For our first night in Venice, we decided to walk here for our first dinner of the trip--and it was a great choice! This charming little restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating and has an inviting atmosphere. While it was a bit pricier than some of the other meals we had during our trip it was a great meal. The service was good, but keep in mind that dining in Italy moves at a more relaxed pace, meals aren't rushed, so embrace the slower rhythm while you're here! The highlight for me was the branzino carpaccio, easily one of my favorite dishes from our entire eight-day trip. The clam pasta was also excellent, while my husband's mushroom pasta was just okay, not something we'd order again. Overall, I'd definitely return the next time I'm in Venice! read more

If you need a decent restaurant in a tourist-overwhelmed city like Venice, you simply cannot eat on one of the tourist thoroughfares. I looked into it and found this spot a few streets away from the Grand Canal. They had a menu displayed out front that was a little large, so I was worried it would be yet another tourist trap, but decided to take the plunge. Our group of five was seated outside on a calm street which was so nice. Service was about normal for Italy - not super friendly but did the job. The food was fantastic. Pastas and sauces all had actual seasoning unlike the tourist hellholes. The fried softshell crab (moeche) appetizer was a 10/10 dish. The lobster pasta was as well, served on a half lobster shell for a bit of panache. The second course of the 'crispy' (not crispy) seabass was awesome with so many little olives and capers. Great sauce again. Daughter said her pasta was the best we had on our trip around Italy. Pizza is the only thing that could have been a little better (needed more time in the oven). Do yourself a HUGE favor and walk a few extra blocks to this spot where they have amazing food that is *seasoned*. I cannot believe how bad most tourist restaurants are in this country. It's pretty close to the realto bridge. With pretty good food I had a pasta with clams which was good. They had a good wine selection with a nice white wine. Good service with waiters that seem to care about a good experience, great service. At night it's pretty quiet around the restaurant. read more

Wow! We originally wanted to go to a different restaurant but Al Paradise was on the way and it looked good! Despite the so so reviews we decided to eat here and we would 1000% recommend! I ordered the menu touristico, thinking it was going to be a good deal. I guess it was, but food was mediocre. For the first course, I ordered the taglitelle panna, prosciutto, and piselli (milk cream, ham, and peas). I never realized how weird peas taste in pasta. I thought the peas were weird, but pasta and sauce was fine. For the second course, I ordered the calamari and fries. BIG MISTAKE. I was scared I was going to get sick from eating the calamari. It was sort of tasteless and had a weird texture. The fries weren't even salted. You had to salt it yourself. They also gave us packets of ketchup, but all the packets were already used... So that was gross.. I got apple pie for the dessert. It was fine. Sucks you couldn't choose from the real dessert menu. read more

If u are in Venice, this is a MUST. I cannot more highly recommend. This restaurant is a little off the beaten path & not a tourist trap. Nestled in a historic & traditional Venetian alley the food is a 10/10, the service is a 10/10 & the pricing is very justified. 90% of my food experience in Venice, with the exception of this & one other restaurant, has been way over priced blah. What a great dining experience! We found this place on a walk (close to our Airbnb) as we were looking for a place that had a menu which could accommodate 4 different eating styles (including a kid and a teen vegetarian). Wow did we luck out! The menu was large and the staff went out of their way to accommodate then went well above and beyond in making us feel welcome and at home in Venice. What started out as just grabbing dinner turned into several hours of family dinner. Our kids say this meal was the highlight of our Venice trip. A 5-Star Dinner--with 5-Star Ambiance! AL PARADISO was highly recommended by our concierge at the Hotel Londra, where we stayed. First, we were greeted by the manager, JURI (pronounced Yuri), whose charm, knowledge and guidance of the food of Venice, made our evening spectacular. Juri selected the local dishes of Venice, such as Sarde in saor, Bigoli in salsa, and Granseola, (Italian for spider crab), and a hand-picked, delicious wine from a small, boutique (woman-owned) local vineyard. The prices were very fair. Certainly, for the quality of food, much less expensive than the USA. But, Juri was so gracious, talking about his passion for the restaurant, Venice--and his wife and three daughters--it made for a wonderful, memorable night. We sat there for THREE HOURS! I had the Tourist 3 course menu with spaghetti with seafood for first course, calimari and French fries for second course with lemon gelato for dessert. 15 euro was a deal! 7 euro for house Merlot . My family of 5 stumbled upon this cute restaurant in an alley & we were lured in by their tourist menu (1&2 course + dessert). However, we ended up ordering the carbonara, spaghetti bolognese, the chef salad, and the barbero pizza! + the service was super friendly & available for us to ask for a second water bottle + food was surprisingly good - Looks can be a little deceiving, but have a little faith! + we had some live music, but (-) expect to have some change to give them - water is 4 euros, so be aware! read more

