Aldi's is new to the US, but more importantly did you know that Aldi and Trader Joe's are related? Just knowing that you, would expect magical things to happen at Aldi's. And sometimes it does. I came home for the weekend to visit family and my mom was excited to take me to an Aldi's. She said it was a new grocery store and it was pretty interesting. It was interesting alright-- I went to grab a shopping cart and you need a quarter as a "loan" to borrow one. Sure you get your quarter back later, but seriously? This is supposed to make people put the carts back so that they get their quarter? It's a quarter. Don't you think the lazy people would just leave it wherever they want because it is just a quarter? And when you check out, you also bag your own items in your own bags. If you forget your bags, you can purchase them at check out. If you go with the flow of the store you start off in a snack aisle with nuts and crackers on one side and wine on the other. Towards the back of the store is the produce, meat, cheese, and dairy products. The aisles in the middle have canned goods and other household items, such as a garden hose or lawn chairs. They also have an aisle with discounted items for the week. They had a huge display of BBQ chips for like .18 cents or something ridiculous. Aldi's is great because of PRIVATE LABELING! That Millville cereal that has a bootleg tiger on it you are looking at is actually Frosted Flakes. Really. I know it's hard getting used to, since in America we are all such brand name junkies, but it's not a bad transition once you taste what is in the box. Private labeling is what Trader Joe's does. It is also what allows Aldi to have lower prices. My favorite thing from Aldi was a find in their sale section for the week. They were chocolate covered animal crackers. They had both white chocolate and milk chocolate. I picked up the milk chocolate ones and devoured them. I've been back a week later and I cannot find them anymore. Seriously, they were so good! The quality of chocolate was amazing. Same can go for their chocolate bars! Ever have Ikea chocolate? It's like that. Summary: Bring a quarter for a cart. Bring your eco-friendly reusable bags. Bring an open mind when it comes to bootleg looking brands because of the private labeling. Keep an eye out for chocolate covered animal crackers. My most favorite place in Anaheim this grocery store is my favorite place to shop for groceries or their magical aisle of items. You will find great low prices on so many different fresh produce, vegetables, dairy , pantry items or freezer items and even household!! The staff is always giving answers and are overall good energy to the store. I will be moving and will no longer be so close to this location which is going to suck! Aldi, please explain to me why my time isn't valued while shopping at your store. What should have been a quick shopping experience for me turned into a frustrating situation. A couple things I noticed that I feel your store should really look at to change for customer service. As the customer in front of me was given her total, she then decided to ask for a price check, the cashier told her she couldn't see that untill after the receipt has printed. So Aldi, you mean to tell me that your store register doesn't have the set up to see what price is being charged!? Unfortunately for me there was a price mistake because now that meant I had to wait longer when I had only six items and I was next in line to be checked out. So the cashier confirms the mistake she's told to do a manual return, well out comes the calculator and there's about 5 to 6 packages of stew meat that needed to be corrected. A second cashier is called to open up another lane and instead of taking the next person in line which would have been me with my six items he takes the third person in line so as I am standing in line becoming more inpatient as I'm watching the cashier calculate the numbers on this calculator and writing prices down on a piece of paper So she doesn't forget what she's doing understandably, I am now watching three people in the new opened line being checked out I politely asked the cashier if they're going to call a third person to open up another lane she didn't even look up at me and pointed and said you can go wait in line over there if you want. Obviously I was already annoyed but her attitude and her response only fired me up the worst customer service I've had thus far wall shopping at your store. Figure out your register settings or decide to take the next person in line verses the third person. Have some common consideration for the person who actually is next to be helped figure that out and definitely talk to your cashiers about better customer service if she's feeling overwhelmed due to her calculator skills there's a way to handle that stress, telling me, "things happen", isn't something I care to be told! Obviously the words, "I'm sorry mama, I'll be with you soon" isn't part of her vocabulary which is understandable since considering she was very rusty on her calculator skills too. read more

