The fish was incredibly fresh--every piece practically melted in my mouth. The salmon and tuna were standout favorites, with rich flavor and perfect texture. Their specialty rolls were creative without being overcomplicated, and everything was beautifully presented. Service was also excellent--friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They gave great recommendations and made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. The place also looked very cute and clean.

Holy cow! I've walked past Aka Sushi every time I've gotten a haircut for the past 15 years. I finally noticed their 4.5 stars on Yelp and 4.8 on Google, and figured I owed them a shot. They passed the visual inspection at the sushi prep bar, so I cautiously started with some yellowtail sashimi. It was fresh and delicious. They've got the classic Japanese beers, brewed in Italy and the US, of course, but still felt authentic. I dove into the White Dragon roll, and it was so good I had to try the Sexy Mama roll too, even though I was full. Guilty of judging a book by its cover (next to a dry cleaner), but Aka blew me away. Not just the best sushi in the area; some of the best I've had in years, across several states.

We went to Aka sushi with a group and sadly it wasn't my favorite! The service was good but I thought the food was a little bland with what I got, but others said their dishes were extremely spicy. It seems like there wasn't a lot of consistency. The gyoza in particular was a little disappointing in that it didn't have much taste; I don't expect a lot from just a cucumber roll ha. I will say that the scallion dumplings were delicious and I would order them again. It was mostly just fried cream cheese as there wasn't a lot of scallions from what we could tell but they were good.

Food & service were good. So far the best sushi in this area. They have good specially rolls. We really liked Hawaiian Roll, I would recommend the restaurant to be more family friendly with sushi names.

Aka Sushi is a Korean-owned sushi restaurant located in the Bristow Center. It's a smaller place, and it gets busy during the lunch and the dinner rush. The menu is pretty extensive, offering various appetizers (gyoza, Aka Ball, Ika Tempura, etc.), soups, salads, sushi, rolls, lunch and dinner specials, and desserts. If you look around the sushi bar, there are also specials posted. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +nigiris (which comes in 2) - toro, sake belly, and botan amaebi +the Bob Roll - filled with grilled eel, avocado, cucumber, and crunch, topped with spicy salmon and sauce +the Captain Crunch Roll - filled with shrimp tempura The sushi was fresh, and I actually preferred the nigiri more than the specialty rolls. Some of the toro pieces were a little 'wet', though, so I wished these were patted down before the send off. Prices are definitely on the higher end, and note that as other sushi places, there are some options that are of market priced. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Came here for dinner with a bridal party recently and enjoyed a decent meal. The one thing I will say is that the photos of the space make it look a lot more elegant than it is. This is clearly a restaurant that does most of its business in takeout and Uber eats, because the interior is definitely showing its age. The service was prompt and friendly. We had 10 people and no one had any issues with their order which is always impressive. I opted for one of their pre-made sushi orders (I think it was A) and it came with a good selection of different rolls so it was almost like a personal mini sushi buffet. If I lived nearby I would definitely order takeout from them on the regular!

I ordered the Tako Yaki and the 3 roll lunch special to go. Tako is pretty tasty, it wasn't as crispy as I wanted it to be but the flavor is there. Their lunch special rolls are generic, their lunch special selection is not wide as other places. The California roll was decent, but their tuna and salmon roll was really lacking. I didn't like how pale the color of the salmon was. It didn't look fresh at all. The miso soup that came with the meal was saltier than usual. The color of the soup kinda looks like soy sauce was used or it could be they used a dark miso paste but regardless, it was salty. Overall it was meh for me, I have had better sushi with more variety to choose from, especially with the lunch special. This isn't really a lunch special if it's $14+ bucks for some plain jane sushi.

The 4 rating is because the decor is boring and strip-mall like. For the price, I wanted more ambiance. We were a party of 4 on a Wednesday evening. We were seated right away and greeted like old friends. We ordered Aka balls, house salad, seaweed salad, and two of the combo platters. The sushi was among the best I've had. The rolls were creative and flavorful and the fish and vegetables were very fresh. Overall, It was an awesome sushi experience. Highly recommend.

Aka sushi has the best and the freshest sushi in the area ! Fun fact ... I've never dined in , but I still get excellent service ever time ! They are always so quick and so friendly ! It's yummy and the same every time , I live about 35 minutes away and I never mind the drive for delicious sushi !

