I would NOT recommend this place to anyone!!!! The sushi has taken a turn for the worse lately.

Aji is one of my hometown favorites. I'm glad this place opened up, as most (if not all) the other sushi restaurants in the area have become a bit washed up. They also offer delivery which most of the other Japanese restaurants in the area do not. Atmosphere- The atmosphere here is trendy and clean, I enjoy it a lot. However, because of this atmosphere, you do get the "wanna-be's" that come in. But if nothing else, it provides great people watching. Food- The fish is top quality, dine in and take out. They are generous with the amount of fish on/in each roll and I have personally watched the sushi chefs at lunch preparing the tuna, and if something doesn't look right to them, they throw it out. They also have a very unique menu of great specialty rolls, my favorite include Smithtown, Bayshore and Magic roll You will not find many of these combos anywhere else and reasonably priced. Service- Dined here every Friday for about a year and never had much issue with the service. Overall, if you like a nice atmosphere and good sushi you will not be disappointed. read more

This is the BEST Sushi restaurant on Long Island. And these days there are quite a few. The Food is as fresh, delicious and high quality as it gets, pricey but well worth it. Best Sushi in Suffolk County for sure. Been to a few different spots, tried them but I will never go out for sushi anywhere besides AJI 53. It is the bomb and it is consistently amazing. The place comes with a great drink menu as well. Awesome!!! read more

I Would normally give this place 5 stars however, they just lost my business. I ordered on line and had it scheduled to be delivered to my house on my lunch break. I only get 30 Min so i thought perfect idea ill have it waiting when i get home for my mom and i. They first delivered it at 12:35 5 min after i placed the order, which is clearly states 1:30 pm. I call them and they said oh sorry we didn't look at it, well put it in the fridge and deliver it again. Fine just have it there by 1:30 i live 4 Min away mid you. Well i get home its now 1:36 they said the driver was on his way. After they called back they said oh sorry 10 min, he went on another delivery. If you knew prior that you needed to be somewhere at 1:30 why would you go on another delivery? I didn't get to eat lunch, wasted my trip home. They gave me the California roll for free which was warm and no soy source and it was for my Boss. Made me look bad at ruined my lunch. Common sense to look at the receipt when someone is placing the order. Never again will i order on line for my lunch break. Food is good but sadly i don't think i will be returning. NEVER coming back !! So my friends and I have been coming here for years & loving Aji ! I am in the business of working with people so I understand how to talk and treat people . So today we had a lady with short orangey blonde hair . It was like the moment we sat she wanted us out the door ! My brother showed up 5 minutes late and kept coming over to ask what we were ordering . So we ignored that but, everything was being rushed on the table and off . And I guess the lady in front of us asked for sweeteners, so since our waitress was I guess lazy to go to the back and get this lady her own, she took some packets off our table and gave it to her ?? Like do they not have anymore of them !? Again, taking everything off the table & when my mom finished eating, she brought over the check and didn't even ask us if we wanted anything else ? Yes we wanted to our desert but I guess not . She forget my water and lemons, didn't refill my drink at all . Horrible service !! So we paid and as we were walking out, she showed us the tip we left her & rudely asked what am I doing with this ?? Cause it wasn't enough !? The service was horrible, the waitress was use & nothing but rushed & dared tell us its not enough !? No more birthday dinners here, no longer coming here with friends or family, I am very upset & will not be returning ever again . And the lady at the counter just said "okay" didn't even handle the situation well . The owner should teach their employees how to act to customers and how to take care them . read more

Hands down my favorite place for sushi! My boyfriend and I went through most of the special rolls until we found our favorite: Mango Madness and the Smithtown roll. Both are really good, but the mango madness is out of this word. We have never had a bad meal at aji and it will stay our go to for a long time read more

Been here years ago for my birthday for dinner and drinks before going out and it was a great time ! I remembered the chicken teryaki, yaki udon and sushi was very good. Their special cocktails were uniquely named and delicious ! Problem is it's far from my home so that's why I haven't been back until recently on a whim while being out in the Stonybrook area. Went here the other night with my boyfriend. I had two Eiffel Tower cocktails which was a mixed drink with champagne and puréed strawberries. It was amazing. My boyfriend had one of the martinis that was equally amazing.. We ordered the calamari which were thinly sliced and perfectly crispy.. The dipping sauce was alright, I've had better.. My boyfriend had the chicken and vegetables teryaki that he enjoyed and I ordered the yaki udon with veggies. I usually order soba noodles when I go out for Japanese; they're thin noodles, easy to eat.. Udon noodles are very very thick and I personally don't like them over soba. However surprisingly they didn't have soba noodles on the menu. So I settled for the yaki udon, and it was still really good. The place was packed, very trendy, modern ambiance, music was loud but not too loud and the staff was friendly. However the girl at the bar was slow at making drinks. Took some time to get my second drink. But all in all I would recommend and make a trip out there again. read more

Very good! I had a soup, Nakeda (sp?) Udon. It was very good as was the dessert, the mango sorbet. It's also very clean and spacious.