I am so happy that Aldi has finally made its way to Orange County. Aldi is great for grocery staples that are preservative free, gluten free or organic. They have a great selection of standard items at lower than average prices. They do not have many specialty items so you will still need to shop elsewhere for that. They do have a great baking section IMO. You will need a quarter and bags to complete your trips, as Aldi keeps cost down by not bagging and having shopping cart chasers. I highly recommend everyone check this place out when you get a chance, if only for basics, as it will save you a good amount of money in the long run. I can normally save 20-50$ more than I would normally spend elsewhere. read more

I like this store! Nice wide, clean aisles plus friendly helpful employees and low prices, yay! Also the store is the right size, not ginormous like Walmart but big enough to find the majority of items you need. I walked in and couldn't resist the chocolate bar I had seen someone post about, the Choceur chocolate - I got the dark hazelnut and OMG, it's so good!! It comes packed with tons of hazelnut and the chocolate is quality you can taste. I can't wait to try the other varieties! We also found a nice green tea with lemon and ginseng which I really enjoy for any tea fans, plus I'm getting over a cold so it was a perfect find. :) We did not need a cart as we only purchased a few items but I'm a fan of the quarter system! I'm tired of seeing carts rolling around parking lots ready to hit my car!! I'm also over seeing abandoned carts rolling around my neighborhood and hope more stores like Target and Walmart jump on the bandwagon! I'm not too worried about those few that 'don't have time' to return their carts, as I suspect many kids would like to return them to earn a few quarters. This reminds me very much of the days when LAX used to do this, as a kid returning the carts for some quarters was the highlight of the trip! The one thing that will take me some getting used to is bringing my own reusable bag. However, it was nice to see they sell reusable bags for I believe $0.79 - $1 which is a cool option. Something I found surprising was some unhealthy options, as I read someone mentioned this was a sister store to Trader Joes and was expecting everything to be healthier or at least not have items like hydrogenated oils. However, they do carry items such as snickers ice cream bars and frozen foods. But there are a lot of other items such as natural Pb, jelly made in Poland, cream cheese, and other items with great prices. I love Aldi, I've been to a few in different neighborhoods and this location had gotten worse over time because the transients outside of the store are scary. Inside the store has always been clean and organized, the line is ALWAYS long when I visit, but the prices and produce are worth it. I stopped by here Sunday morning since I was in the area and before I turned my car off there was a middle aged male in pajama pants, two feet away from my driver side door waving at me with a creepy smile. I decided to stay in my car and wait until he left, but he wouldn't leave and kept waiting for me to exit my car. I finally mouthed to him to get away from my car then he walked off and attempted to harass another gentleman in his car. This isn't the first time transients have asked me for money in the Aldi parking lot, but it's the only Aldi store where I experience this. Just be careful and mindful of your surroundings here. read more

ALDI is my jam. This review will cover some of the complaints that other reviewers complained about as well. I think the problem with some of the other reviews is that they were expecting ALDI to be a supermarket, it's not. If you haven't been, think of it more like a discount Trader Joe's (It's actually their sister company) with a big emphasis on saving money. Shopping Cart - What the hell? It costs 25 cents to get a cart? Yes, it's kind of annoying but I don't mind at all, and I keep a quarter in my car just for ALDI. I heard if you don't have one, the store will usually lend you one anyways. I've given a quarter to strangers that have forgot one as well. You get your quarter back when you return the cart. This is to make sure people aren't leaving their shopping carts in the parking lot. It works, I've never seen a shopping cart in the parking lot, and you can be sure if there was one - someone will pick it up and use it as their cart. Also, I've had people trade me a quarter after I've put away my groceries in my trunk, so I don't have to bring it back. The shopping carts all seem to be in good condition as well. The Selection (or lack there of) - Don't expect a big selection from ALDI. The usually have one name brand and their off brand - or only an off brand. It's very much like Trader Joes. This helps to bring down costs. Also, they display the items in their shipping boxes. This means that they don't have to pay someone to stock the shelves. They just put out a new box when it's low. ALDI does not have a deli or bakery. I go to ALDI for my staples - think cans, boxed foods, bread, cheese, milk, eggs etc. The Quality - I would encourage you not be discourage of their off brands, they are pretty good. In fact, there are several blogs that review ALDI products. I like their cheeses, their premium ice cream, and some snacks. I've heard people say that their chocolates are pretty good as