This is one of the better sushi places in Riverview. Still not the best, but we've tried a lot of sushi around here, and this one will curb your cravings. They also have hibachi that the kids would eat, so that's a plus for us. For sushi, we ordered the yummy roll, caterpillar roll, monkey roll, and the yahoo roll. These rolls were HUGE and filled with rice. Definitely a 2-bite minimum. Overall, this place isn't my favorite, but it is one of the better sushi in this entire area, so if we're craving, we would choose here over other places.

Looking for a local sushi spot and found Akira tonight, close to our house! It's a small but cozy place in a strip mall. Inside was very clean and well put together. Their menu is expansive and they have a lot of options, from bento box, hibachi, noddles, sushi, sashimi, etc. For apps we did the pork gyoza which was delish! I decided on the sushi dinner which had 3 rolls, with miso soup and salad included. The rolls came out and I was impressed with their size! I couldn't finish them all! What a good value though, it was $18 for the dinner. We also ordered the Chicken Teriyaki dinner ( not the hibachi meal) and the sauce on the chicken was delicious. Fried rice on the side was good too! Service was excellent. The lady was so friendly, funny, and attentive! It was a delight to find Akira and I will be back! I want to try their lunch specials!

My friends brought me here and it seemed like they were treated like family. The Chef behind the counter immediately recognized my friend and welcomes him in, by first name. Our family of 5 were seated immediately at 6pm on a Sunday night. Orders were taken, suggestions and questions answered politely, and then a few minutes later, the food began to arrive. My nephew and niece love Sushami and I preder cowboy rolls and chicken. So I had the cowboy roll (which was not deep friend and was wrapped the size of thumb.) It was small which made me happy because I wasn't so sure I liked their version. I was being adventurous because I had just had a cowboy roll for the first time 2 days earlier in another part of Florida. So this cowboy roll was smaller, not fried, but was still delicious.) My friends kids and themselves had some other delectable rolls and I continued with a large portion of General Tso's chicken. It was ok. The rice was great but the chicken itself had a hard outer shell and was a little difficult to eat. I took a large portion home. The service was excellent and friendly. Everyone else's plates were cleaned so ai suppose they liked all their meals as they always come here to eat.

We've been coming here for years and the quality, flavor, service is always amazing! This is our favorite sushi spot and all the other dishes are so flavorful and delicious. Everything is very clean, the staff is so kind, attentive and helpful!

This was my third visit to Akira and I must say they are making it hard for me to consider returning to my regular sushi spot. When ordering takeout the hospitality starts over the phone. They answer my many questions and offer suggestions without making me feel rushed. Each time I've visited the restaurant was clean and I was greeted with warm and friendly service. As a bonus the sushi chef always lets his presence be known with a cheerful greeting from behind his prep station! Now for the cuisine... AWESOME, FRESH, and DELICIOUS are the first words that come to mind. If you are a sushi snob as I am, you will be delighted with the quality and freshness that is offered here. The lobster dynamite, sexy girl and scorpion rolls are some of my faves!

Super hyped to find this sushi place since I use to live on Long Island. Exactly what I'm looking for when craving sushi. Will be ordering from again

Food is still amazing! We've tried several of the local sushi places over time and realized we prefer Akira to all others. The Gyoza and Crab Rangoon are also delicious! They recognize us and know our order ha. Friendly staff Atmosphere is always nice as well.

Nothing special. The photo may look nice but the food itself is average if that. I guess I'm used to bolder good tasting foods which is not this sad to say. FYI they cooked this inside not at the table

We had 4 rolls (cowboy roll, sweet potato roll, Akira roll and Shaggy dog roll) they were all delicious! My 6 yr old preferred the Shaggy dog roll over the cowboy roll but still great! Glad to find a good place closer to home. The server was attentive and kind, restaurant was clean and that calamari was not rubbery AT ALL! Must try!

The food was by far the nastiest thing I could have tasted in the moment! It was not good the rice had no flavor at all tasted like a knock off P.F. Chang's rice. The noodles was over cooked and tasted like left overs. The chicken tasted like a knock off of mall food. I am so disappointed! Do not come here if you like Hibatchi. If I could leave a 0% I would!

This gem is located in a small plaza over in the Riverview/Fishhawk area and let me tell you everything here is absolutely delicious. From their hibachi to their specialty sushi rolls this place delivers flavorful quality food every time. If you're vegan or love sweet potato I highly suggest trying their sweet potatoes sushi roll this is a game changer. They have a great spot to sit at if you want the hibachi cooked in front of you or if you just want to have something more chill and relaxed they have booths on the other side. You could still order hibachi as well from that area. Honestly I have nothing bad to say about this place it's my favorite place to eat it at once a month. It's located right next to a gym so you could stop in for a good meal after a workout.

