I finally hit Aki Sushi yesterday and wow was I impressed. My server was absolutely awesome explaining the menu and lunch specials. I went with the yellowtail roll with miso soup for $11.95. I could taste the freshness of the fish and the miso soup was delicious as well. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other rolls. I highly recommend this place. Keep rocking Aki read more

Several people have told me that Aki had good sushi - we tried it finally a few days ago. Located in strip mall and nothing fancy atmosphere. It's actually nicer than what I anticipated. Let me tell you the sushi is definitely delicious -- everyone in our party of 5 was extremely happy with their appetizers, salads, and sushi rolls. They were more than willing to change some of the ingredients in a few of our roles because of dietary restrictions. Our server was very attentive. However, the only semi-negative is that the food from kitchen and sushi bar was a little slow to arrive at table....but worth the wait. This definitely will not stop us from visiting again soon. I stopped in here a couple of months ago for the second time. I forget the place is there honestly. I don't drive up that part of Tampa Road very often. But I have been left satisfied both times. I don't think it would replace my main sushi place, Sakura. But the food here is fresh (something that may not matter to you as much at a bar but definitely at a sushi place!) and the service was friendly. The only drawback I would mention is that both times I went at lunch and both times the place was in need of tidying up. There was food left on the table we were sat at and on the floor. First time there and there were three other tables and everyone got on the house items except for us (no birthdays just on the house). I presented the yelp offer and she acknowledged it then still charged us. The sushi was not great because of the combinations of items not supposed to be in the same roll together. They also do not use straws for their glasses which is gross. The tabke was sticky and the woman owner that was waiting our table was a a bit rude towards the end of the meal. We were quiet and didnt complain the whole time so not sure where that came from but to watch every other table recieve free items and it being our first time, i expected the same treatment, but I wont be back. Overall experience wasnt pleasant and the sushi is way overpriced. Barely put any fish ot was stuffed with lettuce ... who puts lettuce on traditional sushi? read more

My family and I visited Aki Sushi last Friday based on a friend's recommendation. We were looking for a good place to try sushi, because we had never eaten it before. We tried the Veggie spring rolls, the Rock and Roll sushi and a set of veggie sushi rolls, with a rangoon crab puff appetizer. All were very tasty and served fresh. Out favorites were the rangoon crab appetizer and the Rock and Roll sushi. The saki we ordered was served hot and hit the spot. We are now sushi fans, and can't wait to go back to Aki Sushi again. Update: We visited Aki the following Friday evening and had the Crunchy Roll and the Rock and Roll sushi. Both were awesome. The servers checking in with us took our order. The entrees arrived in a timely fashion but my daughter's order of spring rolls was missing, because the server forgot to enter that part of the order. My little girl was hungry and in tears when the spring rolls finally arrived. The server apologized for the confusion and took the spring rolls off our bill. Our order of a crab rangoon appetizer was also forgotten, and ultimately brought out with our entree. The service knocks my review down by one star. In summary, the food is awesome but the service could be a little better. Aki Sushi should hire at least one more server during busy evenings. read more

Small place but the best Sushi around. The owners is the nicest and sweetest lady and her staff is so friendly and nice. If you like spicy the El Diablo roll is to die for. But you can't go wrong with the Red Dragon, Roman Holiday, Screamer, Candy Cane, I could go one forever. read more

Stopped in on a complete whim for lunch on a work trip while on my way back to the airport. Had a 2 roll lunch special and a beer. The food was perfectly prepared and extremely fresh and flavorful. How shall I start this review.... Hmmm well first off I am going to say this I AM NEVER GOING BACK. First off I get there and its not that busy so i`m like okay I got here before the friday crowd comes rolling in. There were 2 people who walked in before me so it would make sense that they would be served first. I know that their Happy Hour ends at 6 but geez did they have to make it so obvious. The server was like oh you only have 3 minutes so order fast, I was like dang. So then I ordered the California Roll, Kamikaze Roll (Happy Hour Menu) and the Spicy Tuna (Non Happy Hour) with a side of miso soup. The lay-out kind of out dated and a tad grungy but I figured it would be great hole in the wall sushi place. Prices were pretty expensive even for happy hour. The cali roll was like a dollar cheaper, WOW one whole dollar.... I got such a great deal on that!!! Miso soup tasted package and not cooked fresh, california roll eh, kamikaze roll no different then the cali roll besides the fact it had fried fish on top but my favorite was the spicy tuna. You have to start out with the basic stuff when you try something new, if the basics aren`t great then you know the rest of the food isn't either. Now here is where the one star comes down.... First off the sanitation is omg awful, the jars for the soy sauce feel like they haven`t been wiped down in months, ewwww!!! Then I want to assume is the manager but again i`m assuming comes over to where the sushi guy is so at the bar pretty much if you`ve ever been to a sushi place and place his hands, grabs one of the wasabi balls and puts it on a small plate then serves it to a customer, the server did the same thing with the ginger. Like omg seriously I`m right there watching the whole thing. Use a fork, spoon, chopsticks, something but not your dirty hands. The wasabi and ginger is out in the open with no wrap over it so all the air bacteria is getting to it. The guys in the kitchen don`t wear aprons or whatever and seem confused. I was only asked once how I was doing, oh then when i`m about to leave the server had the nerve to ask me oh do you want water after how long my glass was empty. It`s truly sad and I was certainly disappointed because I read so many good reviews and hoped that this was local hotspot I could go to but I was proven wrong first hand experience. :( read more

