Never in my 45 years of having animals have I had such an experience with a clinic. I left because I refused to argue. They called me to say they videotaped me, and agreed I said I do not want to argue. They criticized me because they said I left "in a huff" and they wanted to sever the relationship. All of this because I was nine minutes late for an appointment. They did not serve me as a client and were respectful. The last visit we went in for was for they didn't know what even though they made the appointment and we ended up having a vaccine sooner than needed because they didn't know what to do with the appointment. This time they didn't also know what to do with the appointment or exactly what tests to run at the appointment time. Somebody who is in the know is not in charge. It must be frustrating not to know your job. read more

I have taken my pets for their healthcare at this clinic since 2005. I recently called this clinic to obtain a 2nd opinion on my senior dog's (12 year old) severe incontinent and bloody urine. Jordan booked me to see a new Dr. Natalie Drozdowski and I liked her profile on their website stating she specializes in senior pet care. When I arrived for my appointment we received exam from Dr Evans instead of Drozdowski. My pet's incontinence since this exam and administration of a 2nd round of antibiotics has not improved the severe incontinence. I walked into the clinic this morning requesting euthanasia and the clinic refused services. As the pet owner who is compassionate about my multiple pets' lives I know what is best for my pets. I am dissappointed in the refusal of services by Dr. Evans. I had to schedule euthanasia for my dog Luna elsewhere and plan to find another clinic for future services for my cats. read more

So my grandmother had a cat. So when she passed away I decided to bring her back to Arkansas. But before I could travel with her she needed the correct documentation to get through TSA. So I made an appointment with this vet and they had seen the cat before since my grandmother had been using them before. So I saved money since the cat already had her current shots. So after a checkup they got my paperwork ready to be able to bring her home. I had nothing but good luck with this veterinary. Was initially happy with the somewhat limited service I've had. But my dying pet was recently prescribed a medication that you can't get at regular pharmacies to help with the pain until we have to let go. But we weren't told this, because the doctor didn't know. There's one place in town that can make it, but because the doctor who prescribed it was out of town for a 4 day weekend, there wasn't one other doctor there who would re-write the prescription so we could get it at Bernie's. We were told we would have to wait for that one doctor to return to get the same prescription filled out at that location. I'm pretty sure I've spent at least $1,000+ at this vet to then be told that they issued a rare arse medication, and then told me to go around and find a place that sells it and that I'd have to wait because of a seeming error on their part, while my pet is in pain? I'm good fam. I'll look elsewhere for pet care. read more

Myself and my mom both bring our dogs here. I love the Paw Plan option ($50/month for yearly services). My dog, Jedi, had to have some teeth extracted and it helped significantly with the price! I was also nervous about him being under anesthesia, but the attention to my questions and concerns was appreciated. Update: I've since left, they lost a lot of experienced vets since the pandemic and still charge a premium price compared to other vet offices. Last year I had a senior dog and a cat that had separate complicated medical issues that were new to the vets I worked with and who seemed very inexperienced. I was doing a lot of my own research and making suggestions to the vets who would agree with me and then offer that treatment option but I have no training and I was concerned I could be making bad treatment suggestions without fully understanding any possible complications, nor should I be coming up with most of the treatment ideas, and I wasn't confident the vet was fully evaluating consequences of treatment suggestions. I went to a new clinic and those pet's issues were resolved very quickly and surprisingly inexpensively. read more

