We were headed home from the recent Yelp Elite event and the PATH train was about to stop running for the evening. I figured we would jump in a cab as it's just a short trip to Manhattan. As we drove for a block I realized there was no meter running. There was actually no meter in the cab at all. I asked the cabbie how much it would be to get back to the city and he said $45 plus tip and toll! That, and it was cash only! WTF???? We jumped out immediately. I waved down a few more cabs and it was the same story. What a complete ripoff. How can they not use meters and not accept credit cards in this day and age? Especially since all the NYC yellow cabs take them. We ended up running for the PATH train and just made the last ride back to NYC. Much better deal to ride for a few dollars than get ripped off by the cabs here.