This is a very solid Sushi restaurant and a great addition to the area's restaurants. They are very friendly and the service is great. It's really just Sushi though, don't expect a wide range of other Japanese food. No Bento box lunch specials either. read more

Wow. Got more than I expected at Aka Sushi. This little gem is located in a developing neighborhood shopping mall and is clean both inside and out! The place itself had a good blend of Asian fusion inside with American background music and spacious seating, and great staff that made sure to accommodate accordingly. I had their large sushi boat which featured 3 different kinds of rolls, and a plentiful variety of both nigiri, and sashimi. As well as one of their combination roll platters. The sashimi was cut very generously and was quite tasty. The portions were incredibly large and was more than enough for a hungry family of 4. Rolls were thoughtfully filled with lots of fish and sauce. Was very surprised by the level of service and food and would definitely recommend to my friends and family. read more

Simply amazing! I stopped by here on a weeknight for a casual dinner with some friends and we were all really impressed with the food and service here. For the first course, we were served an appetizing salad with some delicious dressing. My friends and I marveled at how yummy the dressing was and how we thought it was a peanut-based dressing. After confirming with the waitress, we learned that it was a sesame dressing without any use of peanuts! For those with peanut allergies, do not be misguided and definitely try the salad with its dressing - it was truly one of a kind. After the salads, a warm and comforting bowl of miso soup followed. I enjoyed this particularly more than other miso soups as it didn't taste watered down at all and the miso flavor wasn't too overwhelming either. Now for the main course! The sushi was phenomenal. We had a bunch of the rolls, salmon, tuna, whitetail, shrimp, and so so much more. Everything tasted so fresh and the marbling on the salmon in particular was very impressive for this area. The cuts of sushi were very thick and flavorful, not bland like other sushi restaurants I've tried. Best sushi I've had hands down in NoVA/Bristow. Maybe I'm being too critical and ordered the wrong things, but after reading all of the positive reviews about this restaurant, I was super excited to try this sushi place; however, I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the sushi was super fresh, but I found it to be kind of bland. I got a spicy tuna roll, a captain crunch roll, and the house salmon roll. The only one I enjoyed was the house salmon roll, which was pretty good. Not sure that I will return here, but probably will since it's one of the only options in the area! read more

Excellent. The rice - which is the entire point of sushi, and often the worst ingredient at most other places in Virginia - was perfectly cooked. The inari seemed like it could've been homemade. Other rolls and nigiri were equally good if not better. Service was on time and professional. Will definitely return. Recommended. read more

Good! The sushi here is really good. Enjoyed the Captain Crunch roll very very much and would get it again. I would also like to try other rolls to see how they compare. It's amazing to watch how sushi is prepped. It's like watching art unfold in front of you. Really amazing in fact when you take the time to really see it from start to finish, which you can do here. I got 3 rolls today, the John Roll and the Crazy Roll as well. They all were very good and would get them again. The size of the sushi helps too. I didn't like the presentation though. For takeout I honestly expected better, but it wasn't as bad as I've seen other places do it. Remember, its sushi, so the prices will be higher than you would normally expect, but I would definitely expect to order here again, maybe even tomorrow? Who knows. The staff is really friendly as well. read more

I lived in Centreville / Fairfax area for 15 years and have visited this place for the first time due to friends recommendations. I can safely say that this place will be my favorite Sushi place in the NOVA region. Sashimi was fat and DANK - means amazing. My grandma who is extremely picky ended up eating 80% of the dish herself. Thank you Aka sushi! read more

Stopped in here from DC, before a show at Jiffy lube live. Strip mall sushi joints can seem kinda ..eh...but this place was really delicious! Service was very friendly and attentive, the flavors of the specialty rolls were very dynamic, the nigiri tasted tender and of good quality, and the portions were quite large compared to other places, which I'm all for. Im a bit of a sushi snob, and I would definitely come to this place again which says a lot, for me! read more

