We were in the mood for something new and remembered hearing about Aji Ramen on Facebook. So we ventured to the North East! The place is well decorated, with beautiful Japanese pictures on the walls and a nice sign. I usually don't comment about the music at restaurants but their lounge tunes were really nice; dynamic yet calming. Our server was very attentive and friendly. For our food, we ordered the Spicy Garlic Edamame, the spicy Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen, and the Gyu Don. The edamame was soft and definitely garlicky but not overpowering. The ramen had a very earthy flavor, with perfect noodles, and tasty chashu pork. Neither the edamame or ramen were truly spicy, but they were packed with flavor. The gyu don was delightful with a sweet sauce sauce and a lot of onions. The beef was tender and thin and I wanted more of it. Even though I am not a fan of marinated eggs, these were mild and may have changed my mind about them! Overall, this was the best Japanese restaurant experience we have had. The only things missing were the spice and a bit more of beef on that gyu don, but the whole experience was great. Consistent good food. I miss the previous restaurant budai, but I'm happy aji ramen has taken their place. Beautiful menu with many misspellings. Very nice napkins and place settings. Ramen = delicious seasoned half cooked egg, nice thick noodle with good chew, charshu is thick and is nicely torched or seared, soup is balanced and I'm able to finish. Haven't had ramen is so long and thought of trying this place out! We were seated quickly and the waitress was nice. They have a lot on their menu thats not just ramen. They even offer omakase! I ordered the miso ramen and my friend ordered the Aji ramen. Both were very good. I really liked my broth and the toppings. My friends was also very good. My man ordered a hand roll and was bummed it wasn't wrapped up and came with lots of spicy mayo that wasn't mentioned on the menu. Onto the good stuff! The ramen was pretty dang good. So so thrilled to see a ramen restaurant in the NE Heights neighborhood. Aji took over the space that once was Budai. They did a nice job renovating the space with ample seating both at the tables and sushi bar. We were greeted and seated immediately. We had enough time to review their menu before ordering. We got the black garlic tonkotsu ramen and signature Aji ramen which was seafood based broth. I was impressed with how flavorful the broth was. I was a little disappointed in the chashu, with it being smaller pieces and a bit dry than what I'm used to. Portions were decent for the price! Black garlic was $15 and Signature Aji was $20. I have had ramen in the past, and while I thought it was fine, I really wasn't that excited by it. I thought pho was more flavorful and exciting. Well, Aji has changed my opinion! A friend and I met here for a late lunch. The place is small but fun. There is a small sushi bar and some tables. The server was nice and able to answer questions, but reserved. We tried the spicy edamame for an appetizer. Wow, these were really good! The garlic and spice really seasoned the beans well. Great flavor! For lunch, I had the Black Garlic Tonkasu ramen. The broth is flavored using pork bones. OMG, this was so good! It has a deep, rich flavor and the garlic is nicely balanced. It came with pork, fish cakes, a boiled egg, some seaweed sheets, and bamboo shoots. For $16, it was a good sized serving and absolutely delicious. Based on looks and aesthetics, I was impressed with the quality of furniture. Chairs and tables were solid and had a modern sleek design. Menus were not lamented but rather a great matte quality. Noodles were soft, slightly chewy, and cooked just right. Broth was light while very flavorful resonating with that beef flavor. We ordered the Cowboy roll, firehead roll and the lion king roll. All three were flavorful, had some heat from the jalapeños, and the different fish definitely made each but unique. This was tasty, but a little underwhelming... The Tonkatsu Ramen lacked flavor and as others have mentioned, the termperature was not piping hot. I was okay with that, but if you don't eat quickly, your soup will go cold. The pork was very well-cooked, not dry or tough like other places, and I would be willing to go back and try the version with black garlic cause that would probably add the flavor I was missing. I don't typically eat bamboo shoots, but the ones in the ramen were marinated and delicious! I also prefer chewier noodles. The Tempura Roll was flavorful and better than most in ABQ, but it was cut so wide and thin that it fell apart when we picked the pieces up with chopsticks. I with they would cut them smaller and thicker so you could get all the ingredients in one bite. The knife cuts were excellent though, and like I said, very tasty. My husband didn't love his Yakisoba because it had some curry-type seasoning, which isn't his thing, and a bunch of caramelised onions. I thought it tasted okay, not like yakisoba I'm used to, but tasty. He did say that it was the best cooked chicken he's ever had in a dish like that. The Gyoza had amazing texture and mouth feel, but the filling was a little bland. We'll be back, but it didn't knock us out of the park. The food was amazing. I got the black garlic tonkatsu ramen and my friend got the spicy tonkatsu ramen. Both were very good and I specifically liked the soft boiled egg. Also loved the creamy melon soda. The service was good and food came out fast. It was pretty quiet but lively enough to feel welcomed. Only thing that wasn't great was the constant amount of DoorDashers that were coming in and out but that just shows how good the food was. New Raman shop in town! Came during lunch time and they were busy. Maybe because it's new, but we got seated fairly quickly. Service was pretty good. We ordered the takoyaki and it was delicious! The katsu was decent because the portion was tiny and it comes with miso soup. The curry was little as well. I probably would not get it again. Rolls were yummy though! The lion roll had shredded pork on top and the shrimp tempura on the inside was huge! The Philadelphia Roll was packed with a good amount of salmon. It was perfect. Not too much rice. The Aji Raman was good. It would've been better if the protein was nice and hot as well as the soup. The flavoring was flavorful. Portion was good, but the protein it was kind of cold. Almost as if it was of course pre-cooked already, but they should still head it was. Broth was good, but needed to be heated up more. The ramen was good it was a sea food ramen, we added a pork chasu to it . Ramen's broth was good we ended up adding chili oil to it which did help enhance the broths flavor but which wasn't spicy at all. We started with the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer. The fish was fresh. I got the Tonkatsu ramen. Noodles and toppings were good but the broth lacked flavor. My fiancé got the tonkatsu curry rice. New place that we decided to try based on Yelp postings and we were not disappointed. First off, they have Pepsi products, which was almost a dealbreaker for me, but they had these lovely sodas from Japan, I think, and they were quite tasty. We ordered a sushi roll and the sushi pieces were large and very yummy. We then tried their gyoza and once again they hit it out of the park with the flavor and presentation. The only thing I was a little disappointed about was their yakisoba, they did not use authentic yakisoba. The flavor was flavorful, but when you want yakisoba noodles nothing else with suffice. We ended with their trio of cheesecakes with green tea/mango/vanilla, they are small yet quite filling, so share them!