The reception area knows you and your pet by name and the doctors are fantastic. We see Dr. Lindquist primarily but have gotten to know most of the doctors through various visits. Received a response from the Alaska Veterinary Clinic. Though it was somewhat polite, it concentrated only on the positive, sidestepping the issues presented, and failed to address how the business will deal with those issues/improve. However, sidestepping will not help me or other clients "forget" the errs. Instead of dealing with the issues, the AVC representative only acknowledged the positives/compliments, only lightly apologize for my "confusion," and then tell me Alaska requires pets to receive the rabies vaccine by 4 months. I appreciate hearing how the technicians and vets try very hard to be up to date on information, etc; I really do. However, I'm also concerned as a client about if a business is listening, and if so, how they will address any errors / problems presented, particularly with customer care and HR/PR relations. She stated that "our receptionists are trained to aid the doctor in keeping accurate patient records and educating clients to local and state vaccine laws." Yes, but how does simply asking me why I have not yet had the rabies vaccine serve as "educating clients to local and state vaccine laws"? So, the receptionists' behaviors are considered acceptable to the business? I never noted any complaints about "keeping accurate patient records." My complaints were about receptionist etiquette and treatment of clients. Should you read any of her other responses to other Yelp reviews, while the responder is somewhat polite, the essential point is always missing. It's never about how to address any errors on the clinic's part; whether intended or not, it's comes off as just about "protecting" the clinic. Here's the client perspective that a strong business always keeps in mind: - I wasn't the one confused; the receptionists were. They lacked basic etiquette skills, from the phone call to the physical meeting. They don't know proper methods of dealing with clients. That's a business error. - That's something businesses should always strive to improve on, wherever possible. Any client would want to know that a business recognizes this as an issue and how they plan to adjust it. In my case (read others), there was 0 concern/response for how the phone call went, how the staff behaved, and most importantly, how those errors will be addressed. While her response may seem polite over a quick glance, by failing to acknowledge or address any of these issues, to a concerned customer/pet parent, it can really seem flippant and dismissive. --- OVERVIEW: From a business standpoint, a professional would ask, what's the point of that response? Isn't HR/PR supposed to be looking out for the business and client relations? All customers need mistakes addressed, not compliments rehashed. Perhaps there is a problem with training, and instead of being trained on just how to assist the vet, the staff could also be trained in basic manners/etiquette, perhaps a cotillion class. The business owner would probably agree. As a professional, while her responses are somewhat polite, we are always concerned with the bottom line, and this doesn't address the crux of the issue. And as for whether pets are required to have the rabies vaccine by 4 months, that's something the responder should take up with her vets and his technicians, whom were satisfied with allowing customers to wait until before the pet turned 1 year old. Simply asking me "why" she was not yet vaccinated is not a way for staff to educate. Essentially, in any business--and a hospital/vet clinic still runs on a business model--the customer should always be first. They need a new PR/social media model to follow. The current model centers around lightly saving face but is neither concerned with issues presented nor correcting those issues. At the core of a real HR/PR professional, your concern should be what is the problem, how can we fix it, and how can we become better as a business? In that way, the business betters itself, and it's a win for the business. When the clients are happy, the business is happy. Business and PR 101. As a professional, it's been difficult finding the level of professionalism you'd find in other industries in the animal world, but here's to hoping we'll eventually find one. It's been a year and a half so I think I can finally recount this horror. I switched to this clinic when I moved a block away and saw good reviews. My cat was nearly 18 years old and I'd been managing her chronic medical condition for 8 years. By this time she was well into hospice care and I received good support from the veterinarian and technician staff over her last few months. After managing her decline with pain meds and fluids and having many conversations about the appropriate time to stop, the day had come. I called and asked for an appointment and the receptionist non-challantly belted back across the line "So you need a euthanasia appointment?" Wow! Thanks for the compassion and sensitivity. When I went in, I asked if the appointment could be moved to the end of the day as I didn't want to be surrounded by the hustle and bustle in such a painful time. (I've worked as a vet tech for several years in several hospitals, and that is usually how these situations are handled.) I was again loudly denounced without a shred of sensitivity by the receptionist so I asked to speak with the veterinarian. By this point, it was all I could do to contain my tears. The veterinarian came out to the front desk and recommended "we" return when "we" are less upset - they could fit me in 4 days later. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I had been diligently nursing my cat and agonizing over this moment for many months, my best friend of 18 years was suffering enough that it was finally time to stop it, and they couldn't be bothered?! (Every place I've worked would've done anything to accommodate a patient in such a moment.) I was utterly aghast. And now I had to scramble to find somewhere else to go. I called my old clinic in Eagle River, Ravenwood, and they let me hurry in right before closing. The receptionist was kind and sweet and they treated the situation with the somber respect that it deserved. And they didn't rush or shame me when those tears finally fell and became sobs. What a wretched experience made infinitely worse by the people whose very purpose it is to reduce suffering in moments like those. And just last week, I had the exact opposite experience when my new kitty randomly got dreadfully sick and, despite our many efforts, could not be saved. I highly recommend College Village where they have excellent prices, excellent care, and excellent humanity. read more

About 3-4 years ago, the veterinary clinic I routinely went to suddenly closed, and I was sent a letter that stated all of my pet's medical records had been transferred to AVC and that my previous office recommended I continue my veterinary care at AVC. I went in a handful of times, but even back then it was a huge hassle and I couldn't figure out why this clinic seemed so highly recommended - not only by my previous vet, but also with the general public. At my previous (and current) vet, I could often get same day or next day service. At AVC, every time I needed an appointment they were booked full for several weeks. Each time I wet there I felt like the atmosphere was not welcoming or friendly. At one point there was a random unrestrained cat sitting alone in the lobby that attacked my leashed dog while we were waiting for our appointment! No one responded or seemed to care, and my 60 pound dog was totally spooked. I never found out who's cat that was or if the owner was even in the building. I also felt that every service was overcharged and/or very expensive. After just a few months I quickly switched to a different clinic in town and my pup and I are much happier. I've been at the new vet for several years and I'm very happy I switched. It's unfortunate to hear that after changing ownership, AVC may be even worse now than it was before. read more

