I've been coming here since 2009. And I won't stop. The entire staff is fantastic. Dr. Wolcott is particularly friendly and knowledgeable which is what keeps me coming back. Somehow he actually makes a dental visit fun. I highly recommend this practice. Dr. Wolcott and the other Dentists, Hygienists, Dental Assistants, and even the front desk staff are all really helpful. When I have to occasionally call with a question (scheduling, billing, whatever) whomever I speak with is extremely accommodating. Dr. Alcott was very profession in his dental work on me. His assistant gently laid her hand on my arm during the very difficult procedure. I found this incredibly comforting. Dr.Wilcott gave me his personal cel number to call him anytime to let him know if I was having any recovery problems. He called me the next morning to check on me and make sure I was doing well. I have never had any doctor call me to check up on me after a procedure. This was great!! He also shows a sense of humor, which is not common among medical people !! read more

Dr. Wolcott and Hillandale Smiles gave me a smile I love. I have a tooth missing in the front of my mouth (never had an adult tooth there). I was having bad experiences with my previous dentist, so I went to Dr. Wolcott for a second opinion. My previous dentist put in an implant that failed, followed by a bridge that failed. When I came to Dr. Wolcott, he gave me an option I hadn't even heard of from any other dentists. He is creative, skilled, and experienced when it comes to dental solutions. He made sure I understood the treatment he was suggesting and gave me all the details I needed to make a decision. In addition to the great dental work, Dr. Wolcott and his staff did a lot of back and forth with my insurance company to explain why he was recommending the treatment plan and why it was the best option. In the end, my insurance was able to cover part of the procedure. My new bridge and veneers look great. I am very happy with my smile and would recommend Dr. Wolcott and Hillandale Smiles to anyone. read more

