3.99.

I come here all the time. Been 10 years living in Bridgeville and this store has been consistently good. I am very grateful.

A great market, with truly helpful staff…read more Beautiful produce, delectable baked goods, etc. Unfortunately, it is way too expensive for me. Still, a beautiful place.

Disclaimer, I'm not a regular shopper at Fresh Thyme Market - not because the store is bad per se,…read morebut because it's pricey. Fresh Thyme is an organic food supermarket chain, so I'll stop in occasionally to see what's new and/or to treat myself to some "fancy" groceries. Because of the cost of their items though, I'll shop here for supplemental goodies after getting my main haul elsewhere. (For me, Aldi and Trader Joe's are stops #1 and #2. Places like this, Giant Eagle, and The Fresh Market are where I go "just because" or when I want to splurge on groceries.) When I do stop in I always explore the baked goods and frozen foods - usually there are items and brands in these sections that aren't at other stores. (A lot of items are gluten free, too, which I know makes a difference to a lot of people.) I generally skip the produce and deli sections; the selections in both are decent but I can find these things elsewhere for less. And here's something I've never had to say about a grocery store before: I ALWAYS walk right past their supplements section, which is (in my opinion) unnecessarily large. I could talk at length about my problems with how supplements are (not) managed in America, so before I bog down my own review we'll move right along! Final thoughts: their selection is fine, and in theory it's great that they sell a variety of "healthy" things. In practice though, the food products are overpriced, and there are enough vitamins and supplements on sale that I almost question whether or not this should be classified as a grocery store. While I'll pop in and out of here occasionally, I'll never be a regular shopper.

This is a place where you need to be careful when you are buying produce. I was a bit disappointed…read morein the fact that they did not have a whole lot to choose from but they did have some unique melons which I had never heard of before. The current "in season" items right now are corn on the cob, tomatoes, peaches, and melons. There is a dairy case but nothing exciting about it along with a meat case. I wasn't impressed with the meats in it nor with the frozen cherries I saw. For the most part you can spend under $10.00 depending on what you get. I was blown away by the huge cantaloupes they had for sale. They were $4.50 each. Unfortunately when I got my selected melon home and began to cut it the juice ran all over the place and I could tell it was overripe. They do have items noted directly from farms. I ended up with a green pepper for $.25. Other peppers were a bit more. For corn on the cob you can get either white or yellow corn. I choose half a dozen white. They come prebagged and the one I selected had an extra ear of corn for free. I cooked one of those up when I got home and it was fresh and good. I was taken aback however when I saw they were selling overriped bananas that had started to turn brown. Normally I would find this type of thing in your regular supermarket but never in a place like this. They sell other things like popcorn and honey and jams to name a few. I was told that their greenhouse is currently undergoing transformation for fall so I really didn't get an opportunity to visit it. I asked about their other location in Cecil and learned that it was basically a nursery as opposed to a farmer's market. It is run by someone else in their family. The staff is friendly and helpful in explaining things to me. Credit cards are accepted on any order over $10.00. It is located on Bower Hill Road as you head towards Bridgeville.

Call it Pig Heaven- this is my local farm fresh creator of the Notorious P.I.G- a any time of day burger that is best ordered farmer style (with Millers Mustard and Organic Kraut) I like to add a farm fresh egg to make it even better. OK if your a vegan you can skip the meat and order a grilled polenta topped with Cowboy Candy (the Cowboy Candy is an organic homemade pepper relish that has some sweet and some extra heat and like candy is addictive). For Glutten-Free diners order Annie's Open Faced PIG on Polenta. Kids love our beef dogs with ketchup and polka fans love the Keibasa and Kraut with spicy homemade mustard. All ingredients and condiments are farm fresh and local with the exception of Heinz Organic Ketchup. Order in advance at thefarmersgrill.com. Blackberry Meadows Farms is the oldest certified organic family farm in Alleghany County. Meet the farmers at the grill, order a CSA and pick it up at the farmers market. They sell frozen meats, eggs and farm soap - best to order online for market pick-up @BlackberryMeadowsFarm.com. Free water and lots of good food - this is the best farm to hand stand in Mt Lebanon on Saturday. Also find the farm growing and cooking in Squirrel Hill on Sunday, East Liberty on Monday, Natrona Heights on Wednesday and Northside on Friday. My family waits for the farmers grill to open and this was a long winter. Enjoy and spread the word to help support small local family farming! Not to be missed and bring friends and family for a fun local agriculture adventure. Yum! this is a good as it gets because you know where the food comes from, it is all humanely produced and it is just so darn good.

Carnegie Farmers Market - Farmers market

Carnegie Farmers Market

After seeing posts online about this Farmers Market for quite some time, I finally made it out to…read morecheck it out this past summer! I stopped here around 1:30 PM on a Sunday in July for the second market of the season. The Carnegie Farmers Market is held right on E Main Street, and spans about a block or so. There is a parking lot on one side of the street, or there is plenty of street parking all around. Carnegie is relatively flat, so it is an easy walk to the market wherever you end up parking. Hours of the market are Sundays from Noon to 3:00 PM in July and August, and 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in September. When we visited, there was a good amount of patrons around, but it was not overwhelmingly crowded. Many patrons had their dogs, so they are definitely welcome to the fun. There are a healthy amount of vendors, as well as businesses that line the street which are also open during the event. On the day we visited, there were nearly 40 vendors, in addition to the businesses in the area. Vendors range from farms, food stands, hand-made gifts and goods, alcoholic drinks, local organizations, and much more. The beauty of a market like this is that they will change weekly! Some of my personal favorites from this particular market day were Cox Woodwork out of Aliquippa, and the Mexa food stand. I also enjoyed the live music playing. They bring in a different musician/musical group weekly, so that is also something to look forward to seeing differently each visit. All of the different vendors will have different pricing, but I did not think anything was extremely expensive or unreasonable. There are select vendors that accept Fresh Access and SNAP, which allows dollars to stretch even further than they normally would! We ended up spending over an hour in the area, between the vendors on E Main Street and the surrounding businesses that were open. Markets like these create such a fun atmosphere and promote community. It was fun to walk around, browse, and see all that the market and Carnegie had to offer. I look forward to being able to stop here again this upcoming summer! This is a great market that seems to be growing in both size and popularity each year. Be sure to check the updates that are posted on Facebook by "Carnegie Markets," as that is usually how I find out the latest information on this one!

If you are not looking for something to eat, but are rather in search of a cute gift there are also vendors that sell a selection of fresh, beautiful bouquet of flowers or small potted plants to choose from. There is a parking lot right where the farmers market locates, or you can park on the street as well. Most places will take credit card/venmo but I recommend having some cash, just in case.