We love this place--the staff is so friendly, and they remember you and your pet from your first visit. The doctors we've had are so good with our little ones. Last year, when our cat Yin-Yang got very, very sick, they did everything they could to help out. He saw Dr. Wooldridge first, who was the only vet I've ever seen who YY would let pet him. YY HATED vets. Later in YY's illness, we worked with Dr. Lindquist, and she was also excellent. They were both gentle, understanding, and very clear about what they were doing and why. When it turned out YY was in pain and not going to make it, they were so nice, and dealt with my sad blubbering very kindly. They made the process of putting him down as painless as possible, for all of us. So, it was a no-brainer that we would take our new little one, Mila (aka muffin-face) here for her first check-up. The desk staff remembered us and our sweet YY, and they were so excited to meet Mila. Such a great, positive atmosphere. We saw Lindquist again, and both she and the assistant were as helpful as ever. They showed us how to administer the medicine properly, have us tips, and got some Mila love (who apparently does NOT hate vets, thankfully). We are so glad that our girl is in good hands. They have taken good care of our family, and they'll do the same for yours. read more

I had an appointment for 1240 and was done and heading back home at 0120. Staff was great from the front desk to the assistant and the doctor. I took my cat in for worms and was told to bring in a stool sample for a test. When I got there and explained what kind of worm I had seen she said that she knew exactly what it was and wasn't going to waste my money ($55) on a fecal test. They did a wellness exam, clipped his nails and gave him a shot. They handled my cat very well. He was surprisingly calm and comfortable. I absolutely love this place and would recommend it to others. read more

The best Vet in town! Dr. Lindquist has been amazing to both our cats. She has answered all of our questions and helped us make hard, but needed decisions. She performed complex dental surgery on our cat and it healed beautifully. I would highly recommend her to any cat owner. read more

They are always extremely helpful and friendly on the phone and In person. I do not take my dog in very often, only when shots or due or before traveling, but they ladies at the front desk are always very personable, remember my pet by name and make me feel they are genuinely happy to see us and help. Forget about my earlier review about how great this place is.....It is now THE worst experience I have ever had in any place of business, let alone a place where I am taking my beloved animal to be healed! or at least treated with respect! The previous evening I had a phone conversation with Dr. John who said that I could come by and drop off my dog's urine sample and pick up some antibiotics, but that it would take a few days to get back the results, but to go ahead and start the antibiotics. Earlier in the year, Dr. John had felt that Gunner could possibly have kidney disease, he was also being treated for urinary incontinence...I was anxious to get the sample evaluated, as Gunner had stopped eating any dog food and would only eat some chicken and not much else. He was losing weight. Even his behavior was a bit off. I arrived with the sample, but thought before I went inside the office, I would get Gunner to add more to the sample, as it was scant. Well, he managed to kick it out of my hand as I was trying to collect it in the yard in front of the Vet's office. So, I went into the office and told the 'never before seen receptionist' that the sample had been spilled and I would like to pick up the antibiotics. She firmly stated that I could not have the antibiotics without a urine sample. I told her that I had spoken with the Dr. the evening before, and he told me that I could pick up the antibiotics. She repeated 'not without a urine sample'. I had already been into my second sleepless night, concerned for my dog and how to help him. This woman, representative of this once well respected vet clinic, never once showed a bit of concern, compassion, or interest in my distress over my dog's condition. I asked her to please give me the cup so I could collect another sample. Mind you, I was not smiling, I was not pleased, I used no profanity, I was abrupt and definitely upset that I would have to wait another day possibly to get meds for my dog, as his urine is scant and difficult for me to collect as he stops when I approach for his urine, a behavior that he did not have until this past week. I left the office without a goodbye. This morning, the day after this incident, I received a package in the mail of his charts and a letter stating that I was no longer welcome "at their facility due to my lack of concern for a proper diagnosis, care and treatment of my pet's condition, littering on the premises"...(WHAT? was Gunner's urinating on the grass where all the dogs go, littering????)......."along with the abruptly rude nature of your behavior..." and my account was terminated effective immediately. If anyone was rude, it was that incredible cold, non- compassionate, insensitive human being behind the counter. There are even more details to this story, but I am sure you get the point. read more

