Unprofessional & Intimidating ER Experience with Nursing Supervisor Rita…read more Took my 85-year-old mother to the ER on February 3, 2026, for severe abdominal pain (ileus) and back pain (T11 compression fracture on CT). Medical workup was adequate. Nursing care was disgraceful. Two different staff members told us the vacuum/suction machine could help with both urine and stool under bed rest. When my mother--in extreme pain (8-9/10), urgency, and distress--couldn't use the bedpan, they suddenly said only bedpan allowed and completely ignored her suffering and cardiac history. I questioned the flip-flop. Nursing Supervisor Rita called four security guards on me, demanded I delete the recording or leave. After security left and we were moved, she sarcastically asked a second time if I was going to record her again. This was dismissive, intimidating, and completely unprofessional. Hospitals need to be held accountable when supervisors treat vulnerable elderly patients and their advocates this way. Posting publicly so others know what they're walking into.

I expected the doctor to call me back at the end of the day or perhaps the next day, as doctors usually do with an abnormal test. Instead, the receptionist snapped "WHAT questions??" and then stated that I would need to make another appointment and pay again in order to get to speak with the doctor at all. I was stunned to have someone in healthcare snap at me unprovoked. The verbal cruelty was disturbing and left me feeling vulnerable on top of worrying about my health and prognosis. When I finally heard from the doctor (via email) she was presumptuous, wrote condescending notes about how non-dirty and non-loose I am, and told me that patients only "hear" what they want to hear, which is why she doesn't talk to patients over the phone. (!) At this point I hadn't even yet told her what my actual concerns were. I had questions based on my medical history of autoimmune disease, as well as questions about how this might affect my partner and what precautions I should take. I also didn't fully understand how the infection gets transmitted as I tested negative in the past with the same partner. I was bizarrely mistreated and condescended to. I've never had this level of disrespect happen at a doctor's office before. The doctor finally did call and immediately started talking about social stigma (again, not a concern to me at all... Should it have been??), made more assumptions, didn't listen, interrupted, and answered questions I didn't ask. The doctor billed the 15 min conversation as a virtual office visit. She waived the copay since I sounded upset, which was nice... The conversation should have lasted about 3 minutes if she simply answered my questions. Of all specialists, why would a gynecologist coddle their patients and treat them as though they are immature and irrational?

They don't even know which insurance plans they accept--every one of our claims was incorrectly filed as out-of-network when they were actually in-network. Fixing this has been a major hassle, and despite multiple messages asking for the billing manager to call us back, no one has returned our calls. Instead, we were told that the doctor's wife handles billing, but no one knows when she comes in. We are now receiving final bill notices, yet the office has locked us out of the patient portal due to non-payment, making it impossible to access our records or communicate through that system. When my wife asked how she could reach her doctor or someone who could help, she was told to use the portal--the very one we had been locked out of. All we are trying to do is get them to resubmit these claims correctly as in-network so we can pay the bill and move on. That's it. And yet, we're met with roadblock after roadblock. To top it off, they advertise themselves as a concierge practice, which is laughable. Concierge medicine is supposed to provide premium care, personalized attention, and easy access to the physician and staff. Here, they don't even answer the phone over lunch. Why not stagger lunch breaks like any other service-oriented business instead of shutting down entirely? The final straw was when my wife--who is battling stage 4 cancer--called for the third time to resolve this, only to be scolded for trying to fix a 2024 billing issue in 2025. Unfortunately, we had more pressing matters last year. We're done. As soon as this gets resolved, we'll be finding a new doctor. If you're considering this practice, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