DR. WOLCOTT THREATENED TO HAVE MY CHILDREN TAKEN FROM ME!!! After many years (approximately 13-14 years) of going to this office and more recently being on the fence about whether to continue being seen by Dr. Wolcott (due to other mishaps, e.g., communicating dental needs and concerns yet not getting a response from you or your office, among other issues) yesterday was the final straw! It's interesting that the Yelp sight prefaces the "review a business option" with "Many businesses are doing their best during COVID. Please take this into consideration if things didn't go as planned." My actual dental cleaning on 2/25/2021 went very well (thank you Michelle), but my follow up with Dr. Wolcott absolutely did not! Wolcott never even discussed what was currently on the table (my X-rays , current dental health issues, as that's typically what's done in their office) but instead proceeded to tell me how he'd been trying to contact me for the past three days (turns out it was only one day according to my voicemail messages and call history, checked while in office, as I honestly thought the call which was after their office hours, was merely my appointment reminder.) . I also found this rather odd considering that my husband was literally just at the office on Tuesday with my children, but when I asked him if he had relayed any of the info he was trying to tell me at that time, to my husband, his response was no. Not sure why. He then mentioned how my children (teenagers who had just gone in for dental cleanings 2/23/2021 with their father, after not going in for some time due to our fear of COVID) had not been in for cleanings for some time, stating that their cavities were sizable now. He also threatened me saying that if my children's cavities were not taken care of (presumably by his office) he would contact the proper authorities, have them removed from my care, and have them sent to an appropriate place so that they can receive said care! I am a mom who takes good care of her children! A mom, who works tirelessly! A mom who, prior to COVID, had been bringing her children in regularly and quite often, sticking with scheduled cleanings (unless rescheduling was necessary)! A mom who in 2020 became severely terrified of COVID and it's potential effects on my children and myself (all who suffer with a condition that could likely be a risk factor for COVID.) A mom who lost three grown up relatives in 2020, due to other health issues, that although were not COVID related were nonetheless stressful while dealing with the terrifying factor of COVID. Who does this knowing that we are all trying to heal and ease back into what our norm used to be prior to COVID???!!! Despite his offices only being shut down for two months due to COVID, not everyone was ready to go running into doctors' offices considering the death toll numbers that kept rising, the numbers that seemed to stall, slightly dip, then rise again!!! This has been a very frightening rollercoaster ride!!!! As Yelp stated,"Many businesses are doing their best during COVID.....but are they really, when some of them (in this case, Dr. Wolcott) don't even try to acknowledge that some people in general (and families) are doing their best? It still was not an easy decision for me to send my kids in on Tuesday, or for me to go in yesterday. But I literally managed to start feeling just a little bit more comfortable with the idea of taking my kids in and going in to the dentist myself after having been mortified by the idea of COVID and having to take off our mask in the dental office with our compromised immune systems. Due to various reasons: more people receiving vaccinations, lower COVID cases, and Hillandale Smiles emphasizing their COVID 19 office protocols, we dared to go in to finally receive the care we had been hoping to receive. Only to be treated the way in which I was treated. One thing I will never do is neglect my children the way that Dr. Wolcott neglected to have some tact, diplomacy, compassion, and an actual conversation before deciding to threaten to have my kids taken away from me. Really good dental care! My husband and I have been patients there for about 10 years! Back then my gums were in bad shape, and through careful and consistent cleaning and care, starting with scaling, Michelle, who has been my hygienist since day 1, has got them very healthy again. I was also a very nervous patient, and have managed to relax a bit (it's still the dentist!) as I know her process and I trust her completely. I would not go to anyone else! On another note, my husband went to see Dr Wolcott (aside from the regular dental care he gets there) for a "Silent Nite" retainer to alleviate snoring. I did my research and knew it was pricey but this was the last resort as I could not sleep through his snoring. Dr Wolcott took him through the process, and was very confident it would absolutely work. And it does! My once loudly snoring husband can now sleep flat on his back again and does not snore (I am a light sleeper and could hear him through my earplugs!). If you have a snoring issue, this is a fantastic option, and it only took 2 appointments (impressions and then fitting). We could not be happier. Lastly, about the bad reviews on Yelp. Satisfied customers are 7 times less likely to review, as opposed to people who review to complain. So I always take the reviews with a grain of salt, and judge the actual care. They provide great dental care. I know of many people who go to them and see not only Dr. Wolcott, but also the other dentists, such as Dr. Poupard (who is also great, very gentle and speaks French). Whenever we had bigger "issues" we were always provided with a quote before hand, and thorough explanations of treatments. No one I know likes going to the dentist, or spending money on dental work, but I just went today for my cleaning, and Dr. Wolcott did my exam right after it and told me that "everything looked great, no treatment needed". My gums and teeth are healthy, and that's all that matters. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Wolcott for a short period of time and I find him to be very efficient and patient-centered. On my first visit, I took my treatment plan from my previous dentist to Dr. Wolcott and he went down the list, crossed off a bunch of procedures he deemed unnecessary, explained in detail what was necessary and what wasn't. In the end Dr. Wolcott came up with a plan that costs a lot less and has been producing superior cost-saving results so far. I would highly recommend Dr. Wolcott for his ability to listen to his patient, present a list of treatment options and deliver outstanding results. I've been going to this office for over a year. I find it interesting to read the reviews after my appointment today. I went in to have 2 cavities filled and while my teeth were in the dental dam Dr. Wolcott said that he saw another filling that should be replaced, and since I'd already been shot up with Novocaine and was, well, at the dentist, I should go ahead and get it replaced. Being in a great state of discomfort and dreading the thought of having to come back at some point and get it fixed, I agreed. It only ended up costing me an extra $21 on what they had already quoted me. He said the filling was not bad but that another cavity had crept its way in. The DH who cleaned my teeth was quite pleasant the week before, but every time I go in they recommend I get my teeth cleaned every 3 months, something my insurance won't cover, so I don't do that. It's easy to get appointments when I need, and I haven't had any really negative experiences. I'd say they get the job done. Dr. Wolcott was very easy to talk to and he was good at explaining everything to me. One thing I did not like about this visit was the way in which he spoke to the dental assistant, whom I assume he was training, or had just graduated from dental school. I guess she forgot to do a couple things and he would say, "what should you be doing right now that you're not doing?" All the while I am sitting there uncomfortable as hell with my mouth wide open thinking, "now is not the time for fucking lessons, finish up so i can close my mouth." Like others in here, I went in for some work and it was $50 more than they had told me just a few days before, though I'm not actually sure HOW that happened since I was careful to get the exact price. My bigger complaint is that, despite handing them my insurance card and correcting them each time, they continued to charge the wrong insurance. This led to a year-long battle; we ended up "splitting the bill" despite them being in the wrong for trying to charge the wrong insurance and not correcting it, ever. Basically, the staff is friendly but apparently incapable of entering incorrect insurance information, as it happened again. I will not be returning to this dentist. Oh, almost forgot to mention, Dr. Wolcott made a creepy comment to me about how my eyes matched my shirt, then joked about how I probably wasn't expecting that kind of attention from my dentist... no, not so much, and would prefer NOT to get those comments while sitting in the dentist chair. read more

