My wife and I contacted AL Glass and Mirror about a new bathroom shower door. Alvaro Gomez (Al Jr.) came by to take measurements for an estimate and promised to follow up by sending images of their products with the final quote for the job. We received an estimate for $2000 and were asked for a deposit of 50 %. However, according to the California State Licensing Board, "Contractors cannot ask for a deposit of more than 10 percent of the total cost of the job or $1,000, whichever is less". When questioned about this, Mr. Gomez suggested a 30 % deposit instead. While I was reluctant (we have been burned by questionable contractors before), my wife still wanted to move forward and hire this company. I subsequently reached out to Mr. Gomez two or three more times over the next few days via email and text messages to ascertain if he had any more questions about the scope of the job, where exactly to send the deposit, and when they would start the work. We never heard back, though - not a peep - and eventually hired a different company. I don't know their exact MO, but it appears AL Glass and Mirror do not need any more work. If so, I'm happy for them, however, I don't quite understand why they would even come out and waste their own - as well as our - time and then just be in the wind. I had AL put in glass stair railings and a glass enclosure for a home office. These guys were good to work with and I am very happy with the outcome. I noticed some chipping on the glass panel for the stair railing (likely happened with manufacturing). The glass was re-manufactured and the guys came and installed a week or so later with no fuss or chasing. Often you tell more about a business when things go wrong than when they go right. I am so disappointed in this Altadena company. They did a glass table top for my new dining room table. It was never cleaned but had smudges here and there. Finally the smudges worsened and I decided to have the glass cleaned. They wanted to charge me $75 just to come to my home and $25 to clean the glass. I live THREE BLOCKS from their business. Good job on a custom glass enclosure for my newly renovated master bathroom. We did run into a few hiccups, but Al was fairly responsive and his crew were able to resolve the issues. 1) Original install date could not happen because the glass that was delivered was not the low-iron type that I had requested. 2) Install on the revised date could not be fully completed due to an issue with silicone caulking (bubbles in the silicone) as well as a missing part (robe hook). All issues were resolved in a timely fashion, but a little bit of patience was needed to schedule and coordinate with Al and his crew (do not expect 24 hour response time). The crew does seem to care about the quality of their work, and will work toward customer satisfaction. read more

I made the mistake of getting inexpensive fitness mirrors from an national company. Once they were installed they were terrible - distorted, with distracting strips between each mirror, raw edges, etc. Once I had them removed, Oscar came in and had his team put quality mirrors up. The difference was amazing. The workers took their time to measure and make sure each mirror was lined up properly, took care with each one and even cleaned the mirrors and vacuumed before leaving. The price paid was far below what ANY of the other local glass companies quoted. I couldn't be happier with the service and product. If you need fitness mirrors call Oscar.
