There's a lot of debate over the 'real' Albert Square from Eastenders. It's strange that Albion Square is rarely mentioned. Besides having a similar name it looks very similar. There's also other parallels, with a council estate, a pub, a small market (The Wastes) and the canal all being near by. Right now there's no tube station, but that's actually coming to near by Lee Street!
Fact is there's probably no such thing as a real Albert Square. This is an example of a very pretty little square, similar to the fictional Albert Square. It has a small, well-tended park surrounded by lovely old houses. It's a lovely place to sit and be quiet. It is also occasionally used as a location for filming. Eastenders has visited (a night driving scene I believe), and more recently it was used as a location for 'Life on Mars' spin off 'Ashes to Ashes'. read more
