This is a beautiful theater! There's public parking nearby which is free on weekends. The snacks and drinks sold are reasonably priced ($1 for a bag of chips).

Beautiful venue! Restorations are impressive. Saw a concert and the sound was great. Friendly staff with great knowledge of the theater. Good drinks. Fun place

This review is about a tour of the theater. There are a lot of stairs. Neil was our guide, and he was well informed. The building, designed by Marcus Lowe, is huge and was built over the canal. The Moorish style architecture is full of symbolism, including parrots on the carpet. In these gorgeous atmospheric theaters (moving clouds on the ceiling built in the 1920s) were popular aviaries. You could pet and talk to parrots! Since the latest fundraising campaign, money was available to open two small stages. They are for drama, poetry readings, parties, graduations, whatever is needed for a fee. The corridors are beautiful. The main auditorium is amazing. Donations are accepted for the one-hour tour, which is free.

Wonderful evening in a beautiful space. We truly enjoyed every aspect of Andre 3000's performance!

The Akron Civic Theater is a magical space. The seats, lighting, sound, and atmosphere was brilliant. Lots of snacks and beverages. Servers were fast, friendly and easy to navigate. Definitely returning!

Andre 3000 at the historic theatre. Support alternative black american music!

I loved this historic theatre! It reminded me of the theaters in New Orleans and Black American neighborhoods that I lived in and supported through the years. The theatre has the traditional massive stair case, several floors/mezzanines, gold overlays and murals that you would find from the 1940s/1950s. The icing on the cake and surprise was that this was the stop off for Andre 3000s tour?!?!? Akron?!!? Okay..... nevertheless we braved the unknown and got a room next to the theatre to be there on time. The bar service was great and everyone was cheerful. I would have liked to see a sold out crowd, but the 70% capacity allowed us to get closer PR tickets and move closer to the action. Maybe the capacity is reflective of the location or the lack of marketing, either way I know if in either of my hometowns listed above- it would have been sold out. Keep creating Andre! And people keep supporting music and theatre, do not let a beauty such as this civic theatre be subject to corporate greed. We do not need another chain 'insert name here'.

The theater is gorgeous! Plenty of security and ushers to help you find your seat. Seats are comfortable & the sound is good. Never used the restroom or got drinks, so can't speak on that. It was our first time and it was a great experience!

First time here - great experience. Saw a holiday concert. Good seats center in the middle back. Nice bathrooms. Decor all around was classic & well maintained. Temperature was right & seats were roomy. Not too crowded so that helped. Artists were ok but the venue was real nice. Parking lot had long lines but we got free street spot. Wouldn't mind coming back here again.

Beautiful decor. So historic. I understand that they just recently renovated the theatre. We went to the facility for our sons job orientation. Would be interested definitely in checking out their venue once they open again.

I want to see The Living Dead at Akron civic theater and had a wonderful time. The theater is very spacious and the sound quality was decent. They had many people staffed to help out. The theater also serves candy and beverages. It is located in downtown Akron, we did not have a trouble parking on the street (although it was a weekday).

Beautiful historical theatre built in 1929. Even after all the years of remolding and up dates they have still kept most of the original features. Wonderful detail throughout the enter place. First and second floor have a small concession area. They also have an elevator and restrooms are handicap accessible. Lots of parking downtown. One parking deck is just across the street. It's always a treat to visit.

Such a pretty theater! Went last night for a circus and totally enjoyed it! I was actually having more room/leg space than the previous theater I went. You don't feel packed even with so many people around you. The decors were authentic and we all had a really good time. Parking was also really easy which makes it convenient.

We arrived a few minutes late. Doors locked, staff stared at us from inside. We walked away without seeing the show. Won't come here again.

Ask the Community - Akron Civic Theatre

    Where to park?

The closest parking would be Cascade parking deck. The next closest would be the one right next to Lock 3 Park around the corner from Barley House.

The park is gorgeous, has a very convenient and clean towpath. This is DORA area so you can enjoy beverages from nearby places. There is also a stage for performers. Bring a blanket or a chair for extra comfort during the shows, there is no permanent seating. Only the stage area is covered so bring an umbrella on rainy days. Parking is conveniently located by the Children's museum. Parking rates vary. I visited Lock 3 park over a weekend (20-21 July 2019) for the 38th annual African American Festival & Parade. I was working at a booth at the festival. I wish more advertisement was done for the festival because it wasn't that busy on Saturday but way more people came on Sunday. Apparently though, Saturdays tend to be a quieter day according to one of the festival organizers. There was no rain during the time I was there and so it was a warm day to be outside (it was actually very hot). The festival organisers had my team and another vendor under a big tent so I was happy to be under some shade even though it was still very hot. LOCK 3 PARK -- This is a family friendly outdoor park that hosts events as well. There is a stage where different performers entertain. The park is a medium sized park so it isn't big. There are some benches to sit at around the park. A canal lock is used to raise and lower boats. Lock 3 sots on the Ohio-Erie Canal which is the waterway that flows into to Lake Erie. I don't known if this lock device is used anymore but I have a photo of the canal in my attached pictures. LOCATION -- As I stated earlier, this park is in downtown Akron. There is currently so much construction happening on S. Main Street that parking and finding a way to enter the park can be challenging especially if you don't live in Akron. Thankfully, I was dropped off both on Saturday and Sunday. Overall, this is a nice outdoor space. Swings and maybe a small playground would be a nice addition for kids. Also, a shaded canopy or covering would be great for hot days outside. **** - 98 total reviews in 2019 - 307 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 22 July 2019

It was so strong, it gave me a headache. This place is very old. The decor was very old and tacky. We had made a reservation, and thought we would be seated immediately. We had to wait at least 20 minutes, and the restaurant wasn't even busy! When we were finally seated, I went to go get food. Everything on the buffet bar looked all over the place and messy. I looked at the plates and was disgusted that there were food on the plates! I took a clean one and got food. I tried the food I got and EVERYTHING was cold! The only warm food was the mashed potatoes. The ham was cold and had an odd taste about it. The sausage tasted ok, but I have to say frozen sausage was better than this travesty! The pancakes tasted like they were made from boxed mix. I decided to try the eggs. They were were cold and discussing. I than tried the mashed potatoes. They were ok, and I can confidently say that that was the only food I liked. At this point I was disgusted. The only reason I kept eating was to satisfy the expensive price. The only thing I felt was edible was the ham and potatoes. As I got more food, I was very upset that the fruit tray was always empty. I then had desert. The cookies seemed store bought, and old (just like the rest of the restaurant). The chocolate cake was ok, but the balance of flavors was disturbed by the frosting.
