This restaurant is situated in a prime location, right next to a charming neighborhood square where families and friends often gather. It offers a vibrant atmosphere, perfect for people-watching. Our "friend" had been urging us to try it out multiple times, and finally, we decided to give it a go on a night when we had no prior plans. Initially, everything seemed pleasant enough. We were able to choose a table outside and the service was prompt in taking our drink orders. The server even added a touch of fun by engaging with us about our pasta and drink choices. To our delight, they also provided free wifi. Since we were quite hungry, we quickly placed our food order, opting for the scampi appetizer and two pasta dishes but mentioned this is first round. The bread served to us was absolutely delightful - fresh and flavorful. As we savored it, we finished our wine and water, patiently waiting for the server to come by for refills or to take our main meal order. I specifically inquired about the shrimp being peeled, and the server assured me that it was indeed shell-free. However, when the scampi arrived, it was intact eyes and shells. The server mentioned that it could be grilled upon request, but even after cooking, it lacked flavor, despite the addition of lemon. Unfortunately, no one came to refill our drinks or clear our table from empty glasses and bread crumbs. We waited an unusually long time, while the server attended to new tables and neglected ours, leaving us without drinks, bread, or any attention to the shrimp shells. Frustrated, we decided to leave our card on the table, pay the bill, and request our pasta to be packed for takeout. Finally, our pasta arrived, and we were able to settle the bill. However, it was at this point, after over 40 minutes had passed, that they asked if we wanted a refill. We were already ready to leave by then. I had been looking forward to trying some of the other main courses on the menu, but unfortunately, our server(s) never came to inquire. I felt somewhat trapped in this situation, especially considering that the prices were not cheap. Compared to other restaurants in the vicinity, this one would definitely be at the bottom of my list. In light of my experience, I would recommend the implementation of an online ordering option, especially if the restaurant is understaffed. Additionally, the prices seemed quite high for the value received. Maybe find the few dishes or experiences you excell at and focus on those being premium price but offer a value meal in each category to stand out as affordable. I would also offer take away wine and bread. When we left we tried three more places in the quad for wine and was much better and cheaper than the house wine I received here. read more

We stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to eat here as it was one of the only places open around 6pm. I ordered pasta with meat sauce, grilled chicken, and french fries for their 15 euro deal. The pasta was great, however my grilled chicken almost appeared "empty." My friends were questioning whether it was chicken and some even described it as a chip. These photos were taken immediately after I received my plate. I called our waiter over to ask if this was normal and he gaslit me into thinking nothing was wrong. We stayed in Campo San Giacomo dell' Orio and we ate at Al Bagolo regularly. It's hard to describe how much we love the restaurant. The food is first rate. Amazing fish and meat, perfect pasta and delicious limoncello. But, for us, one of the big draws is the staff. Ladio, Alex and the rest of the crew are wonderful people. They make you feel like family, take great care with food allergies, they have wonderful stories and are just incredibly sweet, kind people. This restaurant is wonderfully located right in the square where you can enjoy a violinist who appears on and off all day long. On Tuesday nights (during the season) there is Tango dancing for the locals which is as sublime an experience as you can ever hope to have. It's a wonderful Venetian experience. We'll remember it for the rest of our lives and we miss our friends at the restaurant. They're beautiful people. read more

Food was good! The portions were much more significant than yelp had led me to believe- we ordered two dishes each as a result and were much too full. The lasagna was delicious and creamy, the clam pasta was very tasty, and the wine was pretty good too. The service was suuuuper attentive (we actually got asked for drinks after which might have been part of it lol) a couple of times I reached for the wine bottle only to have a waiter bustle over and take it from me to pour! This was my first Venetian restaurant upon arrival because it was one of the few places open before 7pm on a Saturday. It looked crowded outside but I think it was mostly people having drinks outside in the cold. The actual restaurant portion is tiny and there weren't too many people. We decided to order some appetizers before having dinner somewhere else. We ordered the crispy calamari and the sardines with onions (which I read is a Venetian speciality). Both tasted fine, but for 12€ each, you're not getting a big portion. We also ordered the 10€ half liter of house wine, which wasn't great. I also tried the 3.5€ spritz was was so sweet and bitter at the same time. Like most Venetian restaurants, water is not free so you have to pay 3€ for a bottle. Unless you're desperate and hungry like we were, I'd try another place. Also, trip advisor is a better resource app than Yelp in Venice. I love Yelp but not in Venice. read more

