The emails were friendly so I felt positive.. I arrived at the shelter and Jillian said she had not been emailing me, and some other woman had. So she lied about exchanging emails. Our cat was really upset in her carrier and I almost changed my mind. She took our cat and she refused to let me see where our cat would be placed . She said something about a quarantine which was totally ridiculous. Our cat's shots were very up to date. Then Jillian had me fill out a very lengthy registration for our cat's history on a super tiny laptop which was incredibly difficult to use. I finally was done filling out the forms. I decided to just look through the window to try to see my cat. Jillian came over to me and said in a very rude tone, nothing is needed from you, so you can leave! I was very upset that Jillian would speak to me in such a horribly rude manner. I had donated a lot of towels, to the shelter and they were still sitting on a chair when I left. Not one word of thanks! I looked at my cat on the SPCA website and I felt sick! Our cat was sitting on a stained pet bed and half of the bed was hanging off a shelf. It did not look like a big space and there were no windows. I regret very much giving our cat to SPCA. Jillian should not be working there at all. She's a terrible example of customer service. I will never recommend SPCA to anyone in the community. I would go pay to get out cat back if I could. I am very worried about her. They have a weird rule about that though!

PetZoo - Raw Food For Dogs & Cats!

They have a great selection of food for both cats and dogs, along with tons of treats and toys to choose from. This is where I usually shop for canned dog food. They carry the Nulo wet food pouches that my Shiba Inu absolutely loves. He is such a picky eater these days! They also have a good variety of Honest Kitchen products, which I really appreciate. They also have big selection of Stella & Chewy's freeze dried raw dog food toppers. My dogs especially like the raw freeze dried chicken. The place was super clean and organized when I stopped in a couple weeks ago. I don't think I've ever walked out empty handed. The staff is consistently friendly and approachable. They are happy to answer questions and really seem to enjoy helping customers find the right products.

That said, this is a very modest zoo. There is only one small gift shop, which some may appreciate since the focus stays on the animals, but it also means there are limited amenities overall. If you are expecting a large zoo with multiple exhibits, food options, or lots of interactive elements, this may feel a bit underwhelming. One important thing to note is the terrain. There are several steep hills and loose gravel paths, so visitors should be cautious, especially with children, strollers, or anyone with mobility concerns. Good footwear is definitely recommended, and I would avoid running or rushing through the grounds. In the winter, the zoo offers lights so you can visit after dark, which is a unique feature and adds a different atmosphere. I also recommend downloading the virtual map ahead of time, as signage is somewhat limited and it helps with navigation. Overall, it is a pleasant, simple zoo experience that highlights local wildlife

Which, speaking of - the animals here are incredibly beautiful. I was surprised at how interactive and active the animals were. The coyotes howl back, the reindeers are clacking antlers, and the wolves will stalk you along the fence. Entry for Alaska residents is $16. There is a small gift shop and coffee shop with good hot chocolate.

The couple that run the Forget me not shelter really have a heart for animals. Their home is…read moreabsolutely overrun with beautiful furry buddies. Obviously Anchorage has a problem with irresponsible people adopting and dumping ferrets. Insert sad face here. These folks are extremely knowledgeable about ferrets and take it seriously. The contract they make you sign when you adopt is no joke. They also only adopted out spayed and neutered ferrets and they only adopt a them out in groups (so you have to adopt a minimum of 2). Ferrets are highly social and need companionship or they die of depression. I wish more people would adopt from this shelter, because ferrets are great pets and it's depressing to see all these precious critters confined to cages. Ferrets are super poopers, and it's got to be a real battle trying to clean up after 50 plus ferrets. The shelter is very.... ferret-y. God bless the Sims family for turning over their own to these little guys. We adopted a group of 3 elderly ferrets last fall and it was the best decision ever. Since they're old, they're super mellow. It's like owning furry Slinkies that like to lick you. If you like the personality of a dog, but like the cat-like convenience of a smaller animal that is litter-trained, consider adopting a couple ferrets from here. They're awesome apartment pets. They're not, however great pets if you have small kids because ferrets play nip, and they also can't tolerate being dropped. But they're great pets for older kids because they are fun to play with, can be trained to do tricks, and can even be leash trained. They also only live 5-10 years, so when your kid goes off to college, you won't be stuck taking care of them. As the Sims will tell you, like all animals, in their senior years, ferrets do develop health problems , so you need to be prepared for some end of life vet bills. But they're so fun! If you've been wanting a cool, fun, wacky pet, call for an appointment to meet some furry bandits.