Came here on Tuesday, and I've already r-booked for tonight. Walked in and the ambiance was very cool. The other reviewer is correct in his comparison to Four in Melville. It is located in a strip mall, which at first gave me pause. (I don't know why, but in my mine, the more "stand-alone" a place is, the more points for "trendy" I give it. When I walked inside though, i was quite happy. A nice open lounge/bar area when you first walk in, that is not too large to make you feel like you are part of the masses. I sat and ate at the bar with friends the first night. The bartender was a cutey in a one piece black mini that naturally always pleases me. However her ability to mix drinks was excellent as well. No skimping on the alcohol. The Spicy tuna rolls I ordered came out quickly despite it getting crowded as 7 pm came closer. The tuna was fresh and tender, and the roll was put together in the way that you know care was put into it rather than, '"its crowded, just tube up the fish and get the dishes out!" mentality you sometimes see. I'll be anxious to see what tonight's table service will bring, as well as what type of crowd will attend on a Thursday night. I'm sure it will be good though. read more

By far my most fav place EVER!! The whole scene, the decor, the STAFF, the soundtrack playing, and of course the food n drinks are amazing!! I make it a priority to get there at least 2 times a week. Happy hour is the perfect treat after my work day. Lunch special is a large portion for a small price. I received a mailing which advertised lunch special roll 2 for $8 or 3 for $11, or a lunch box for $11. When seated the special prices were a dollar more. The waitress did not speak enough English to even to discuss the price difference. I wish I brought the mailer with me but there wasn't any coupons so I didn't think I needed it. A wonderful lunch spot in Smithtown. The service is welcoming, the salads that accompany the lunch specials are consistently fresh and flavorful, and the sushi itself is refreshing. The sushi platters for two are recommended for dinner for the adventurous eaters. The vibe is a bit too Manhattan-y for its own good (Portishead blaring on speakers on repeat and neon blue lights seem strange at 12:15 on a Tuesday afternoon), but it sets a decent atmosphere for dinner. read more

I was looking forward to a nice, relaxing night and instead was served a completely rushed meal. The waitress came over in seconds, brought out each course as we barely put down our forks. After ordering drinks, soup, appetizers and main course, we were served and paid in under an hour! Not exactly the relaxing Saturday evening out. I felt like they just wanted us to finish so the they could have the table for the next people. Yes, the food was good and decor beautiful, but after spending almost $100 i don't want to feel like i just had an express meal. There are lots of other excellent sushi restaurants around. Love this place, one of my favorite Japanese restaurants on Long Island. I have been here many times and really should have written a review a long time ago. I have dined here with small groups and large groups for celebrations or just for casual meal. I enjoy lunch here as much as dinner. Friends who despise sushi love many of the non sushi entrees and appetizers. The service has always been excellent, never disappointed. I always make a reservation just in case and have never waited beyond reserved time for my table. The prices are lower then many places with the same or lesser rated food. We have had the Miso soup and the Squash Lobster soup, both are very nice. At this week's dining adventure we had the Green Salad w/Ginger Dressing, Salmon Skin Salad, and the Warm Wild Mushroom & Spinach Salad...all thumbs up. Some of our favorite appetizers are the Fried Oysters, Blue Crab Fajita, and Golden Lobster. The special rolls are excellent, if you like cooked rolls the Aji King is awesome. The Sashimi is very fresh and the Sashimi dinner for one is a really filling portion. A non sushi eating friend had the King of the Sea entree and found it to be filling and delicious. I ordered the Sesame Tuna Steak very rare and it was perfect. If you like Teriyaki or Tempura no worries it's all good. in the past for celebrations we have had the fried ice cream dessert, always a hit. Cocktails are nicely done and they have a nice Sake selection.This week we tried the red bean and green tea ice cream, tasty end to a perfect dinner. read more