well. It's not all roses though, I have found that their potato chips are not as good as Lays. I'm sure your mileage may vary but I think the quality is comparable to name brands and sometimes better. I have found that their produce and meat is not always the lowest priced or the best price or quality - but it's not bad. Also, ALDI has a double price back guarantee. If you are unsatisfied with a product - they will give you your money back AND give you a refund. Prices - ALDI is cheap, even compared to Food-4-Less or Walmart. Supposedly when ALDI moves into a new area, they purposely outprice Walmart. I believe it too. It's 80 cents for a dozen eggs. They also have a weird aisle in the middle where they sell discounted non-grocery items like BBQ's, coolers, seasonal items, tools and more. These are usually pretty cheap, it kind of reminds me of a Big Lots. Check Out Line - Maybe my favorite part of ALDI but I see a lot of complaints. ALDI doesn't have free bags - but no other stores do either so it's not a big deal anymore. You can always buy a bag for ten cents. The check out line is fast. Like REALLY REALLY fast. They scan the items faster than I can put them on the belt. I swear, ALDI is like the speed champions of fast checkout. They don't bag your items for you. They put them in another grocery cart that you exchange. There is a bagging counter at the back for you to bag your own groceries. Don't even attempt to do it as they are scanning them - they are fast man! I'm not exaggerating. I like this better than traditional grocery stores because I've never had to wait long at all to get through a line there. Also, this ALDI is clean. They have clean restrooms, they never have anything on the floor. I haven't seen people loitering outside or asking for money. Way better than shopping at Walmart or Food-4-Less. All the staff there have been very friendly and nice to me. The parking lot is decent - I can always find a close spot. It's never very busy (which kind of worries me, I want it to stay in business) but from a personal point of view - it's nice. read more

Customer service was very bad..horrible .I had an incident with couple employees..first of all I walk in with crutches..only 1 electric car available..so I'm walking around shopping I need help..employees are on their cellphones.for a good 5 minutes. I can't reach the high top shelf. No regard for their help..so continue shopping one of the employees by the name of alissian going by and in front of me with her washfloor mobile car..leaving wet streak Mark's on floor..I finally I confronted her...she gave a bad attitude if I fell or not so .continued her bad attitude and continued with her floors well I'm still on crutches..as I went to complain to manager she still running her machine and they went and got the wet floor sings after arguing..their was never a direct apology from them..they had no customer service training..the should not work in public service..horrible.. read more

Aldi is newer to CA and has that Fresh & Easy feel because it's a smaller store with your basic necessities. The whole quarter for a grocery cart isn't that big of a deal. It's to pass on savings to the consumer so I've got no complaints about it. Plus, my kiddos love to help and put the quarter in and take it out when we're done. Gives them something 'fun' to do while we're out shopping. Quality - For the price, you get what you pay for. They have a lot of good deals on pretty much everything in the store. I've always been one to bargain shop and normally you can't taste too much of a difference. Their produce is always pretty fresh as well. Selection - Not great but again, it's all the basics that you would need. If you're thinking of putting together a fancy feast, you might have to make another stop but for the most part, Aldi has you covered. Service - All the cashiers are friendly and I've never had any issues. Cost - Excellent. I feel like I save so much more here than I do at the neighborhood Walmart market. They might have a smaller selection but I'm willing to make that sacrifice. They have their own reusable bags for purchase as well as the paper ones for 10 cents. Cleanliness - I always see someone walking around cleaning, stocking or fixing something so it seems that they are on their game with keeping up a good appearance. Thoughts - I haven't yet seen a good variety of bagged mixed veggies or romaine salad in a bag. If they had those rotisserie chickens that would be awesome too. Those are my only real complaints. I was very hesitant about visiting Aldi for the first time, but after hearing such good things I had to see for myself. Don't visit Aldi expecting to see familiar brands because you won't see too many. One of the reasons their items are so cheap is because they don't use as many name brands as other popular markets. They have all of your food essentials plus a small meat section, frozen aisle, pet goods, wine, bread, and a large variety of cheeses. Since Aldi is a German based market, they also sell a small variety of German goods. Besides food, they also sell some home goods. I've seen deep fryers, blenders, vacuums, home decor, bathroom decor, pet beds, and other kitchenware items. These items usually sell extremely quick, so buy them while you still can because it's not a guarantee they'll restock the same items. The pricing is always great on all items. The vanilla iced coffee sold by the dairy aisle is my new favorite, so refreshing. Their frozen raviolis are filled with parmesan goodness. The heavy whipping cream is much cheaper here. Service is always great. If you don't have a quarter for the carts, ask one of the employees and they'll usually lend you one. read more