UPDATE: 3/15/17 - Akira Hibachi & Sushi has, apparently, changed hands since a couple months ago. I guess this means I have an explanation for the less than freshest fish quality and freshness the last couple times I ordered during the changeover. I hope this does not continue to be a problem for the new owners, but the freshest fish is essential in sushi-making. All their Fried items, like shrimp tempura, was fresh, it's just that the Specialty Rolls at an average of $15 is steep if the sushi is simply not fresh. 23/100 ORIGINAL REVIEW: The vast space is decorated Japanese-style with dim lighting and friendly, prompt service. Pretty little Japanese dolls are perched beautifully at the foyer entrance, along with the Lucky Cat, who is waving "hi" to you ;). Seating inside is a large sushi bar, pub tables, hibachi and regular tables, as well as a few booths running along the outskirts of the restaurant. Cozy. I'm in this restaurant a lot! You could say I can't live without this one, and this sushi is always in my regular rotation. The rolls here are always made with very fresh fish/seafood and all the accompanying ingredients of fruits and vegetables are super-fresh as well. I've tried quite a few rolls, and so far, my favorite roll is in the 'Chef's Special Roll' section. It's a fancy roll at $15, The Lobster Dynamite Roll - with each piece having a nice big chunk of lobster, it is wrapped in seaweed with a piece of mango, avocado, sushi rice, then covered with spicy tuna, and drizzled with sweet chili sauce to top it all off. Delicious! Akira's rolls are comprised of 8 pieces, and range in price from $4.95 to $18.00 for special rolls. Lunch Specials are always a good way to go. Hibachi Meals come with Onion Soup, Hibachi Vegetables, and Fried Rice. Starting at $9.95 with either Chicken or Vegetable, a lunch with Filet Mignon as your protein is $13.95, and a 'Combination' of two items (Scallops, Salmon, Shrimp, NY Strip), can range in price up to $15.95. Bento Box Specials can be had for about $10, and will include Miso Soup or Salad with Ginger Dressing, White Rice (Fried Rice is $1.50 extra), and a choice of California Roll or Spicy Crab Roll. Two really good lunch deals! Akira also will will pack it to-go for you on some of the lunch specials (obviously not the Hibachi). The cooked Dinner/Ala Carte/Appetizer items are very good also. I've tried the Crab Rangoon, filled with sweetened cream cheese. The Katsu Chicken is always excellent; with crunchy and lean white-meat chicken, it is always fried in fresh oil. Chicken Teriyaki and a number of similar proteins are offered ala carte. Sashimi, Yakitori, and even Fried Oysters are just some of the appetizers to get you started on a great meal journey. If there is any complaint, it's a very minor one. That is, for to-go rolls, Akira should package the rolls with high-domed lids. This is because with some of the larger rolls, it sometimes becomes necessary to have to scrape part of the toppings off the lid. I was going to dock a star for the price point being a little bit high. However, I'm not going to, because the fresh ingredients, the friendly staff, and the clean and spotless space of this restaurant make their food well worth the money. I highly recommend Akira Hibachi and Sushi Bar! Don't be late! FIVE FABULOUS STARS!!!!! 22/100

The restaurant is very small in relation to the seating, especially in regard to the hibachi section. There are (to my recollection) different seating tables in the hibachi room. The dining "tables" are set for 4 patrons on each of the three sides of the "table" and they are actually best sized for 3 people on each side. I was in a party of 4 and the party seated on the side to our left was a party of three and even at that we were crowded in together. It was nearly impossible to move and the room was incredibly noisy. Service - Excellent! Our server was very attentive and our hibachi chef was one of the best that I have ever seen. He was extremely friendly, entertaining and a talented chef. Food - Excellent. I ordered the chicken and shrimp combo which came with onion soup, salad, noodles (something that I had never been served in previous hibachi restaurants), fried rice, and vegetables. The salad was very good and the soup was just OK (pretty much all broth). The shrimp and chicken were both delicious and tender. The fried rice and noodles, both, were as good as any I have had at previous hibachi restaurants. Overall Value - Very Good! The prices are reasonable and the portions large. The quality of the food was great. If not for the crowd dining area, this would have been a 5 Star dining experience.

I had the chance to share a great meal at their Lithia location with Jenn and Mags from the @Riverview foodies and @Fishhawk foodies. The menu has plenty of options ranging from more traditional sushi and sashimi to less traditional options like fried sushi rolls and crab stuffed jalapeño poppers! It's a great place for sushi lovers to be able to dine with their 'I don't like raw seafood' friends, with lots of choices for both. I love raw fish but for those who don't, I highly recommend the spicy crawfish roll. The cajun seasoned crawfish inside is something I wouldn't have thought of as a sushi ingredient but it's GOOD! My favorite part - they'll gladly customize anything on the menu for you, including modifications to make your meal safely gluten free. (They even have gluten free soy sauce - just ask!). The portions are big and the dessert options will hit the spot for even the sweetest sweet tooth. Our server Alexis was patient and attentive, and the sushi chef, Tyler, was happy to answer all of our questions. The vibe inside is fun and laid-back. There's obviously a Rock n Roll theme with guitars on the walls and TVs showing music videos. They keep the music loud enough to be enjoyable but not loud enough to hinder conversation. Even the bathrooms fit the vibe (and were clean!) - think: glitter snow leopard wallpaper and neon signs. Under new ownership and the management of the lovely Melany, the Lithia location not only offers an enjoyable dining experience but also has a patio with games and kids activities and a full calendar of events like themed evenings (hello, 80's night!) and paint and sip or yoga on the patio. If you're looking for a place to have a working lunch, this one fits the bill for that too - even having multiple USB charging ports and outlets at each booth. Stop by and give them a try, you'll likely leave full and happy!