My husband Jeffrey had THE WORST experience with Dr. Lichtenstein and his office that we've EVER…read morehad with any medical facility!! He was having gastrointestinal problems and had been to the emergency room twice. Both times they took tests, and determined that there was some sort of blockage in his stomach, causing pain and prohibiting him from eating normally. He ate just a little bit and felt full, only to throw up and have severe stomach cramping shortly after. Jeff had put off going to the doctor because he didn't want to miss work, or be told that he would need to be off for an extended period of time. Yet his symptoms got so bad that he had no choice. Jeff saw our primary care physician in June, who advised that he needed a specialist, and referred him to Dr. Lichtenstein. At first, Dr. L. was fine, assessing the symptoms and scheduling a series of tests for which hubby would have to return to the hospital or office, a few times. Jeff asked about his job, since he drives for a living over the road, and wasn't sure he would be able to work. He had been off for several days prior to this office visit. The doctor agreed that he should not return to work yet and wrote him a note. When Jeff called his job, at first they said to just bring the doctor's note once he returned. The tests were spread out over several weeks, and because his job is unionized, they needed him to fill out the paperwork for short term disability after the 5th day to cover his position and also enable him to receive the very minimal yet guaranteed disability pay. This is where the problems began. He called the doctor's office and then took the paperwork up there, and Dr. L. filled out the paperwork stating that Jeff was at the time under his care, should not return to work, yet was not "disabled." Jeff's union rejected this, since they needed justification for why he was off work for so long. After speaking to his union regarding the paperwork, he called the doctor's assistant and explained the situation, and she said she would have to have the doctor call. When Dr. L. returned the call, he told Jeff he could not state that he was disabled. Jeff told him he didn't want him to say that, but he needed the doctor to confirm that Jeff was currently under his care, being treated for his symptoms. Dr. L. seemed hesitant to even do this, and Jeff had to explain that his job would be in jeopardy without this! Dr. L. finally agreed that he could do this, but he still didn't have any sort of diagnosis, and he didn't seem too interested in getting to the bottom of the problems. Also, after every test, there was NO follow-up from the doctor or his office. Jeff kept going to the tests and looking at the results in North Shore Connect, yet didn't really understand the results since they were written in medical terms. He was sure the doctor would be calling with a diagnosis, next steps, or further instructions. After not hearing ANYTHING from Dr. L. or his office for a week after the last test, Jeff called. Dr. L. asked Jeff what he had been doing, and Jeff told him he was waiting for some sort of direction from him. He seemed surprised and even a bit taken aback when Jeff told him he had never experienced a doctor who didn't follow-up with his patient and coordinate his care. Yet this is the truth. Dr. L. ended up revising the paperwork but also releasing Jeff from medical leave, without ever determining what was wrong or offering any additional follow-up. He was still having issues! Jeff had really terrible pains, inability to get comfortable or sleep, still trouble eating normally, etc., It was terrible! And yet this doctor offered no professional advice, no referral to another specialist, medication, further testing, NOTHING. It's as if he just gave up, and truly didn't care. Jeff's other doctor had tried to assist by taking him off of some other medication he was taking in order to see if maybe that was masking the problems. She asked Jeff more than once what Dr. L. had found, or what the next steps were, and Jeff had to tell her he didn't know, or nothing. Even though gastroenterology is not her field (she's an endocrinologist), she knew that Jeff was still not well, and SHE had no problems filling out the paperwork for his job, after Dr. L. washed his hands and released him back to work, with no resolution! Unbelievable. She recommended that Jeff seek out another gastro doctor, which he did, by getting another referral from our primary care physician. That appointment was hard to get and is not for another few weeks (it's now September), yet she is well aware of Jeff's medical issues and has been working with him to protect his job while he gets all of this sorted out. It's just amazing the difference in the level of care, communication, and concern that he has experienced. We were very surprised and disappointed. Due to this we would never, ever recommend Dr. L. to anyone we know. He is a highly paid, uncompassionate, JERK.

Last week I decided to look on Yelp to see who yelpers recommended and filled out the contact info for Dr. Miller. Dr. Miller's office is conveniently located right of the highway and right next to Old Orchard mall for those who love to shop (a little too cold for an outdoor mall today IMO). There is plenty of parking out front and he's located on the 3rd floor. He was right on time for my appointment and appears to be a one man show right now since he's on the hunt for a new receptionist. Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be slowing him down. He took care of my foot issue (turned out to be a deep callous) and I wondered what took me so long to make the appointment. While i was there he also worked on a few other callouses, since he said he'd throw them in for free :). I also inquired about custom orthotics for my flat feet. He showed me some options and said he would check with my insurance to see how much they would cover. I plan to call back in a week and go down the orthotics route with him soon too. I asked what the #1 foot issue people come to him for and he mentioned an ingrown toe nail. My son had one recently that got better on his own, but glad we have someone to turn to if we run into a similar problem. He's good at what he does, very nice and fast.
