This place is fantastic. I was near Moncloa and don't normally go out to eat, so for one of the few times I did go out, I didn't want to end up in some restaurant eating mediocre tapas. Luckily, Yelp came through and this place popped up.
My wife and I walked in and were surprised by how nice it was inside. We were in a hurry so we at first sat near the bar, but the barman told us we'd be better off at a table and took our drinks into one of the dining rooms. We ordered pulpo ( as recommended by previous reviewers), a salad with goat cheese and foie, and a few croquetas. The restaurant could have easily charged us the whole price, but the barman recommended that we get half a portion instead. Even though the place isn't necessarily cheap, it shows they aren't out to take advantage of you either.
Needless to say, the food was amazing. It is the best pulpo I've had and I liked that they served it with mashed potatoes instead of sliced. The croquetas were fresh and were fried once we ordered them instead of being reheated as some places do.
What really impressed me was how personable the owner was. We were seated near the door, and he took time to speak with everyone who walked through. You could tell they have a lot of regulars. When he approached our table I felt he was genuinely concerned with our dining experience, which can often have a rather fabricated feel in restaurants in the States.
The only problem was that the map location shown on Yelp is incorrect as the restaurant is actually located further up Gaztambide. Plus, it might be a bit out of the way for people who are staying in the more touristy areas such as Sol. Still, if you're looking for a good place to eat, then it's worth the trip. read more
