I tried sushi for the first time ever here, so my review might be a little too complimentary, but the rolls I had here were absolutely delicious! I had the American Dream Roll and the Paradise Roll (see the menu on their website for all the ingredients), and both tasted unique and extremely fresh. The decor was super chic, which I'm a sucker for, and the service was outstanding; granted it was a week night and not very busy, but none the less, we were waited on hand and foot. I dined at this Aji 53 even though I live much closer to the original Aji 53 in Bay Shore because I had a Restaurant.com certificate. I thought the food was just as good as the Aji 53 closer to home. We had two sushi entrees and all of the sushi and sashimi were great! I especially like the salmon roll with the crunchy stuff in it. The place was hopping for a Wednesday night. Service was very good and I thought the decor was very pretty. I especially liked the mah jong, domino, dice wall as you walk in. I've been here several times, the food is good and the atmosphere is pleasant. The tuna and avocado salad was spicy but yummy. The valentine roll was good too. The service was at first attentive but after we received our food, the waitress disappeared. We had to flag another server over to order more drinks. Aji 53 is not your typical Japanese restaurant. It's more trendy, fun and high energy. The music is loud, the atmosphere is cool and the drinks are good. They have a great cocktail menu, my favorite is the Dragon Punch. The food is a mix of your typical Japanese offerings and more unique offerings. My favorite salad is the warm wild mushroom salad which includes a variety of mushrooms and a truffle dressing. The dressing is nicely balanced and not overpowering with the truffle flavor. The vegetable tempura was good except a bit on the oily side. Rolls are good but I am vegan so I can only comment on the veggie rolls. My other dining companions enjoyed their sushi though. The night ended with a free round of sake bombs which was fun and unexpected. Service was not bad but a little all over the place. All in all, a great night out! read more

Used to be my favorite sushi restaurant however their lunch is sub bar. Entire office ordered lunch specials. One of my California rolls had a medium length human hair in plain sight attached to the avocado. Upon examining it further another roll had a lighter colored hair or type of fuzz. My only gripe with this place is the music playing so loud although, it's not as loud as other sushi places in the area. Best sushi on the island! I've tried everything Nisen, korobuki etc. This place by far has the freshest fish and is consistent with this. The sashimi is melt in your mouth fresh, where in other places you need to get rolls full of sauces that mask the lack of quality in their fish. Aside from the sushi and sashimi, if you like spicy you have to try the lemongrass soup yummy! This is the best sushi place hands down. I wanted to place an order for delivery tonight at work, and when I went online I saw that I fell outside the delivery zone by about 500 feet, so I called to try anyway, and after a little hesitation they agreed to deliver it to me. Great customer service. I got to say the Crispy Duck appetizer it is the best hands down, and the Valentine Roll is the best roll they have, crunchy tuna wrapped tuna sashimi, amazing!!! Also when you are there, if you are lucky sometimes the waiters will give your whole table saki bombs on the house. We are avid sushi lovers. We have our usual fave spots and decided to try the aji in smithtown. We got there kinda early around 5:30. The place was pretty empty. Nice decor, we got a nice seat except it was across from the bar and was noisy. The miso soup was ok. Tuna tataki app had a strong fish after taste. We ordered the sushi dinner that came with a spicy salmon roll. The sushi wasn't as fresh as we had hoped. Every piece had an after taste. The spicy salmon roll tasted good but rolls like that usually are because you taste more mayo then anything. We ordered a rainbow roll which was pretty good. Overall very disappointed. read more

Last night had a fabulous live (raw) scallop appetizer special that is served with lime slices and a delicate citrus sauce. I also had a valentine roll for the first time which I loved. Last night I came out from Manhattan where I live and I took my mom here for her Birthday! MIMI was excellent !!! Perfect genuine service. Then the food was incredible. Started with rock shrimp. Even the salad that comes with your entree was great. We had the surf and turf, the sea bass and the scallops with shrimp in a light cream sauce. Damn that bit was good. I said god damn like Uma Thurman in the bathroom in Pulpfiction good. Thank you Mimi and cool ambience and vibes inside and chefs. NEVER one to complain, but this place was just AWFUL! I mean, how can one go from ordering a Spicy Tuna Handroll and a Gin & Tonic "not on the cocktail menu..." SERIOUSLY... What server/Service person in a restaurant in THE WORLD does not know what a G&T IS!?!?!?! My lady ordered a Grey Goose & Club and was looked at like she had 4 HEADS!!! After ALL the "fun" we had we the proceeded to receive our $120 bill....We were "QUITE" pleased! We also had 3 waitresses which did not communicate and asked for our order 2x. By 2 different people.