I went there for an emergency for a infected gum. They did x-rays and stuck needles all around my gums counting my teeth. They told me I had seven teeth that needed to be pulled or they could do root canal's and fill the teeth. I only wanted to have that one tooth pulled or given a prescription for antibiotics for the infection. I left there with neither and my mouth still swollen and sore from the infection I had. A big waste of time with zero satisfaction. I used Medicaid, so I guess that made a big difference. read more

He helps me understand preventative care and encourages me to take steps ahead of time, rather than waiting for the bad thing to happen. Even the first time I met her I never liked her. Back in Sept I told her I didn't want to do xrays because I was suspecting I was pregnant.. this time I went in and i told her that I didn't want to do xrays again her reaction was " well last time you thought you were pregnant and you weren't... so is this for real this time? or no?" WHAT? Also.. she told me that I need to get my teeth cleaned every 3 months while I"m pregnant .. last time I was pregnant I did it every 6 months and she goes.. "well that's why you needed a really big deep clean because it was bad"... uhhhh I literally almost just punched her in the face and walked out... anyways! I have to get a cavity filled.. anyone get a filling while they were pregnant? Also is this 3 month cleaning rule real? because I have never heard of it before.. I am so impressed with the way Dr. Wolcott and Dr Centty handled my recent emergency visit. I came in with a severely infected bottom front tooth. Michelle took ex-rays and brought in Dr. Centty. Dr. Centty determined that the tooth could not be saved after having had 2 root canals on said tooth. Dr. Wolcott extracted the tooth, cleaned out the severe infection and did a bone graft -- best part about it was NO PAIN!!! I was worried about the pain factor in that my gums were very infected and sore. To my surprise there was no pain and I left the office with everything done on the SAME DAY!!! Amazing!!!!! I have never been anything both totally pleased with the dentistry at Hillandale Smiles. read more

Horrible. I brought my two daughters for a regular cleaning. Both went in and then the dental hygienist came out in the waiting room to tell me that my younger daughter had seven cavities. She didn't introduce herself. She didn't try to have a private conversation. She walked right up to be and launched into telling me, in a dismissive tone, that my daughter's teeth were "horribly dirty with food everywhere" . Shaking her head, she walked away. When I asked the desk staff questions - who was she? I found out she was a dental hygienist and when I asked to speak to a dentist, I was told, 'They are too busy.' I took my daughter for a second and third opinion and both those doctors determined that my daughter had three stained teeth from the sealant (common) and that a visit would be required to determine to brush away the sealant to determine if there were cavities under the sealant. I chose one of those doctors and a visit did determine that there were the very beginnings of cavities under the sealant and best to be cautious and fill them. This was our third visit to this practice and while i had never been thrilled with the office staff or the overall tone of the office, I figured the dentist was at least a solid dentist. I am still angry about the way I was treated (no dentist consult, reporting seven cavities while sitting in a waiting room of people) and even more angry to find out my daughter didn't have seven cavities! read more

