Akami Sushi & Grill was a really pleasant surprise in Dawsonville. I honestly did not expect to find a sushi spot this good on the north side of Atlanta, but this place absolutely delivered. First off, full transparency: I am NOT some sushi expert. I'm not going to pretend I can break down every fish and technique like a professional critic. What I can tell you is simple -- I grabbed sushi, put it in my mouth, and it was yummy yummy in my tum-tum. That's my expert analysis. But seriously, the sushi was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You really do eat with your eyes first, and everything coming out of the kitchen looked excellent. The rolls looked clean, colorful, and well made without being overloaded. Add in the soy sauce, wasabi, yum-yum sauce, and the whole experience just worked. The gyoza was an excellent starter. Nice crisp on the bottom, soft on top, and the sauce paired with it really well. We also tried the Beef Tataki. Flavor-wise, it was good, but I do wish the beef had been a little more tender. Personally, I'd probably skip that dish next time, but honestly this is a sushi restaurant, so I'm not going to hold one beef appetizer against them when everything else was very strong. The chicken tonkatsu with fried rice was excellent. Super crispy breading, juicy chicken, and the sauce on top tied everything together really well. Next time I actually want to try the pork cutlet because they clearly know how to fry food properly. Service was A+. Spencer took care of us and was a gentleman from beginning to end. Friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The inside of the restaurant deserves its own paragraph because they did an AMAZING job with the design. It's modern, spacious, clean, and honestly feels much more upscale than you'd expect in Dawsonville. The booths and tables are roomy, we never felt cramped, and the whole atmosphere makes it feel like a great date-night spot or somewhere you can actually relax and enjoy dinner. Pricing varies depending on the sushi rolls. Some are around $13 while others go into the $15-17 range depending on what you order, which honestly feels pretty normal for quality sushi these days. Also, one final important detail: When you leave, grab one of those little guava candies by the entrance. I'm telling you right now, those things are ridiculously good. Plenty of parking too since it's right there by the North Georgia Premium Outlets area. Overall, very happy with this place and definitely one of the better surprises I've had in Dawsonville in a long time. We'll absolutely be back. And yes... all of this was enjoyed properly with a Coke Zero because they are a Coca-Cola spot. PS: They gave me a membership rewards card that helped me save about 8 bucks Accumulate points as you continue dining in read more

Love Akami! Our go to place in Dawsonville for sushi! Food is great, service is attentive, ambience is nice.

First time visit to this wonderful restaurant. We were very pleased, starting with a lovely decor on the interior, followed by some great service. The real treat is the food: We had all kinds of Sushi, all of it delicious. And the presentation is first class, absolutely beautiful. We liked our first round so much, we ordered an Akami Special roll, and it is spectacular. We will be back, as this is our closest (still 40 minutes away) Sushi place. Highly recommended. read more

Presentation, Service, food quality , Ambiance - this place has everything you could want in a restaurant. We started going when they opened and have made this our regular night out. I love the wait staff - they know my order and always make sure we have everything we need. From sushi to hibachi to dessert, everything is fresh and delicious and beautifully presented. read more

Had food delivered it was not hot and the filet was overcooked. Noodles were bland as was the fried rice. Won't order from here again!

I visited Akami Sushi & Grill two days in a row and I'm happy to say, they're my new go-to Japanese restaurant. The service is nice... everyone's friendly. I have to remember to take photos of the inside during my next visit. I ordered the chicken Yaki Lo Mein with onions and it was good. The next day, I ordered the Lovely Roll and chicken fried rice with onions. Everything was tasty, my only complaints are, I wish they hadn't put the sushi rolls in the same bag as the fried rice. The rolls were warm and by the time I got home the seaweed was really chewy so I had to remove it. It would be nice if they had a spicy fried rice option as well, like the Japanese restaurant I always went to before finding them. I highly recommend this establish and glad it's in Dawsonville. read more

Akami - Teriyaki steak! Amazing - Sushi Bars Near Me - Dawsonville, Georgia

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. They had just opened this location a couple of weeks ago and hasn't had a lot of advertising BUT it should definitely be on the map! The service was excellent, the ambiance was fun and bright but the music was odd. Straight up rap music was a bit strange but it was definitely...entertaining? Now, on to the food. They have a wide range of sushi to choose from as well as an hibachi menu. The food was excellent. Freshly made sushi by a sushi chef and it didn't take forever. The prices are excellent as well. They have quite a bit to choose from and if you go at lunch they have smaller portions if you like. I will definitely be back and telling my friends about this place! read more

If someone says they are allergic to garlic and onion but you put teriyaki sauce on it I'm truly questioning if you have the right cooks in place. Thank goodness I test the food before giving it to my family because had I not you would have been liable. read more

my rooks tasted fishy and one roll was not delivered as per the menu description. i contacted them told them my review and they did nothing. I just move here from Atlanta. it's my fault for trusting a google rating considering the lication. Publix sushi is probably better even though I've never had it. I'm tired of spending money on sub quality food. do not order from here if you expect clean high quality food read more

Half of menu items were not available. Ordered sushi. Seaweed in sushi roll was slimey. Server was unaware of what was available on the menu. Server did not offer a refill on drinks. This is my main go to place in the area. They have a good lunch sushi menu where you can bundle sushi for a set price. The inside is trendy and the staff is friendly. read more

Watched my sushi sit for 30+ minutes in the bar that they tried to deliver fresh. When I called them out and demanded a new serving the chef argued with me. The place has potential but I will wait on them to get it together before coming back. There was a table next to us that sent their hibachi order back two times due to not being fresh. Sushi needs to be fresh. No options! read more

We LOVE this place. They have vegetarian sushi options that are safe to eat during my pregnancy which has been amazing. We order takeout and dine in all the time. There was once out of our many visits that we had an issue with the way they split the bill but they rewarded us a gift card discount for our next visit for the hassle. Again, 10000/10 will recommend. read more