I'm guessing something has changed at this restaurant since other Yelpers visits as our was great. Really polite and friendly service. On top of that, awesome food! We had the grilled veggies (5 euro) that were really great especially with the fresh parsley as an accent. We shared the pasta (15 euro) stuffed with Seabass, wow! It had a light tomato sauce and shrimp and calamari on top. The bread was warm and good. Totally a place I'd recommend others go to. The diners around us also commented on how good their meals were. This place is amazing! We had a cheese plate as an appetizer and the cheese was incredibly delicious! I had the steak with roasted potatoes and my husband had the breaded milanesa. We came across this restaurant just by chance and during our short visit, we want back two times because it was so good. Four stars for location: on this picturesque Piazza, sitting on the terrace sipping an aperol spritz its all good news.. but try to find some place other to eat: No stars for FOOD -On one occasion I ordered a salad and got a handful of iceberg lettuce, 4 tomatoes, 6 olives, 5 small balls of Mozzarella without dressing: 9 EURO Tasteless, incipit, boring and just a rip off. - Second time (thing is this is the only place open between 2.30pm-5pm in the area) I had oven-roast chicken and potatoes. The chicken was grey, smelled off, had been microwaved back into shape and the potatoes were soggy (again, microwave) and floury inside. Service is unfriendly, doesnt care yet thinks they own the place. Dont eat there, whatever you do. read more

We wanted to drop in for an after dinner drink and dessert. They were super friendly, served us quickly and gave us generous pours for our Amaro. Dessert was solidly good and all the meals coming out for others looked delicious. We will consider coming back for lunch tomorrow! read more

One word: avoid. I hesitate to leave a review because the lack of reviews should speak for itself, but I owe a duty to all yelpers out there to ensure that no one makes the same mistake I did in coming to eat at this restaurant. You'll probably first be drawn to the reasonable prices and cute outside seating area as we were. However, the dining experience went downhill exponentially after being seated. My twin sister and I both ordered the lasagne bolognese. I happen to love lasagna btw. What I received on my plate was not lasagna, not even by lean cuisine standards. It was flavorless, extremely mushy, and contained very little bolognese. I felt really bad about doing this, but I had to send it back. It was, yes, that bad. My twin sister who has never in her life returned food at a restaurant did the same. **The treatment that followed is something I've never experienced in my life.** The server came back and told us he tried the lasagna we sent back and said it was very good. We were speechless. Just because you think it tastes good doesn't mean it does or that we will all of a sudden change our minds and agree with you. He argued with us that it was good and demanded to know what was wrong with it. I couldn't believe what he was doing. Then he said he couldn't take it off the bill or even provide us with two orders to replace it. He said he could give us one new salad, which we politely declined and then he asked if we wanted more wine... Hm. Getting off the point Mr. Server. I'm not upset about the price or having to pay for the disgusting food we didnt eat. I'm upset about the treatment and lack of adherence to a basic principle (I don't care what country you live in or come from): the customer is always right. Well, not at this restaurant. Oh, he even had the gall to ask me how many times I've been to Italy when I was leaving... Wow. I should have read the reviews before going! We were staying very close to the Square that this restaurant is located) San Giacomo). The square is charming very cute, away from the tourist hotspots. They had a music festival going on the week we stayed here. It was lots of lively music on every evening, so we wanted to eat at the Square and enjoy the atmosphere. We had eaten a couple of meals at Ae Oche next-door -- which wasn't fancy but the service was super friendly. This is more expensive and looked a little fancier. We were seated at a very bright table outside. Large drink menu. However, they did not have the first four items we asked for. So I decided to order a cocktail... They said they would not be able to make any cocktails listed on the menu, as the preparation time would be over five minutes (neither the restaurant nor the bar were overly crowded at the time we went)... So we ordered a limoncello (a pretty basic order in Italy) ... None available! Finally I ordered a rose wine (hot evening and I was looking for something refreshing) they brought me a sparkling wine -- of poor quality! Dinner was nothing special - I ordered veal scaloppine in lemon sauce with a side of roasted potatoes. The food came out within five minutes (so quickly it made me wonder whether it was freshly prepared)...Food at nicer restaurants in Italy usually take at least 15 minutes to come out. The meat was not too bad when doused in the lemon sauce... The potatoes were awful just awful. Tasted stale like they were reheated in old oil.... (Not extra virgin!)... Who ruins potatoes? It's such a basic standard item. A side of potatoes that cost five euros, should at the very least be freshly roasted and crispy.... These were swimming in oil and tasted stale. Given the location the ambience was not good .. Lights were too bright. Stay away. You can do better! Even Ae Oche next door is better! Two stars for location and speedy service. read more

Our first meal In Venice and what a waste of money! $50 for grilled vegetables (out of can), 2 dry pasta dishes (no sauce to speak of), con vongole and pasta "cliff style" which was supposed to be spicy but wasn't spicy at all. Both would have tasted better if they just poured Lidia Bastianich sauce over pasta. We purposefully avoided eating in touristy areas but looks like apart from a handful of good restaurants most food in Venice is bad, made for tourists. We had fabulous mozzarella and gorgonzola cheese and vegetables from a supermarket though. Good food is there but you may have to go out of your way to find it. read more

Stopped by for a 'cicchetto' and a drink with my sister last night. We had a couple of pieces of breaded and fried 'branzino' (common local fish) and potato croquettes, old and stale in both cases. All the cicchetti they offer are fried and one has to wonder how long before you eat them they were actually fried... I would not recommend it. read more