My first visit here was a little sloppy. I got a hygienist that was either new or a temp worker, so by the time she was told what to do and the office coordinated the cleaning and x-rays, it cut my cleaning short. No big deal on that issue though. The dentist himself was awful. It was clear from the start that this was a practice that focuses on their insurance reimbursables rather than the patients. Of the many things that lead me to this belief, the two most offensive are that he told me I had two cavities (I don't) and his insistence that I had worn through 75% of my enamel and that I needed to buy his expensive mouth guard. First of all, I've never had a cavity. Ever. And after seeing him, I did my next cleaning through another dentist, who told me my teeth looked great. It's quite strange that somebody who has never had a cavity, suddenly gets diagnosed with two, then six months later another dentist says my teeth look great. As far as the mouth guard: I do believe in mouth guards, but this seemed like a hard sale. Again, I brought up the enamel claim with my next dentist, and in short, he seemed to say that it was a bogus claim. I appreciate prevention help greatly, but I sensed a scare tactic here. When I asked about other mouth guards on the market that were cheaper options, he dismissed them without substantiating his claim. In general, the dentist seemed to be quick and inattentive, and slightly annoyed by my follow up questions after claiming I had cavities and worn enamel. It seems to me that he's going with the volume business plan, rather than service business plan. read more

I have heard great things about this Dentist from family who have come here and I actually was a patient here when I was a kid. Sadly the process to actually see the dentist was very unpleasant. I was actually looking forward to seeing the Dentist here. I arrived 20 min early and filled out necessary paperwork. I also agreed to sign up for a $200 membership for cleanings, discounts ect. As I was waiting, one the of the staff was explaining to a "patient" the pricing for what he needed to be done (in the waiting area). The patient explained that he couldn't pay for it then and left. After leaving I could see and hear the staff person laughing at/about this patient as if him not being able to afford it was laughable I guess. Moving on to my experience. I was seen by another staff to review what problems I was having and to take an x-ray of the problem area. I made the mistake of saying how I couldn't afford dentist work last year. She commented asking if my mom was going to help me pay. I would not have come if I didn't have money to pay today! She told me she would get the dentist and then came back to explain they wanted to get full X-rays. I told her they were in my email and I could have them sent. She gave me an email to send it to and I did. I waited for another 40 minutes as she said they were "checking other people in". I went to see what was going on and the staff were talking among themselves. Being on a tight schedule with a baby sitter at home with my children i do not have time to waist and that is what I did at this place. Doctor Wolcott never came to greet me or give a status or anything! Very disappointing experience. Waste of time and gas. I came here for an "emergency" and had to leave without anything resolved or without even seeing a dentist almost 2 hrs later. I would've preferred to go somewhere closer to where I lived to save time. Save your time and money (or whatever insurance you have) and go somewhere a little more friendly and caring towards the patient. I will gladly send them money for the one X-ray that was taken but for nothing else. They quoted me an exam price for emergency as well as membership fee that I would've gladly paid for if the services were rendered. Recommendations: - friendly staff and office manager. I understand this is a business but patient treatment/care is important - talk to patients about finances and payments more privately - wait time explained - courteous of the patients time (I arrived early for an emergency and was not seen by a dentist for over an hour with no explanation read more

Went to see Dr, Wolcott to get a routine cleaning and he was wonderful! Not only was he friendly, but he continuously checked to make sure that I was comfortable which is very important to me. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions about the right products to use for my sensitive teeth. I never once felt uncomfortable or unsure of his capabilities as a dentist. it was very easy to get an appointment and I will definitely be going back in a few months when I am due again! read more

I'm updating my 1 star review since the owner took the time to write me a thoughtful response to my original review. I don't live in the area so haven't been back since but dr Wolcott wrote to assure me their policies have changed since my last visit and I'd like to take him at his word. I did end up slowly spending thousands here over less than a year while getting an implant /screw done after a tooth was pulled. My husband and I still feel really taken advantage of by the place from our experience in 2008. My main frustration was being told I definitely would not need a bone graft upon examination of my mouth and then mid- procedure a couple months after being told matter of dactyl that I would need it while I was unable to speak clearly or discuss the options. Trusting that their new policies would prevent such occurrences from happening, I'm updating my review to 3 stars instead of the original one star. It's hard for me to increase it beating that because we lost so much money into the procedure (I think more than $2000 or even $3000) and I haven't personally been able to try out the practice again due to changing dental plans. Original review: Maybe they do decent work, but it seems to be more geared toward the cosmetic than practical denistry. My colleague who recommended the place warned that they try to milk you for more procedures (and more money) each time, and I definitely had that experience. These guys had me open mouth mid-procedure with a dental dam so I could barely speak ,and then recommend that I opt for X or Y additional step (bone graft) during this procedure, (without mentioning that this 5 or 10 minute step they want to do will cost me $500 out of pocket). I don't necessarily think they do bad work, but just be careful because these folks will find a way to suck your wallet dry. After coming back several times, I ended up spending thousands of dollars in treatments/procedures for an implant tooth, and now that main tooth they worked on looks really weird and the gums around it are concave despite me going along with their expensive bone graft. I was warned about it from the person who referred me, so I guess I should have been more careful. Also, they make you watch really awful/cheesey commercial videos about the benefits of cosmetic dentistry, with chimps brushing their teeth and flossing. read more