I was really excited about this place when I read reviews but I was let down by the sushi. I got it to go, and the crunchy rolls were jammed into a small box with ginger that was not fresh and tasted terrible... I couldn't even eat the ginger. Some of the rolls were falling apart from being smashed into a box that was too small...i ordered the crunchy roll and it was over cooked. The flavor wasn't that great either. The ONLY reason I gave 3 stars was Bc that wonton soup really is prob the best I've ever eaten. This restaurant is only 7 months old but it was outstanding! I met the owner and the head sushi chef and spent 2 hours trying their food and they're originally from Willmantic, CT. Small World. They are a nice husband and wife combo with their 4 year old daughter sitting at the sushi bar doing her homework. We had higher expectations. It was a disappointment especially since we just moved to Oldsmar. First being rushed into ordering an appetizer the minute we sat down. We asked for a substitute to one of the appetizers on the appetizer sampler they gave us something else. Never asked and it was awful. (Shrimp dumpling) Second ordering our sushi rushed again. They took our appetizer plate with things on the plate we planned to eat before asking. To me... The sushi tasted like bleach. On top of all of it the huge spotlight shining in on your face could be covered with some blinds which they have everywhere else but what is needed for the customers. Over all bad experience. I really can't say enough wonderful things about Aki Sushi. I moved down to the Tampa-area in November for a temporary transition, and in the past 8 months, Aki Sushi really has become my home-away-from-home here. I really will miss them all dearly when I leave the area. Beimei and Daniel are kind, attentive owners, Erin is one of the best and sweetest hostesses/servers around and Mike makes truly incredible sushi. Together, they create a warm and open atmosphere for their customers and always do their very best to ensure they are satisfied. The best seat in the house is definitely at the bar, as you get the opportunity to talk to all of the wonderful people noted above (and they surely are all worth talking to). The sushi is incredibly fresh and they literally have one of my absolute favorite sushi rolls I've ever had-- the White Fuji. With escolar, asparagus and a thin slice of garlic, the flavors in that roll just cannot be beat. I've also really taken to the Pink Panther (if you enjoy Krab mix)-- the avocado and thin slice of lemon are really lovely. The Screamer and the Catch 13 are customer favorites, and wonderful choices for those who enjoy a nice spice. If you're looking for something that is tasty, yet very healthy and energizing (always a plus in the Florida heat!), the Ocean Spray bowl is wonderful. It has fresh fish, cucumber, avocado, ponzu, scallions and seaweed salad served over sticky rice. If you enjoy the Ocean Spray, you should also give the Tuna Tower a try-- the mango is an unexpected, yet lovely flavor! Be sure you don't miss Beimei's homemade wonton soup (again, spicy can't be beat if you enjoy spicy things!) or the Krab Rangoon (this one is great if you're in the mood for something fried and delicious). All around 5-stars! When I am back visiting the area, Aki will be the first place I go back to for sure. Thanks to everyone there for making me feel so comfortable and at home. We had the "Spider", the "Kamikaze" and "Flaming Ocean" along with the "Sweet Potato and String Bean Fries" as our appetizer to split. I've been here a couple times and consider it the Best Sushi around. If you are a real fan of sushi and haven't been here yet you must go. Since moving to the area I had tried a number of places that were just OK, and was happy to find Aki Sushi. The only complaint I'd have is that the service was exceptionally slow each time I was there for dinner. I usually appreciate slow service as I find some restaurants serve so quickly you feel rushed out the door. Really good original rolls. The Catch 13 and the white Fugi are my favorite. Catch 13 has thin sliced lemon on top of spicy salmon to really kick citrus into the spices. White Fugi has white tuna which is always a good choice. read more

Ive been meaning to go to this sushi place bec of all.good reviews and its close from my place.Starving as hell but all the good reviews just did not click. It took 30min to get our first order which was miso soup on rice but how hard is that to make? Im sorry but the rice was not even cooked completely 40 minutes passed I asked wheres my order and till then they gave me my second order of shrimp tempura .....but gave me the wrong one. And don't want to be rude I think 40min is enough to.make my sushi since it wasn't even a lot of of people at this time. Yes they did serve my main order after 40min but since I was so upset already didn't bother to.take picture plus the presentation was very poor. I know perhaps I might just got into.wrong day as the table next to me got messed up order as well. Im sure theres room for improvement. Sorry cannot give 5 stars based on experience. Was ready to walk out as orders was forever and nobody bothered to inform me and nobody ask if we ok or not or if we need anything..not even a water.. And my garden roll i think it was called... This is our go to sushi restaurant. The others we have tried in town do not compare to this place. The tuna/salmon nachos are so very good. We haven't met a sushi roll there we haven't liked. My boyfriend's favorite is the white Fugi roll and I must say it's pretty delicious. If you haven't been here you should really make this your next sushi stop. You do tend to wait a while for your food, but it's worth the wait. So just go in there expecting it will take a while and you won't be disappointed. read more
