    Spinach pies
    Tonya T.

My first time here and I am regretting passing it up previously. I had hummus and spinach pies. The hummus was creamy and fresh It came with 2 pieces of pita bread. Lightly seasoned so that the India elements could hold their own. The spinach pies were not the best but were admittedly not freshly made (purchased from a company). I did not mind them so much because I had some freshly made tzizeki sauce to slather over the top. Garlicky with just the right amount of texture to be a highlight of the dish. My husband had the beef penne pasta with Alfredo sauce. I snuck a morsal. The beef was tender. The Alfredo sauce was seasoned with garlic, paprika and other spices to make a unique taste. He told me he had not told me how great it was for fear he would have to share.

Oil from the fried cheese not only pooled in the container, but seeped all the way through the paper to-go bag. What a mess.

Take out order was alright, but don't order the fried cheese. The chicken in the combo plate was not only dry, but also had no flavor. I've heard good things about this place, so maybe it's a better experience when dining in.

My husband and I love the chicken shawarma salad from Albasha's and decided to try same at Albasha Express in Mandeville. It did not disappoint! Same great salad and very speedy service. There is dine-in option, but meals are served as takeout in styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. Very excited to have Albasha Express in Mandeville!

We had a great experience and already have it on the list of go-tos when we are back in the city, as we return fairly often. First off, that bread. My gosh, I could have just sat for an hour and eaten it alone. I love that it just keeps coming too - we never once had to ask for more; by the time we were finishing up the pieces there, another set was delivered. Heaven. We had not one bad thing. The ikra was the surprise of the salatims/dips - so good - and the muhammara was excellent as well. That fried chicken hummus was perfect - so creamy and a bit of a different texture than most other hummus, but it worked. We tried the lamb kebabs and crispy halloumi - both of which were solid; however, when they say small plates, they mean small. I thought the serving sizes were a bit tiny. Nonetheless, we were full before even making it to the larger dinner plates and settled on the chocolate tart and knafeh cheesecake for dessert; honestly, I could have done without both. They weren't bad, but they weren't very flavorful to me. Definitely a 5-star, but if it wanted to be a 10-star, I would say a bit larger portions, better desserts, and more friendly service (he did his job but didn't really seem like he wanted to be there). Go now!

Like nobody unpacked any items in a while, just left everything as it was delivered. All the shelves are overflowing with different grocery items mostly snacks, I wonder how they keep up with expiration dates. Probably don't! You check in with a very soft spoken guy at the counter again covered in boxes of candy, snacks and let him know you have on line order. Mine wasn't ready right away so I took a stroll through cramped space between makeshift isles. Saw few interesting items but was scared to purchase due to not knowing how old the stuff actually is. Chicken shawarma comes with two sides, it was decent but on a drier side though and rice was the star for sure - perfectly cooked not clumpy and tasty. Accompanied salad was nice and fresh. Portion are good size. Salmon platter comes with 2 sides - rice and salad, rice again was good but salmon was very dry, like it was cooked yesterday and then reheated multiple times. Could hardly eat it. Order of appetizer hummus - very creamy and nicely seasoned but comes with only two kinda smallish pita breads really barely enough for 2 people. As dessert I ordered pistachio cheesecake - such a disappointment! It tasted weird, not at all like pistachio and didn't really resemble cheesecake but more pistachio mousse or something. Do not order!

The vegetable plates were absolutely delicious. The seasonal vegetable they had at the time was broccoli with harissa sauce which was yummy and I wish we had more of, honestly. The kale and cabbage salad was so good and refreshing. I'm normally not the biggest fan of kale but this salad was just so good, definitely recommend a large portion to share with everyone. We also got pickled cauliflowers as well, very fresh. Definitely loved all the sauces and all the vegetables. Felt like everything was very flavorful and refreshing. Order taken quickly at the counter: gyro wrap w/side of yellow rice, an order of Dolmas (8) and a soda. With tax & tip $34.88. Sat at a booth type table for comfort, only to discover we had to tip toe around the messy floor and I kicked away a ball of something rather than squish it. Husband said wrap was tasty but didn't remember they use a wrap instead of a pita for the gyro sandwich. (I had the gyro on our last visit.) Rice was good. My dolmas, however, were gross. I don't dip them in tzatziki, I typically like the taste. However, today the rice inside them was very, very gooey, as if they sat over the holiday. I ate 2.5 and threw the rest out. Someone came out to ask how things were but apparently didn't notice they were standing on rice. I didn't say anything about the dolmas, because by this time they were in the trash. Took home the remaining portion of the gyro, rice & tzatziki. Asked for a to go box, then asked again for lids for the sauce. Both times I interrupted someone playing on their phone, and the rest of the staff was hanging out talking behind the counter. Really wished they had taken the time to check the dining area.

I think their new management has drastically improved the menu, taste and quality of the food and I enjoyed everything that made it to the table. Standouts were the hummus, dolmas and chicken shish for me. The saj, as always was excellent and brought out fresh and frequently to the table. Being such a large group, we ordered nearly every mezze and meat dish, and a variety of drinks so it was the perfect place to host a group and get to try a little of everything. While the staff was very good at handling the group and our requests, I will say that they were stretched pretty thin. I sincerely thank them bc lots of little ones and busy parents are not easy.
