Al Volo is really great because the name is A LOT of fun to say. I like how you can get really breathy and sensual with it. That's a definite plus. Add to that the fact that the pizza from this joint is bloody nice and you've got a really winning combination. They do their pizza in wood fire ovens, which is always a great idea. I love that delicious smokey flavour that you get with wood fire pizza. And the bases are always nice and crispy with a few scrumptious little burned bits. I get the plain cheese because I'm boring and habitual, but they have a wide variety of toppings and flavours on offer. Four stars.

When looking around for somewhere to eat near the top of Mt Eden Road, we stumbled upon this little pizza place and decided to give it a try. And I'm so glad that we did. We were greeted with a friendly Italian welcome as soon as we entered the door, and were shown to our table. The interior is not the fanciest, with small tables and plastic chairs, but they are red which is consistent with the Italian theme I guess. The pizzas here are made from scratch, and the kitchen is so close that you can see most of what's going on behind the scenes, which is pretty cool. The food doesn't take long to make and the end result is a quality Italian pizza made by Italians the traditional way. It can seem a little pricey for one pizza, but definitely worth it.

Al Volo uses the best cheese in Auckland in my opinion - from Il Casaro and decent salami and a tastier tomato sauce too. If you want authentic Italian Pizza I think you get it here. It's a buzzing little place with only a handful of tables but great for an easy option out. Try the house special "Al Volo" pizza. Service was good from Luca's wife and Luca has a good sense of humour. A little glitch with the bill at the end put a little dampener on the night though. If you want a drink with your dinner there is a wine menu or go to the bar just over the road, The Corner Store, and order your pizza from there. They have a splendid selection.

I'm not even sure what to say, really. Maybe if this pizza was eaten in the restaurant, maybe it would be ok?? We placed an order through their website for delivery. It showed that the pizza was ready, and they were awaiting the delivery company to pick it up. I waited and waited. 30 min after it showed ready (one hour + after placing the order), I called. "It's the delivery company. They're delayed." Ok, great. So what are we doing to remedy the situation? They were very friendly, super nice, and said they would remake the pizzas because they had been sitting out for so long, and were cold. Great. I hung up, and 3 minutes later, it showed they were out for delivery. You clearly didn't remake 6 pizzas in 3 minutes. So an hour and a half after placing the order, when they had been sitting out at room temp for over an hour, they were delivered. Cold. Limp. Truly awful. The margarita pizza had a total of 6 small leaves of basil. Everything is utterly tasteless. I think I'm still in shock they didn't make an effort to make this right. I said I was fine waiting for them to remake them, because we wanted hot pizza. But clearly that didn't happen. What a disappointment.

On first look we were nonplussed - outdoor chairs inside, a savoury pizza named tiramisu (what?!) but we gave it a shot anyway - and the food was great. Definitely recommend dolce pizza (dessert pizza) - custard and blueberries on a full size pizza base! We were glad to get a good two course meal and drinks for two for $50. Service was a bit overbearing but the waitress has only good intentions. Very satisfying dinner.

You don't need to be a teenager, a mutant or a turtle to become a fan of Al Volvo pizza! Luca and his team make a bloody good Margherita! The Miki is also worth a mention, it really is one of the best white pizzas around. To top it all off, you get pretty good service too. Besides, if you have any clue at all about how strict and precise the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana guidelines are, you would be totally appreciative of their efforts. In fact, after viewing the AVPN's tedious list of rules and regulations it's a small wonder that anyone dares to take on the challenge of making Neapolitan-style pizza - at all!

A while ago if I wanted a pizza take-away, I would have gone somewhere like Hell's or Dominoes but that was before I discovered Al Volo's! They are so good here because they are thin and crispy and you don't get that stodgy feeling after them like you do with other take-away pizza's. Here you can also request little to no cheese which I often do and I just get more of their other ingredients, so yum! You can order online which takes all the fuss out of things and I just go and pick them up when they are ready. Be aware that these pizza's aren't cheap cheap, if you are wanting $4.99 hawaiian pick up you won't find it here but I think you know where to go ya cheapskates :) These taste BEAUTIFUL, the ingredients are so fresh and having them wood-fired just adds this depth in taste like nothing else mmmmm, one pizza is the perfect size for me they aren't really sharing size because they are thin.

