This little diner in downtown Richmond is oozing with charm. The family-owned business is celebrating the tenth year of service. We stopped in for an early lunch. Breakfast and lunch are served anytime. We sat at the bar because the seven booths were filled - the place is popular and tiny. An ancient safe stands behind the counter. Water cups advertise local businesses. I ordered the soup of the day - Loaded Potato. The soup was filled with potatoes, ham and cheese in a creamy soup base. The soup was hot, delicious and I could tell it was fresh made. My husband had a grilled cheese with fries. The order of crinkle cut fries was generous. His grilled cheese was old school with American cheese on white toast grilled just like mama used to make. The staff is super friendly and checked on us regularly. The food came out very fast. The place has a homey feel. We found free parking on the side of the building, which we entered from a back street. Other people were having breakfast, which looked awesome. Worth checking out. read more

This is a diner and they do diner stuff just fine. I think its rating is a little inflated because there aren't any other decent breakfast places in Richmond. I dock it down to three stars because the burgers are fine but nothing to be excited about. It is usually crowded, the service is good though read more

Great food, great service. Small "hole in the wall" but totally worth it! Would drop back in if ever in the area!

This spot checked all of the classic diner, breakfast boxes. A simple and straightforward menu, no frills, atmosphere, great service, and budget friendly breakfast options all day. I loved the cozy vibe of the booths and the long counter. The staff was super sweet in handling our group of six despite the tables only fitting four. Inn no ordered two eggs with pepper jack cheese added alongside wheat toast and hash browns. All were delicious and exactly what I hoped for -- and only $6-$7 for the meal. The menu also featured pancakes, omelettes and BLTs. Overall, a sweet diner that I look forward to visiting again in the future. read more

Great quick and cheap breakfast. No fancy fluffy stuff just good old breakfast. Omelettes, biscuits and gravy, eggs, toast, bacon

This is the reincarnation of PauLee's but with more space. Best diner in Richmond. I've always been a fan of their biscuits and gravy.

The food is delicious and the employees are very friendly and nice. I had a blt and it was made just right.

Great food biscuits and gravy are delicious The food is amazing. Very good service would recommend this place to everyone for breakfast. This is the place to be. read more

This little place was great! We stopped by while on vacation for breakfast. It has any of your common items like eggs, pancakes, French toast (no grits though). But the service was great! Food was cooked perfectly. Bacon and sausage were fresh and coffee was good. We went back twice while visiting. Will return each year for good solid breakfast. Want to try a burger next time for lunch. read more

I love these locally-owned neighborhood diners! AJ's is that with friendly good service and a "seat yourself" atmosphere and a dining counter. The food was fresh and tasty, the people seemed to know each other. Small town America at its best. Recommend. Still has gum ball machine for kids. read more

Breakfast stop from Ohio back to Indy, just 3 mi s. off exit 165a in Richmond. Cute little diner. About half a dozen counter stools and booths. I got my food to go since I had my dog in the car. Took about 15 min, but was brought out to me with a "thank you, my pleasure" nice service. I got the ham egg and cheese on an English muffin, and a small biscuits and gravy. Seems like I've been ordering these a lot at places lately! Food was plentiful. Muffin was just a tad scorched but not enough that I cared. Tons of ham on the sandwich. I would love to try this with bacon! Biscuits and gravy were also tasty. #yum #ReviewsByRL #NewToMePlace read more

Stopped here yesterday morning for a quick breakfast with a friend on a trip to Ohio. We stopped here because it had four stars on yelp! Those 4 stars were well deserved! The restaurant was busy enough that we sat at the counter. We were greeted immediately and we were able to order very quickly. The veggie omelette we shared was absolutely perfect made fresh and just enough. We both prefer dry toast without butter and it was delivered exactly as we asked and the Ryebread it was toasted was hot & tasty! When traveling this way again will probably stop here again read more

AJ's Diner - Sweet - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Richmond, Indiana

A great little diner! I would eat here again and often if we lived closer. We stopped on our way through Richmond and it was a good experience. Very fair prices. I got a bacon and cheese omelette and you could tell it was made from scratch with fresh ingredients. The staff was friendly and attentive. read more

Aj's has everything my Ron Swanson-of-a-husband loves: simplicity, no-frills, diner coffee, and breakfast foods. It's a seat yourself kinda diner, pick a stool at their bar or a booth. Menus are simple, prices are affordable, and food is cooked to order and fast. We enjoyed a Saturday morning breakfast: Ham & cheese omelet with wheat toast and biscuits & gravy. Add a large OJ and bottomless black coffee and you're looking at less than $15 for two. The waitresses are friendly and the food is hot. Carry out available, as I saw a lot of carry-out orders being picked up. Customers were courteous of wearing masks when coming and going. read more

Nice local diner. We had a good breakfast and enjoyed watching and listening to the locals discuss who was planting what and when. The place isn't large, but we were able to get right in. The test of the morning for us was figuring out how to get into the parking lot, since you can't pull in from Main and we were coming in from the west it took a bit of alley driving. read more

This is an old school breakfast diner. Good honest food with very few frills. Reasonably Priced and great service. Didn't want a chain, just a omelet and a cup of coffee from an small business where you can see the person cooking. I have to be gluten free so I bring my own bread and they toasted it for me - bonus. I was traveling and this place is a couple of miles off of I70 but worth the few minutes drive. Food was really good and I was back on the road full and happy. read more

This is a little obscure breakfast/brunch diner. And it is the perfect spot for both!! I've been trying to find a good breakfast spot in this area and this is it! The pancakes are spot on and the BLTs are yummy! The pancakes are a decent size nice and fluffy with a tender texture. If you are in the area and are looking for somewhere good for breakfast you need to try it out. You won't leave displeased. The service is fast and friendly! Now I want to mention the restaurant is self is small but you shouldn't have to wait too long however. And a tip for hash brown fans they aren't listed under the sides on the menu but you can have them just ask. read more

Great little diner! Fresh ingredients and nice staff! Perfect for breakfast or lunch.

