Treasure Box
Ryan S.

Came here for dinner because I wanted to try the treasure box! The restaurant is very nicely decorated, and the main seating area is around the sushi bar. The treasure box is similar to a chirashi bowl, but with all of the ingredients cut into cubes. Overall, I enjoyed the dish, but I have to say that a lot of the cubed pieces were avocado. The uni shooters we ordered were also pretty good. It is not the best uni, but you get what you pay for with 2 shooters for just $18. The service here was excellent, the staff are very attentive and friendly.

Came here for the $105 luxury omakase and honestly, it's worth considering for the amount of food you get. We had 21 courses, which was a lot. I was completely stuffed by the end. The progression had a nice mix of appetizers, hot dishes, and nigiri, and the overall fish quality was solid. Everything tasted fresh for the most part, though the uni leaned a bit bitter compared to the rest. I was especially excited about the chawanmushi (one of my favorites), and while it was included, the portion felt a little small. I definitely would've loved more of that. One feature I really enjoyed was the encore round at the end, where you can order an extra piece of your favorite. Some selections have a small $5 upcharge. Such a fun touch. Dessert was matcha ice cream, but the matcha flavor didn't really come through for me. The ambiance was nice and clean, making for a comfortable dining experience overall. Definitely a filling and satisfying omakase option.

My friend chose this place and it was a good choice. Some sushi pieces were a bit on the fishy side for us, but overall, my experience and the food were wonderful. The service was great. The staff was respectful and polite. The place was cozy and clean and not too busy. We both got the Luxury Omakase. It came with 21 courses. We weren't planning on eating that much food, but when the waiter told us about it, YOLO. Our bill for two people was $272.52. It included the Luxury Omakase x 2, two Cokes, and a 20% tip.

My friend and I frequent Akafuji for their omakase, and their quality remains unmatched. Reservations for dining at their sushi bar are a must! You can probably grab them the same day if you have just a party of two, but will obviously want to call ahead if you're coming with a big group. We usually order their starting tier for omakase and it's just the right amount of food. My favorites in the past have been their ootoro nigiri, blackened miso cod nigiri, A5 wagyu nigiri, and ootoro rice bowl. In the past, I've ordered their soft shell crab appetizer, but found it on the oilier side, and thus didn't enjoy it as much. At the end of the omakase, they also offer an "encore" where you get to choose the course you liked the most and receive it free of charge. This is the only restaurant I've ever seen that does something so generous, so big ups to them on their hospitality! The staff are very friendly and parking is generally available right in front of the restaurant, despite the lot being shared with multiple other restaurants. It's a quiet and quaint spot, which is an introvert's dream. I will say that the sushi chefs don't interact with you much compared to other omakase experiences I've had, so that's something to keep in mind if you're looking for that kind of meal. All in all, I will be returning and sharing this spot with all of my friends and family for years to come!

Hidden gem and super affordable omakase. Lunch omakase was just only 60 and had a lot of different courses. The fish was fresh and great and we both loved the Japanese Uni. The service was great and we loved the restaurant. Great place to date and enjoy the omakase together.

We made a reservation for their Valentines Day Omakase Special and was seated promptly! The atmosphere was quiet and welcoming, and the server was very attentive in clearing our tables or refilling sides/waters. I wasn't sure what to expect for my first omakase but this was a delightful meal! Every bite was well thought out and expertly made on the spot by the chefs. Whether it was the perfect smoky sear or buttery texture, each course was delicious and paired amazingly. There was a hiccup in our orders for the encore dishes (the wrong courses were ordered) but John came by to sort it out and we were pleasantly surprised by how accommodating they were!

Akafuji was delicious, and the sushi tasted incredibly fresh. I ordered a few hand rolls, some bluefin sushi, and a couple of rolls, and everything was well prepared and full of flavor. The quality of the fish really stood out, and you can definitely tell they use fresh ingredients. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and I'll definitely be coming back.