My mom, sister, and, I have been coming to AKA for 7 plus years after a friend recommended it. This is our favorite sushi in NOVA we always get the "Kenny," the "John," and lots of tuna avocados to go around. Very fresh fish, very friendly staff, and very clean. Yum. Yum. Yum. Don't be fooled by their basic exterior and standard sushi pictures on the window. They have a huge selection of specialty rolls as well as the basics. We ordered 4 rolls and 2 small appetizers and couldn't be happier with our experience. The platter came to the table full, fresh and beautiful- and turned out to be delicious. Personally, I enjoyed it all and will most definitely return! They do a booming takeout business based on how many folks we saw waiting for take out or coming in for pick ups. I was in the area and was seriously craving some sushi. I went ahead and did a quick search on yelp and found this location. What a happy find! The sushi was perfect, they had a good variety of rolls and specials. The staff and service was fantastic. I brought my niece with me and she was a bit of trouble. She spilled a cup of water everywhere. Our waitress didn't mind and helped cleaned up the water. She insisted it was fine and had a smile on. Overall a lovely place to go for sushi. read more

Order Sushi from here about twice a month. Never actually ate at the location. Sushi is not the best I have ever had but it is definitely the best sushi I have found in the area. Would give 5 stars but pick up time is usually over 1 hour wait. I understand that's a good thing for them but wish they could find a way to server a little quicker. read more

The staff was excellent! They were really nice and hospitable, offering social distancing and plastic film in between tables to ensure their customers' safety. The food was served fast as well. The prices were very reasonable, and me and my boyfriend ordered a lot of sushi only coming out to $56. We ordered a volcano roll (4 pieces), crazy roll (8 pieces), spicy salmon roll (6 pieces), Godzilla roll (6 pieces) and the dream boat roll (6 pieces), 4 of which being special rolls as well as takoyaki for our appetizer. The sushi was good but the service was very disappointing. I had ordered take out sushi before and really enjoyed it so I was so excited to take my friend that was visiting from out of town. When asking the the waitress about the menu she seemed annoyed. I had to ask several times for ginger. My friend was looking at the placemat on table as the waitress the picking up the menu from Us and proceeded snatch it out of her hand and place back on the table informing us that that is where it belongs. And to top it of they all decided to eat lunch and bring us our check making it clear That we were not to order anything. At the point I prefer To drive a little Towards Fairfax and get good food And service and better pricing . read more

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a bold statement - AKA Sushi is the best Sushi in Northern VA. Every single time I have been here- whether it be eat-in or take-out the sushi is incredible. It is never just "OK", it doesn't depend on who the sushi chef is that day, it is ALWAYS, ALWAYS amazing. No matter what. The fish is fresh, their menu is diverse, and their prices are reasonable. The service is impeccable. The miso soup is the best, only second to their house salad. The White Dragon roll is my absolute favorite on the sushi menu. All-around just wonderful, and you can tell they care about their customers... All reasons why my boyfriend and I dine in here once a week :) read more

Went here for lunch with a good friend of mine who suggested we go since she loves it. 110% amazing; extremely friendly staff, fresh fish/sushi, the kind man also surprised us and gave us a courtesy roll that was soooooo good. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area! read more

And it is made perfectly to order, and we frequently take home a second helping for later. At first, I assumed it was because another group was joining us since there were 3 extra chairs left open, but that wasn't the case. The restaurant was empty aside from one other table that had arrived before us, so the situation felt unnecessary and frustrating. Unfortunately, the food experience was disappointing as well. As soon as the chef placed the shrimp, lobster, and chicken on the grill at the same time, I had a feeling the seafood would end up overcooked -- and it did. The lobster and scallops had noticeable burn marks, the shrimp was overcooked, and the steaks were not cooked correctly either. Two people ordered medium steak, but both were cooked at the same time, and one was left on the grill longer than the other, causing inconsistency. Another issue I had was that the chef automatically drenched the seafood in teriyaki sauce without asking first. Personally, I don't enjoy teriyaki sauce, and I think he should have asked us if we wanted sauce on our seafood before pouring it on. When the chef asked how everything tasted, my significant other was honest and said the food was okay but overcooked and burnt in some areas. Our bill ended up being around $400, and because we were unhappy with both the food and service, my boyfriend left a 10% tip and even explained respectfully why he felt the experience did not justify more. To end on a positive note, the baked sushi roll I ordered was actually delicious. However, the drinks were subpar and overall the food did not meet expectations. Unfortunately, this is not somewhere I would return to.