After looking at all the one star reviews for Dr Willcott ,Dr. Centy and his staff I feel like I'm I am living in an alternate universe. I have had nothing but excellent dental care for the past 30 years as have my three daughters. 0ne of them plans on bringing in her twins just as soon as they get enough teeth! Our family has had many many issues come up over the years all which have been dealt with professionally , with urgency as needed and with courtesy and compassion . When my oldest daughter was in her early 20s she was able to reverse some very serious gum disease with the skill, guidance and outstanding care of dental hygienist Michele . It is been my experience that Dr Willcott is very sensitive to patients that are in pain and does everything he can to address the cause and find a solution as quickly as possible. He is accessible even when overbooked. Last week he invited me to come in to be seen during his lunch break. Lastly, This might seem silly but I have never been able to finish one single magazine article before I am called in for my appointment. My only hope is to get there very very early so I can relax and get caught up with the latest news. read more

Every time I got statement in the mail, I went to their office, paid what they asked for, and checked with them if I am set. First of all my dental phobia is an understatement. About two years ago I went to Dental Health Associates for a cleaning. Dr. Wilcot was very respectful and personable. I'm extremely thankful I found this wonderful practice, unfortunately I made a complaint:/(which was TOTALLY unnecessary ) Dr. Wilcot did an excellent job on my crown that needed to be replaced, he provided me all the information I needed as far as crowns go (never knew someone could have a porcelain crown) you can tell he enjoys his work and is able to ensure you're in good hands. I moved to Montgomery village and have been to two dentists that I don't seem to enjoy. I'm willing to commute for better service but now I'm a little worried the staff will find me difficult, since I think I left a bad taste in their mouth (fingers crossed). read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. There are many issues with this practice. Recently my mother went in to have two fillings done. Dr. Wolcott gave her an anesthetic/numbing injection to ease discomfort. However, shortly after my mom began to experience shortness of breath and told the Dr. instead of showing kindness and reassurance he was rude and abrasive. After that he did not want to work on my mother and decided that my mother should be seen by the other Dentist. After waiting an hour of waiting for the other Dentist my mother decided to leave. I have never seen my mother this upset, she is not afraid of dentists but when I saw her she was in tears. My entire family goes to this dental practice and we have been debating whether to find a new dentist. The billing department never seems to get the pricing right. They give us one price but after the completion of dental work they raise the price. My family and I will not be returning. read more

