From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt authentic and welcoming--simple, traditional, and full of character. It's the kind of place where the focus is on good food, good wine, and enjoying the moment. The food was outstanding. The steak was cooked perfectly, juicy and full of flavor, with a beautiful sear that speaks to real expertise on the grill. Every bite was satisfying. The breaded dishes and sides were generous, comforting, and done exactly the way they should be--nothing overcomplicated, just excellent execution. Paired with good wine, it made for a truly memorable meal. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the service--especially from our waiter Walter. Walter was attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. He made thoughtful recommendations, checked in at just the right moments, and made us feel completely at ease throughout the entire meal. His warmth and care turned a great dinner into an exceptional experience. El Rincón delivers on every level: food, atmosphere, and service. If you're looking for classic Argentine cuisine and service that makes you feel welcome and valued, this is absolutely the place to go. We will definitely be back--and we hope to be served by Walter again.

I had the tomato and eggplant stack with Mozzarella and a little salad. Excellent! Honey had a mini olive pizza which he enjoyed. The entree was of a very good size. I had fish wrapped with veges and potatoes on the side. Again the flavor was super simple, just lemon juice and mustard. Honey had Risotto with Osso bucco pieces. It also had nicely developed flavor but not much meat. The desserts were hot apple strudel and he had fresh chocolate ice cream with candied oranges. There were many others to choose from. This was one of our best meals here. Total cost for each meal was about $20 USD plus we tipped. By the way, when we arrived the restaurant door was locked! We saw people eating, so we knew it was open, but there was no way in. We knocked on the clear glass door, but no one acknowledged us or came to open the door. Sad. We were ready to leave, even started walking away, when someone finally opened the door. A little odd. As we had lunch, we saw many people confused by the locked door. Perhaps they should address the issue with a note on the door?? Anyway, we're glad we got in. Very nice experience.

Fabulous vermutaria in the San Telmo neighborhood…read more They offer all sorts of wines, and various mixed drinks. But you would be out of your mind to leave Cafe San Juan without having their homemade house vermouth. I have had house vermouth all over Spain, where many bars do their own vermouth just on general principles. Nothing comes close to the house vermouth at Cafe San Juan. Vermouth in Argentina (and in Spain) is often served with soda and ice as a form of a spritzer. A good vermouth is designed to let the ice cubes open up the taste. Done right, there should be BOTH the taste of the wine and the taste of the herbs and spices. It is hard to pull the spice elements out of a commercial vermouth such as a Martini and Rossi. Many homemade vermouths do worse rather than better than Martini and Rossi on this key aspect of what makes vermouth vermouth. Cafe San Juan's vermouth has the most powerful spice taste of any vermouth that I have ever had. And it is a suave mellow harmonious full taste. Imagine Mom's apple pie or a savory sauerbraten. Having those flavors show up in a wine is a rarity. Having those flavors work in a wine is an even greater rarity. Cafe San Juan's vermouth does all that. * * * This is a full service restaurant as well as a bar. The food is absolutely outstanding. My wife adored her merluzon (hake in English), with lentils and capers. I had an osso buco to die for. American veal is nearly worthless and our beef is only ho hum. Argentina has extraordinary beef - so getting good veal is not too hard. In an osso buco, the basic meat itself has to carry a lot of the flavor. This veal with veal bone did just fine. As for the tomatoes, anchovies and crispy polenta, all soaked up in veal gravy ... Just say no more. This was happiness on a plate. An appetizer of burrata cheese on a grilled mortadella proves a basic point. Mortadella is Italian bologna. There is no way to get around it. Bologna goes from stupid school lunch sandwich meat to pure divinity when you put the bologna in a saute pan, put it on the stove and give it a char. The same applies even more so for mortadella. Even more happiness on a plate. * * * Still as good as the food may be ... You are here for the house vermouth ... The house vermouth ... The house vermouth ... You will have many fine meat and fish dishes in your time. A legendary vermouth is forever.

The food + vibe + interior + service, everything was amazing. We were thee first reservation and got lucky with a waterview table. We all got the vegetarian tasting menu with no wine pairing. The meal started with a wooden box with their philosophy printed and the menu with the first of the "snacks. We got a total of 5 snacks, smoked green bean with pistachio hummus, carrot multiple ways, green apple with garlic, rice cracker with strawberry and bread with fermented butter. Everything was bite sized, was cooked in numerous diffferent ways (fermented, pickled, sous vide, steamed, roasted, smoked, fried) and was well rounded. My favorite was the green bean with the sorrel+pistachio hummus followed by the textures of carrot. The sourdough was made with dark grains (not wheat) and the butter had an amazing blue cheesiness to it. This was followed by a tomato + almond milk dish. The fermentedd almond milk was my favorite part of the dish. The next was braiseed and roasted cabbage with a mustard cucumber salad and herbs. The cucumber salad was what dominated and carried the dish for me. The next was roasted eggplant + pineapple. The eggplant juice, which was the first press juice of roasted eggplants was something i've never tasted and was genius. It was followed by a surprise course of steamed buns which were cooked to perfection. The next was leek with fresh cheese curds. This was followed by the most amazing onion + mango dish finished with an intensified onion jus. We were next given an option between cheese and dessert course, we opted for dessert. The first was a palate cleanser of frozenn cherries and galangal sorbet. The next was an edible box made of raspberryy and rice filled with yogurt and raspbery mousse, elderflower and textures of raspberry. It was amazing! The last formal course was a traditional Argentine dessert in a modern form. It was pate sable biscuits with sweet potato icecream, quince jelly and some local Argentine cheese. It was a delicious sweet and savory ice cream sandwich. Next we were given a chocolate mousse dome as we were celebrating my birthday. The care taken in the plates for each dish (including a cold stone for the icecream sandwich!) was remarkable. From picking up napkins everytime they fell to filling water, everything was very thoughtful. This meal would have costed a good $1000+ in NYC or SF but was ~$300 here for 3 people. If you have never tried fine dining in US as its too expensive, givve Chila a shot, you won't be disappointed!