We just arrived in Venice (and in Italy) today. Tired, jetlagged, we didn't have the energy to search on TripAdvisor or Yelp for suggestions. Sorting through data was too daunting. So we walked, feeling into the atmosphere of different places we passed. Of course every restaurant is there to serve the tourist population. But some feel like tourist meal factories. So we wandered and then stepped into an alley and saw Al Paradiso. It seemed ever so slightly off the beaten track. It seemed cozy, nicely decorated, not too big. Our instinct said to give it a try. Our instinct was right. Yuri, the maitre-d, was beyond charming. He was high spirited, responded to our excitement at being in Venice with an equal measure of excitement in welcoming us. We talked over our choices with him. He steered us toward specialties that he knew we would like. When we resisted he brought us tastes anyway. Everything was delicious but the highlights included (1) the sea bass carpaccio with fennel in a light orange vinaigrette, served with oven-crisped rosemary toast; (2) a kind of PERFECT papardelle with wild mushrooms (the vegetarian among us was head over heels for this); and (3) a dessert that was a port mousse with strawberries lightly cooked in balsamic vinegar. There was wine, there were cookies, there was wonderful conversation with Yuri, who took a genuine interest in us and our plans and our experiences, without being intrusive. Popped in here because the restaurant I had been looking for was nowhere to be found and it was already getting late. Servers paid no attention to my friend and I while making multiple visits to other tables of what seemed filled with locals. I ordered the shrimp scampi because thats a dish I truly love while my friend ordered the spaghetti alla vongole. As soon as my dish came out, I knew it would be disappointing because the sauce looked watered down and soupy. My scampi tasted like plain tomato sauce and the sauce was so watery that my pasta didn't taste al dente and was a bit soggy. I wanted to send it back but my friend offered to eat mine and trade me for his spaghetti vongole. That pasta tasted a lot better although it was still nothing spectacular. Poor meal experience for my first meal in Italy and sad introduction to Italian made pasta. I would not recommend going to Al Paradiso. read more

We decided we wanted to stay near our hotel in Venice today for lunch and we wanted fresh pasta, because after all it's our first day in Italy. Al Paradiso delivered! The outside terrace was full but we were all too happy to eat inside and out of the Venice heat. The owners waited on us and were so friendly and eager to please. We shared the fried calamari to start that came with a side of marinara. It was crispy and tender. A glass of the house white wine was so refreshing! We each had tagliolini, mine was with a red sauce and scampi and my husbands had crab in a butter sauce. I preferred mine (and I believe he did too but did not want to admit it!). Easily the best meal we had in Venice and top 3 for our entire trip to Italy (Rome, Florence and Venice). We made reservations for 7:30 but happened to wander by when they opened at 6, so we decided to go ahead and sit. 3 hours later and stuffed with delicious food, we're finally heading back to the hotel to pack. Because we were early we had the place to ourselves and the service (even when they started to fill up) - simply outstanding. Go here. Order whatever they recommend. You can't go wrong. read more

This was one of my favorite meals during my whole trip to Italy. I came in during my first day in Venice. A lot of restaurants were closed after 2:30 PM but this place was open. I had the sea bass carpaccio and the gnocchi with tomato and sausage. Both dishes were delicious! The gnocchi and the sauce tasted so fresh. I have never had anything like it. We were walking near the Rialto Bridge and Grand Canal then decided to get some dinner. Instead of sitting in one of the restaurants right off the Grand Canal that we feared would be a tourist trap, we decided to walk through one of the alleys. I'm glad we did because we would have missed this restaurant! We were lured in by the musicians and amazing dishes we saw people dining on. My husband and I shared the pappardelle with mushrooms, spaghetti alla bolognese, pesto gnocchi, and a bottle of red wine. It was one of our favorite meals we had in Italy! Stay away, We came to the restaurant for good yelp reviews, the reviews do not correlate with the experience we had. Food is mediocre the waiter was pushy and was not interested in providing good service, tried to talk us out of ordering salad as we can make it at home then and forgot one dish and when confronted acted like it's on its way , 15 minutes later the dish was still not ready and kept stating that it's ready, when finally told we do not want it they then added various charges. Review your bill as they add on bogus charges. I will not return to this restaurant. read more

Randomly found this place wandering the streets of Venice. It was a little after 10pm and most places around the area were already closed. Thank goodness this place was open and were happy to seat and serve us. This was by far one of the best meals we've ever had. I had the spaghetti clams and my husband had the crab gnocchi. Ok. So you are in Venice and there are good restaurants in 50 feet in any direction and you are exhausted from the crowds and hungry. So you don't want to swing and miss on dinner in Italy. Step in Al Paridiso. It is on a side street and away from the crowds thus laid back and quiet. Food allergy friendly with gluten free pasta. The good: quiet and relaxed, away from the crowds. Rather good food, especially the caprese. The not so good: smaller menu and no inexpensive table wine. All-in-all a good, but not exceptional, choice for a group of hungry tourists. read more

The hotel recommended Al Paradiso as an opportunity to "Eat Well" and it certainly delivered. A small intimate restaurant, we were warmly welcomed and care was taken to help us pick food we would enjoy. A glass of a house Cabernet Frank was excellent and the polenta was the best we've ever had. Pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked. The cuttlefish was cooked in a black sauce and was great. Highly recommended and certainly a restaurant we would return to. We ate inside but the outside seating appeared attractive as well. read more

So rude! My boyfriend and I were walking around town in the afternoon and saw Al Paradiso. I recall seeing the place on Yelp and wanted to see the menu to see if we might want to have dinner there later. There were about 3 parties eating on the patio as I walk in and the woman says "We're closed". I say "Can I see the menu for dinner for later?" She said "No". I was a little taken aback by the blunt rudeness because I love Venice and the people. So I asked "No? I can't see the menu for later?" She looked me in my eyes and said "No." That was all I needed.
