This spot was recommended by the restaurant next door for cocktails. We had an hour wait for a table so cocktails sounded good. We grabbed the last table outside. Unlike many of the other spots, they were also busy inside. Loud and upbeat atmosphere. Unfortunately it took some time for our Server to take our order. That said our server was apologetic and offered some good recommendations so good recovery. Negroni (Gin, Campari, Vermouth) was a first for me and I haven't had a better one since. We had just arrived at our hotel (Carnival Palace) and asked the desk clerks for a good place to get a bite to eat. They enthusiastically recommended Al Parlamento, which was just across the bridge, not very far, and said they actually go there frequently. We chose to sit inside, crazy right?! Very cute and modern look inside. Our son-in-law had told about cicchetti (sp?) in Venice, which are small snacks/side dishes/small sandwiches, and Al Parlamento was a great example of it. This place has a definite cafe/pub vibe. My husband was totally intrigued by items in the display case, none of which we knew what they were, but everything looked delicious. Our waitress helped us order a few things to try, everything was good, unfortunately, I can't remember what anything was except for the breaded & fried meatballs (have no idea as to the actual name of it). We ordered "Toast Sandwiches." I had the Romano, which is prosciutto cotto, cheese, and artichokes--loved it! My husband had the Croque sandwich, prosciutto lotto, omelette, and Grand Padano cheese. He enjoyed his as much as I did mine. This was our first Venetian eating experience and it was wonderful. My husband discovered the drink that he would adopt for our entire trip in Italy, lemon soda! I had a glass of white wine. We loved everything about Al Parlamento--the wait staff, the ambiance, location, price, the food & drink! My only regret is that we never got back there before we left! First time in Venice with my husband and so far this has been our favorite meal yet! Food was outstanding and atmosphere is unbeatable as you are right on the canal. My husband got the lasagna bolognese, and I got the spaghetti cacio e pepe. We also got the tiramisu for dessert. Everything was 10/10! The staff was all very friendly and we were seated immediately. Tucked away in the historic "ghetto," it's in more of a residential area so you're out of the hustle and bustle of tourism to relax for a while. I went in the morning, so I recommend the shakerato (Italian iced espresso) and the breakfast panini. Delicious. Great place right by the canal. Lots of local people because of where it is. Outside seating is great if you can get it. We came two times to eat. The service is good but they are busy so it may be a few more minutes than you are used to. But the point is to enjoy where you are. And if you are trying to talk you are going to have to shout! We were starving after the airport and found this adorable spot right on the canal - and just steps from the front door of our hotel. This was my favourite night in Venice. A really cool cocktail bar on the quieter end of town. Cocktails were only 5 euros until 9pm and even after that they weren't expensive. I loved the interior- it was nautical themed without being cheesy. Venice is full of tacky touristy places so it was refreshing to step into somewhere a bit smarter. The cocktails were excellent. We tried several. There were classics, lots of twists on the classic spritz and some I hadn't heard of. The champagne cocktail went down very well. As well as drinks there is food available. They had a menu of toasties, bruschetta, pizza, salads and a menu of the day with pasta and so on. We chose a few items and shared them while drinking, which was a relaxed way of going about it. The caprese salad came with lovely buffalo mozzarella, the tomato and anchovy bruschetta was salty and delicious- the tomatoes stood out on this one. We also had grilled vegetables and chicken skewers which were a little over cooked but very nice. If you're bored of very traditional or very touristy food in Venice, come here, have some cocktails and share some food. You will be happy! read more

We were getting hungry after a long day of walking and we are both slightly jet lagged, we had already eaten and walked to one other restaurant that wanted to charge us just to sit down and another 12% service built in, we really only get like a single meal was enough for our little tummies. But the Mofo at the other place said we needed to order more food.... needless to say we left that hole.. here's a tip do not eat on the main paths they gauge tourists... The bartender at our hotel told us about this place and it is open late so we headed on over to check it. They were great and service was perfect, we ordered the Lasagna with bolognese sauce and a glass of wine. It was good I feel as if the Pizza would have been better as it was a tad dry could have used more sauce and flavour.