I visited this place quite some time ago and I had some amazing pizza here and the service was down right friendly and welcoming! It probably helped that the owner recognized me and was honored to have my travel companion and I at their establishment and offered to comp our meal. I said no thank you I will pay and I left them a large tip for there kindness and welcoming atmosphere. We had the Rocket and Prosciutto, Antipasto (for 2), Carne Pizza, and the Quattro Formaggi Pizza. my companion had the Nutella calzone and I had their only option for chocolate free gelato. A MUST PLACE TO VISIT AND EAT AT IF YOU ARE VISITING THE CITY!!! All pizza had an amazing crust which I haven't had since my studies at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in France. The gelato was smooth and very silky. The salad was good quality and the antipasto had several good options although I remember it being waay too much food so we gave our leftover to some homeless people we saw later that evening. And they aren't too badly priced either, I guess you're bulk buying really! But they aren't the kind of gross, New York style pizzas, some how you feel healthy when eating them. This is probably down to the ingredients, they're fresh, gourmet and traditionally Italian. My favourite is the Pollo it has roast chicken, caponata, eggplant, zucchini, capsicum, red onions, celery, tomato, olives, capers, mozzarella. Wow. I've also dined in the restaurant a few times and it's always so good. I love their potato crochets, it's like biting into a little morsel of goodness. I would definitely recommend Toto if you're looking for a bit or a gourmet night in by the telly, or a fancy evening out.

Through random luck I found Toto online while searching for food deliveries, and decided to come try it out myself. Due to my total lack of directions, I had a bit of trouble finding them on a rainy quiet Friday afternoon. I gave them a call, and their friendly staff came out of the store in the rain to wave at me so I could find them :) Ordered the 1/2 metre Pugliese, which is my all time favourite, and they definitely did not disappoint. The olives, the anchovies, the cheese, everything was great, with just the right proportion of everything. Will definitely try to gather a bunch of friends and try out the full metre next!

Speaking to the owner of the Parnell Store he tells me about his passion & desire to be his own boss and working with Pizza. Until recently Sal's Pizza was a family operation and not up for franchise. This has now slowly changed with the sale of Parnell & more recently the opening of their new store in Hamilton. I am told about how all their ingredients are shipped from New York and nothing is left to chance here, and If I do not like their pizza he will refund my money back every penny (at this point I thought about whether correcting him & telling him we don't do penny's here) but I thought better off since he will be cooking me a fresh pizza.. I've seen what happens on Gordon's Ramsay - Kitchen Nightmares when you talk back to the chef ;-). But I hardly doubt he would ever do something like I have seen on TV. I am presented with the menu in front of me of large 18″ Pizza's or by the slice.. with a cabinet of other foods to go with it, Garlic Knots, Pepperoni Pinwheels, buffalo wings & mozzarella sticks all of which look delicious! since I'm with a group of friends we decide to go for a large half pepperoni half italian meatball with a pitcher of beer to help wash it down, with a size of mozzarella sticks & buffalo wings. The wings & the mozzarella came out first followed by the beer. One thing I have noticed about this place is the decor - styled in New Yorker theme red brick & big screen tv's with NBA Live on ESPN. A good choice to come here during lunch I reckon. They really understand their customers needs. Pizza + Beer + Sport = WIN The pizza came out not long after we finished out wings & mozzarella, we were amazed at the size of this thing.. I am told they do eating competitions for the quickest person to finish a whole 18″ pizza, I am told a good time somewhere in the 30min mark. But I don't see how I could possibly do that - even after 5 mins the pizza is still incredibly hot to bite into. As you see from the photo, this pizza is awesome! taste wise - on a totally a different level than what you find with the likes of Hells & Domino's. I wouldn't even put them in the same league as them. This enjoyment does come with a price 4 times as much as a large Pizza from any other place out there. Is it worth it?? - I think so! The atmosphere as I mentioned before is styled for guys - who love their pizza with their beer while watching sports. Perhaps one night a week they should have lazy boys around the store pointed towards the big screen & charge people $40 for entry which grants them pizza & beer while watching the game.. could be a nice little earner for them. From the 18″ Pizza with three guys we managed to finish off most of the Pizza, I say most as I've left the crusts behind.. but I'm told I would be disqualified if I was in the competition as you have to eat the entire pizza, crusts & all. wow.. After all that I don't think I could move an inch & would gladly sit back for the next hour & watch the sport while the food settles down.. but alas I must get back to work. I now leave you with the following thoughts; Food 4/5 - Best Pizza out - although the sight of seeing oil dripping off, is a tad bit off-putting. Service 5/5 - Friendly & courtious Price - 3/5 $24 for an 18″ Pizza or $9 for 2 Slices.. Atmosphere -5/5 - Where are my lazy boy's?! Like i said before Pizza + Beer + Sports = WIN Overall 4.5/5 - I'm calling it.. Best Pizza Place out.. Hamilton.. prepare to be blown away.. You no longer will have to put up with average pizza from other places.. But with anything this will cost you in the end.