Wow. Found a new hidden gem! Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Store is clean, restroom clean and smell good, food and service is top notch. Price and value 5/5 I did the $105.00 omakase "luxury omakase" worth every dollar honestly. 16 courses; 20+ plates and bowls. I was in food heaven. Here is what I got today: Miso soup Salad Cucumber salad Yellowtail belly sashimi Oyster with caviar and abalone with intestine paste Monk fish liver *All courses are great and no dip required! None of the fishes taste too cold to the touch, smooth and full of natural flavors. Tuna sushi Japanese steamed egg (mushroom, mild to taste) Black cod sushi (fatty, buttery, torchy, melts in mouth ;best piece) Sea bream sushi A5 wagyu sushi (torched, fatty, full flavors) Dungeoness crab and bay crab Halibut sushi (bouncy, soft, velvet texture) Kanpachi sushi (Japanese amberjack; but more crunchy than the halibut; mild, clean flavors) Scallop sushi (unlike cooked scallop, flavor is mild and Gentle) Otoro sushi (super creamy and melts in the mouth feel and full of flavors of tuna; one of the best pieces) Uni half hand roll (super full creamy buttery flavor topped on rice and it is a perfect bite) Mixed tempura (kabocha squash, shosito pepper, shrimp, hand crafted, freshly fried; so good!) Blue crab hand roll (full of flavor; deep rich handrolp to end your meal) Encore sushi (pick of your choice!) I got Uni Fish soup! Rich in fish flavors, chopped green onion pieces gives it fresh and crunch, very hot! Must wait a few mins before drinking. Seasoned just RIGHT, it's a hit even though it's soup. Cheese cake dessert Tamago dessert Thank you John for all of your service, answers and food recommendations, I felt like I dined at a Michelin grade restaurant today! You all are amazing! This is not just "another" basic sushi restaurant. Come try!!

WOW what an amazing omakase experience. The outside of the restaurant looks unassuming and the plaza it is located in is a little eerie especially late at night but don't let that fool you. We opted for the omakase luxury menu- the quality of fish you get for the price is a steal! Each piece is thoughtfully prepared, seasoned perfectly and the chef goes at your pace (I'm a really slow eater compared to my partner and the rate at which my courses came out was adjusted accordingly). Service was great and the ambiance in the restaurant is a little bit small and cozy but there is still enough room between each party for an intimate experience. I also love the lighting which was perfect for taking photos of your omakase experience. I would happily go out of my way to dine here again.

My girlfriend and I were getting pedis nearby and had a craving for handrolls. We found this spot on Yelp bc her usual joint was closed on Monday. The restaurant is really well lit & has a nice ambiance. There wasn't many people on a Monday. While the server did forget a couple items we ordered (repeated twice but he's brand new so it's ok), the dishes we got were pretty tasty. Everything was very fresh and good, but we'd both say all the dishes lack something to make it truly special/hit the spot. I think if we could taste the truffle ponzu sauce more, it would add complexity to the flavors. Still a great meal. I did see how affordable the omakase was & would be willing to try it out if we're ever in the area again.

Megan S.

got the omakase and we found it being worth it for the price. every fish was cut well, and so fresh. it leans into the more traditional taste of omakase with its highlight on the freshness of the seafood. the lychee sorbet at the end was one of my favorite parts of the meal.

Ask the Community - Akafuji - Sushi

Hi, could you please let me know if reservations are accepted for the omakase bar seating, or is it strictly walk-in only?

Yes they take reservations!

Can I order a take out?

Hi yes you can !

If I want to do omakase do I have to make reservations?

No you do not need a reservation for omakase.

This place is marked as having outdoor seating. Is it still available?

Yes, there is a small space outside that is covered, although more seating is in inside I believe. I honestly prefer sitting at the island counter and getting sushi directly from the chef. 😊

If one or more party members has an allergy do we let them know in the reservation or when seated?

You can let the restaurant know, but usually sushi will say you're on your own when you take raw fishes because it has bacteria

Do they still have their HH menu?

No Happy Hours here

For the omakase, does the nigiri get served one at a time?

Yes

Do they have AYCE?

No, they don't.

What time are you open? And menu?

We're open Tuesday-Sunday 5pm-9pm and Friday-Sunday 11:30am-2pm. You can check out our menu through the Yelp pictures or on our website, https://akafujirestaurant.com/