I found it easy to schedule an appointment and we were seen within 5 minutes of arrival. We saw Dr. Knudsen and he recommended a tooth extraction for Jack, which I'll be scheduling soon. I have two cats and a Labrador retriever, and Ak Vet Clinic staff and clinicians make what is a stressful experience my pets as comfortable and quick and easy as possible. I am a very picky, Type A personality and that carries over to my expectations about my pets' care. AVC has never failed to meet and exceed those expectations. They are flexible when scheduling, they always follow up to make sure any treatments they have provided are working, my pets are happier and healthier thanks to them. Alaska Veterinary Clinic has been my pets' vet for more than 30 years, and I've had many animals cared for by the wonderful staff. I have counted on them for everything from the excitement of a "New puppy" check-up to the incredibly painful moment when we have to escort a beloved furry friend across the rainbow bridge. At every turn, the staff of AVC has been professional, kind, and compassionate. My family relocated to the Valley about three years ago, and I transferred care of our two dogs to a clinic closer to home. After several frustrating, time-consuming, and impersonal interactions with the staff at the new clinic, I decided it was worth the drive to transfer their care back to AVC. The staff warmly welcomed us all back, and the new Dr. we met was just as kind and thoughtful as the others we have known over the years at AVC. It's so good to be back! read more

If you love your pet, don't bring them here!! The only thing that even earns them one star is that the vets and techs are fairly nice. As far as I can tell based on our experiences, they don't seem to care too much about people's pets and they certainly don't care at all about customer satisfaction! Their customer service is truly awful. My dog was having a medical emergency during their normal business hours. When I called to try to fit him in they put me on hold for 15 minutes. I drove there so I could talk to an actual human and they didn't even acknowledge me for another 10 minutes! There were two people behind the counter and only two customers so there was no reason for their lack of attention. When they finally asked me what I needed, they said they didn't want to see him because they would have to do tests and an exam, which was too much trouble. I have been a client of Dr. Wooldridge since the 1970's when he took care of my families pets as a child. He is a wonderful veterinarian and human being. After all these years, he still cares about every animal he lays his hands on. I have seen a couple other docs when he was not available and we have been treated with care and respect by all . The front desk staff are awesome and the techs are great. Their boarding facilities aren't perfect, but the staff is great and I know my dogs are well cared for when I need them. I tell everybody about how well my pets and I are cared for here. An excellent facility for the health and well being of your pets and your peace of mind. read more

We LOVE AVC and all their staff! They have been updating a few things as of recent (extended hours, etc) and have also hired some more people, etc. All my favorites are still there...Dr. Wooldridge, Annamaria, Ferretta, Nikola & Mitchell. I am really enjoying Dr. Hawn as well! I was referred to Dr. Wooldridge by a good friend over 10 yrs ago, was told he did the BEST ear cropping. He DOES do the BEST ear cropping, Roxie, my 1st Boxer received compliments from some of the Top Show Boxer breeders in the lower 48! We loved Dr. Wooldridge so much that we decided to use him as our Vet for Roxie. We used several vet clinics in Anchorage and this is by far our FAVORITE! After spending a small fortune at another local clinic on our beloved cat Abby, we decided to take her to AVC for a 2nd opinion. The price difference in tests/X-rays were incredible. We were getting ripped off at our old vet clinic! After consulting with Dr. W, we knew it was best to end her suffering since her quality of life would only go downhill as nothing could be done. I've always wondered if we took her to AVC earlier if he could have found the real problem with Abby much sooner. (Abby's old vet let the issue go for at least a year or 2, saying she was constipated instead of finding out why, just kept giving us Laxatuna...gee, turned out she had a huge cancer mass in the abdomen blocking her ability to poop regular. ) Anyways, when it was time to put Abby to sleep, Dr. Wooldridge was WONDERFUL & compassionate, I got to hold her in my own loving arms while she went peacefully to sleep. I was so thankful to hold her so she wasn't afraid. With my Boxer Roxie, Dr. W. gave everything he could, every chance, everything before we agreed it was time for Roxie to go, Roxie's favorite Vet Tech Nikola held her with me and cried along with me as she went peacefully to sleep. Hands down the hardest moment in my life so far but I was thankful I had the support & compassion of all at AVC. Roxie enjoyed boarding at AVC, the staff took GREAT care of her and made sure she felt right at home! Our new Boxer Lucy loves going to AVC too, they take great care of her when we are out of town and they give the BEST baths, she always comes home smelling so good! read more