It's smaller than most grocery stores but offers some high quality products (artisan cheeses, fancy chocolates, etc.) There are also a few random home and lifestyle items that are significantly cheaper than you'll find other places, even online. This location shares a parking lot with Daniel's Furniture and is super clean inside. Will definitely be back to this location. **Soft opening on Monday April 18, and official Grand Opening Day on Thursday April 21st!** Come in now as they are fully operational a few days early! Aldi already has over 1,500 locations in U.S. mostly in the east and southeast and is now expanding into California. If you notice vague similarities between Aldi and Trader Joe's, it's because they are both owned by sister Aldi companies based in Germany. While Trader Joe's is the cool older sister, Aldi is the less cool but still doable other sister. Kinda like comparing Marcia Brady vs. Jan Brady. Just like at Trader Joe's, the vast majority of products sold are private label items created specifically for Aldi. There are some name brands but not many. The overall price point is noticeably lower than Trader Joe's and even Walmart. We bought several items including a frozen thin crust pizza that was a direct copycat of a California Pizza Kitchen. The sale price for Aldi's version was $2.69 vs. about $6 for the genuine CPK brand at a "mainstream" supermarket. I have to admit that I found the quality of the Aldi version to be basically identical to the CPK pizza. Make sure to bring a quarter to unlock the shopping cart (you get your quarter back when you return the cart). And make sure to bring your own re-useable grocery bags or you can buy their plastic bags for a dime or buy their reusable bags for $2. While Aldi won't be replacing my trips to larger "mainstream" supermarkets (triple the size of an Aldi) and Costco (I'm a Costcoholic), the clean and streamlined Aldi's experience combined with terrific value will surely develop a loyal following here. read more

I just can't believe what is all the pissing and moaning and pitching a fit by some reviewers about having to leave a deposit...a deposit of a quarter for a cart or having or brining your own bags. We entered the store today at 8:30 pm to get our groceries. At 9:00 pm sharp they closed a curtain blocking the vegetables and meat aisles while there was several people still shopping inside the store, and since we needed meat I pulled the curtain up, got what I wanted and pulled it back down when a lady from the staff yelled at me (in a rude matter) telling me it was down because they are closed. I understand the staff is tired and wants to go home, but it is not fair for the people that is already shopping to get certain items "blocked" just because of that. Well after getting a couple threats from ALDI shoppers PMing me on Yelp, calling me an "idiot" for having an opinion and that I am a "terrorist to mother nature" because of my stance on priced grocery bags.... yeah I'm not even gonna fuck with y'all. Also, the place looks like they literally threw a bunch of aisles together and called it a day. No aesthetic design, no friendly environment, but hey, the people are nice! Got any pocket change? Good, cuz you'll need 25 cents to acquire a SHOPPING CART. Out of luck? Well today's not your day because there are no baskets either. Might as well carry your 25 lbs. worth of groceries out to your car because they charge for bags as well. So if you're THAT frugal enough to add on the pains of ALDI, then go nuts. For me, the bottom line is how much money can I save. That's why I've given ALDI five stars. Now I'm not the kind of person who would suck it up and shop at Walmart over Target to save money on certain items. I have my limits... And personally, I just can't stand Walmart, and would rather shop at Target because it's prettier inside, even if I end up paying a little more. But when I comes to buying groceries, ALDI has become my new favorite grocery store. Although I've only gone during the week (not on the weekends) I've always found this location to be clean, not too crowded, and have good customer service. I've started buying all my staples here like produce, meat, bread, cereal, etc, and avoiding my local Ralph's. You really can't beat their prices... 99 cents for a dozen eggs! 99 cents for steam in the bag veggies! 69 cents for an 8 pack of hamburger buns! 99 cents for spices! 