Stopped in for a late breakfast at AJ's. It's a no frills, old time diner with charming brick walls and old time photographs throughout. We had tasty omelets (lots of fillings) that came with nice chewy rye bread and English muffins. Thoroughly enjoyable experience. read more

A staple breakfast/lunch diner. Good food at a good price. The staff is prompt and handle refills quickly. We normally come for breakfast so I cannot speak to lunch. Based on breakfast, I am sure the lunch menu is also quite tasty. read more

AJ's Diner - Biscuits and gravy with an egg. - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Richmond, Indiana

In town to visit family and hit up Yelp to find a breakfast place. Really unclear why this has such high ratings. The coffee tasted like they waved the bag of coffee over the pot, the sausage was half warm and the eggs rubbery.... we also waited almost 40 minutes for two very simple orders. Service was friendly but definitely not worth it. Bad breakfast food should be against the law, sorry AJ's....swing and a miss. read more

A very humble yet agreeable place. Staff was very friendly and prompt. Food surprisingly tasty! We were just passing through and needed a bite. What a pleasant surprise! A keeper! read more

Tiny little diner with decent service and diner food. It was as to be expected and liked the atmosphere. Had to wait but not more than 10-15 min. French toast and eggs were slightly undercooked, but I could eat most of it. Give it a try perhaps the biscuits and gravy would be delish? Don't come here if you are in a hurry, it is short order, and to me that now implies one cook. read more

Nice little diner great food e everyone was really friendly will go back next time I'm in town

I have eaten breakfast here many times & always get the biscuits & gravy which are excellent! The servers are always very friendly & attentive. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's on the smaller size & sometimes there are no booths available. If you are looking for some good biscuits & gravy with excellent service, I would highly recommend this place! read more

Super low key mom and pop diner. Doesn't look the fanciest, but if you dig deeper than the looks you find great employees and excellent food! Has a cute charm to it! Would definitely recommend for breakfast. They have lunch specials, that may be worth checking out in the future! read more

Anytime I come to visit my girlfriend in Richmond, we always stop at AJ's. The staff is incredibly friendly and nice, the coffee is hot and brewed fresh, and the food is delicious. I've been coming to AJs since my first year at Earlham, four years later I'm graduating and this will be the place I miss the most! The owners are so kind and the food is always so good. The last owners gave student discounts so when the new owners took over they still gave me the discount! So helpful. The best breakfast spot in Richmond! read more

Previous owners served delicious food, but the current owners provide bad service and worse food. Everything is prepackaged and over priced.

Happen to be in Richmond this morning. Always look to eat where the locals go. Had a great ham & cheese omelette and my wife had French toast. Everything was delicious! Will definitely return. read more

Open on Sunday's was a big plus and the food I did eat (Coffee, Cheese Omelet, hash browns with dry English muffin) was very good. Husband's choice was excellent as well. Nice and attentive servers. Atmosphere is clean & fresh, a notable change from the previous owners. I no longer worry that I will smell like old cooking grease when I leave. A minor issue is with the Menu which is confusing. Just needs to clearly state descriptions & choices on the menu. Apparently most items are ala carte. But it is not clear when reading it - maybe just confusing to out of towners like me. Don't Omletes or eggs usually include hash browns unless it stars they are ala carte? I didn't see hash browns or potatoes listed anywhere on the menu, even as an option or extra. After I got my plate, I was surprised & then had to ask for them, and waited while my Omlete cooled down. Then I had to wait again because my "dry, unbuttered English muffin" had to be replaced because it came with so much butter, it dripped onto the table when I picked it up. The on the Extras: Meat list "Tenderloin" is listed as a choice... I was going to get the bacon which I know is excellent but was craving some beef & it sounded good... I ordered the "tenderloin" and asked that it be cooked medium rare... I love steak & eggs and was looking forward to a small piece of "beef" tenderloin. What arrived was a pounded (?) flat, white, piece of leather that was so tough & bland, I was unable to eat it. I am sure it was not even a tenderloin cut of pork. Thankfully my husband had ham and shared with me. Overall the service and food, once I got what I wanted, was good and filling. read more

We went for breakfast, and it was so good! Found a spot to sit immediately (it was about 8:30 on a Saturday so maybe that wasn't quite the breakfast rush). We had delicious chocolate/white chocolate chip pancakes; biscuits and gravy; and egg omelette with Swiss and bacon. All of the food was amazing! The service was wonderful and so fast! The price was on point: about $15 for all that food! We would definitely come here again! read more