I usually only review restaurants but I couldn't pass up reviewing Dr Wolcott and his amazing associates and staff. I've had the chance to interact with ALL the dentists at Hillandale Smiles, Drs. Wolcott, Centty, Poupard, Velamakanni and they are literally the best group of dental professionals you will ever meet. VERY professional but fun-loving at the same time. Not only are the dentists great, the hygienists Michelle and Amanda are super friendly, lively, HONEST and down to Earth. I had my cleaning done by Michelle and it was the best cleaning I have had in my life. It is truly a dental home. Every person I have encountered in the office was friendly, helpful and caring. Everyone takes their time with you and really get to know you, remembering small details about a family vacation discussed at the last visit 6 months ago or a special occasion celebrated. This is what makes you love going to the dentist! It's not just about having a cleaning done (...by the best hygienists) or a filling done (...by the best dentist), it's the positive atmosphere you feel every time you walk into the office. They explain in detail everything being done, what needs to be done, the rate and estimate amount insurance covers. Obviously, insurance coverage is a contract between the patient and the insurance company so it is the patient's responsibility to know their own coverage but the front office helps as best as they can. It is a peaceful atmosphere where ALL the employees work together. Also VERY Clean! Something I always look for when going to any medical office. I had to extract my wisdom tooth. Dr. Walcott did great job. No pain at all. I went with my wife as we got appointment for her to get her teeth cleaning. We finished without any waiting. Apart from that Dr. Walcott called latter on the same day around 6:00pm and asked me how I was feeling. I believe it's great for a Doctor to give attention for his customers. I am extremely pleased with the services I received in Dr. Wolcott's office. I am a conscientious individual and I know that I am not easily satisfied. Although, prior reviews offered low ratings, I noticed that the complaints were rather superficial as they were upset about requiring more procedures, while still reporting that Dr. Wolcott did good work. I was intentional about finding a dentist that was thorough and could offer me the best care. I sent Dr. Wolcott an email on a Saturday, inquiring about my insurance coverage and dental work. He responded to my message immediately on the following business day. His front office staff is courteous and the ease to schedule an appointment is exceptional. I called at 8:00 a.m., Monday morning and was seated in Dr. Poupard-Toner's chair by 9:30 a.m. Dr. Poupard-Toner is a highly skilled dentist. She was able to complete my complicated case expeditiously, while patiently explaining the procedure to me. I was informed about my care and one could not help but notice Dr. Poupard-Toner's sweet and kind nature. I did not experience any discomfort, even though I had several cavities. Dr. Poupard-Toner's dental assistant, Jose, was also very kind, professional and hard working. He worked very well under Dr. Poupard-Toner's supervision and I never felt uncomfortable about their interactions. I also met Dr. Wolcott, who is both visible and accessible in his practice. These folks do really good work but they'll lead you to believe you need a little something extra without EVER saying a word about cost. Many customers feel this place is extreme when it comes to getting folks to spend a ton of money for stuff you probably don't need. These guys will have you laid up with a dental dam in your mouth so you can barely speak,and then suggest casually that they recommend you go for this or that additional procedure during your visit and never mention that the thing they're about to do will cost you $700 out of pocket. They got me for an inlay and told me about the cost as I was making a follow up appointment. My special needs son lots of time and gentle reassurance as they work as a team to clean his teeth. The office staff actually helps with our dental insurance questions. Excellent dentist. But, I agree with previous post regarding high cost recommendations. In the middle of an onlay procedure, which was already much more expensive than a regular filling, I was referred to the in-house prosthadontist who gave me a $25,000 plan to rebuild my bite. Get this, the prosthodontist won't take insurance. I'm 61 years old and been dealing with this for my lifetime. Pretty high pressure. You must say no to unreasonably expensive suggestions. I have been 2 months without the onlay being completed. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Wolcott and was very unhappy with the partial did not last for the term of five years. He is geared towards cosmetic than practical dentistry. I have been going to the Dentists at Dr. Alan Wolcott's offices (now Hillandale Smiles) for 20 plus years now and have only the best to say about the entire office team, the facility, and the service. The office staff is friendly and efficient, and they always greet me by name when I come in which makes me feel like a valued patient. I have a particular problem with plaque, and my hygienist Amanda is amazing. My teeth always need a deep cleaning, and she is able to get my teeth sparkling clean and free of plaque without any extraordinary measures and with no discomfort at all. In fact, the time I spend in her dentist chair for cleanings is actually pleasant and pain free. I schedule my visits every three months to avoid plaque buildup and while I still seem to accumulate a substantial amount, the plan that the team there has worked out for me has served me extremely well over the years as I have been almost cavity free. When I've had a chip or needed some surface repair, the Dentists there have presented me with treatment plans before any work is done, and Dr. Wolcott has worked veritable magic in making my teeth like new again without any discomfort and difficulty. I always feel like my whole mouth is carefully examined and that I'm in good hands as far as my overall dental health is concerned. My hat is off to the entire team of Dentists and Hygienists at Hillandale. If you're looking for a great Dentist that values each and every patient and evaluates and treats everyone completely, I would highly recommend this group. read more