39 cents for a box of Mac n' cheese! $1.69 for a package of ready made salad! I can feed my family of 4 for a fraction of the cost I would spend at any other grocery store. This doesn't necessarily mean that ALDI has replaced my need to go to any other store... I still do much of my shopping at Costco, Trader Joe's and sometimes Sprouts...But it has definitely eliminated my trips to Ralph's and/or Albertson's. I just find it unconscionable to spend 50% more on my groceries elsewhere. The negatives of the store that some reviews have highlighted -- the shopping carts, the extra cost for the grocery bag, the ghetto area -- in my opinion are no biggie considering how much money you save at the end of the day. Loved the new Aldi store in Anaheim. It's small about the same size as going to a Walmart Neighborhood market. They have a ton of products made by Millsville which are cheap in price as compared to the brand name items. The store itself is very clean. Granted it has been open for just 1 day. The employees are all extremely helpful and cheery. Hopefully their demeanor will continue. Make sure to take a quarter with you. In order to use their shopping carts you need to insert a quarter to unlock it. Your quarter will be retrieved once the cart is returned. Also bring your reusable shopping bags along. Otherwise, if you choose to you can purchase plastic bags for 15 cents or paper bags for a dime. If you choose to opt out of the bags and did not take your own, they will place all your items purchased in the cart as is. read more

It's alright! Had to check this place out due to the buzz, and I was happy with my visit. I brought my own bag with me and didnt use a cart. I wasnt planning on doing too much shopping. The aisles are straightforward and wide enough for multiple people to walk through. The products are essentially stacked in the cardboard containers that they are shipped in, but this doesnt bother me one bit. I'm here to buy a product, not the shelf. The produce section was small but not tiny. The fruits looked alright, the veggies looked like they had seen better days. Good selection of frozen and chilled products. I just grabbed some snacks. Their version of cheez-its tastes exactly the same as regular cheez-its. The Aldi "hot cheetos" don't taste like the good old Flamin Hot Cheetos, but they were still okay. Aldi pizza "hot pocket" is not as krispy as a regular hot pocket, and it's wrapped in a tortilla or something. But for under $2 for the 2-pack it wasn't awful. Store is new so it was really clean. This is still Anaheim so unfortunately the crowd might be a little eh. I happened to be in the store when this loud trashy family was also shopping and the experience was annoying. Americans aren't very good with change. Aldi is finding that out. Because this Aldi business model is very different from what Americans are used to (especially Southern Californians). They are smaller markets, with just basics, and fewer choices; most of which are all brand new to the people shopping there and writing these reviews. This is very typical of European markets, and actually makes more sense, however this is America and we're going to be slow to adopt this model of grocery-getting. We like our options, and we like them BIG. It may surprise you to know that you've already been shopping at Aldi for years. Yep, Aldi has owned Albertsons, Vons, Pavillions, Ralphs, and Trader Joes intermittently for quite some time. We were so excited to see that they were still open/welcoming people in when we rolled up at 8:50. This was my first time at an Aldi and I was overall pretty impressed. It feels somewhat like a Fresh and Easy mixed with a trader joes, small and a little boutiquey but also a budget store. This location seems to be still being "unpacked" -- some of the shelves were still mostly in boxes and it just seemed a little bare throughout. That said, everything was very clean and organized, and selections were large enough to fulfill most of your grocery needs. First of, the prices are low compared to other supermarkets however you must buy their brand.. Which concerns me because I don't know if I can trust the product. Second, you must have a quarter to get a cart.. So if you need a cart bring a quarter! Inconvenient for someone who does not carries much change. Third I was rushed through my transaction to bag my things on the side, as a consumer I did not like this rushed express experience. I feel I have to double work to bag my items. Oh and by the way they charge you for bags, brings your own. :) Anyway, try this place if you want and see for yourself. Came to Aldi for the first time after reading yelp reviews. I knew about the quarter cart and bringing own bags so i prepared myself. It looked like a clean factory. First, i was very tempted by all the affordable snacks when i entered the store. The milk was cheap! Cheaper than the walmart's 2.89!! And the bread was 1.69,, the same size that i got for like 3 dollars something at walmart. yes, i shop at walmart for few necessary groceries. So i really liked that. Good price of milk, bread and snacks. The pillow and the bed cover sheet looked kind of out of place. I mean you dont see a pillow in trader joe's. I thought that was kind of funny. There wern't that many items, but it had pretty much necessary grocery items for your fridge. I liked the choceur raisin and nut chocolate bar i got. It is a neat store, but although it is in Anaheim near my work, it still is pretty far from home, so i think i'll stick to my walmart and trader joe's. To me, distance of a super market matters as well as the price. read more
