Our list of ingredients for the night

An absolutely amazing dining experience! This was my first tasting menu and I'm glad it was at this restaurant. The service was impeccable, the flavors were exquisite and the plating was artistic. We started off with a 5-course meal, but slipped in an extra cheese course before dessert. You can also opt for a 7-course meal which includes a seafood course. Plan ahead to include Aizle as part of your Edinburgh experience and make reservations in advance. It's so worth it!

We couldn't help ourselves and ordered a set of drinks and the tasting wine menu. We were not ok at the end of the night. Lol!

I try to do at least one high end restaurant on a trip and I did a lot of research that led me to making a reservation at Aizle. I'm not high brow at all, in fact I've made a kind of prejudicial assessment (not mean spirited at all, btw) of people who eat at places like this. There's the rich who find it be just a place to eat, the upper middle who like to brag they can eat at places like this (and are always the loudest people in the room), the people who save up to have an experience and chefs/hospitality workers who want to experience another's cooking/service. I fit into the last two categories and believe me I saw the other categories in this restaurant. I was worried that it would be too high brow, given it's location and the price point but I was surely surprised at how casual the service and décor was. Casual or not, the service was pristine and I was impressed with everyone who worked here. And even though the ambiance was casual, with the garden/outdoor furniture theme, the room was gorgeous and well appointed. We were sat at a lovers bench facing the restaurant and I loved it. It felt super special and like an experience. Then the food started coming out and I was even more impressed. These dishes are plated like works of art and I promise you, pictures cannot do them justice. The menu changes as the weather/availability does so when you go the same items may not be on the menu but let me tell you, the skewers of lamb with mushroom broth were TO DIE FOR. It's been almost a week since we've dined here and I cannot stop thinking about them. I have a feeling it will take me years to get over how delicious that bite of food was. The tasting menu is extensive and you will be fairly full at the end. We did opt for some of the options like the wine pairing and the cheese plate and pairing so we may have been a bit more full but it was worth every penny. This experience is one that shouldn't be missed. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed dinner at Aizle my first night in Edinburgh. I had a made a booking in advance and was really looking forward to this experience. Service was wonderful, and each and every item that was presented to me was both visually stunning and scrumptious. I had every intention of trying this restaurant in March of 2020 when the world shut down, and my plans had to be canceled. I was then scheduled to be in Edinburgh in January and Aizle was going to be closed on the dates I was in town, when that got rescheduled and they were open I knew it was meant to be. I had an early booking and the place really filled in. My table was perfect, and although each separate presentation was small in portion size - I was completely satisfied by the conclusion of the tasting menu. If you are looking for a truly outstanding and classy dinner to remember, either solo, for a date, or a business occasion I'd highly recommend Aizle. You'll be hard pressed to find any meal presented as beautifully and delectable as the tasting menu here.

The quick: it looks good. Taste is another thing. They need to have an exercise in increasing their awareness of their dishes & make sure they try their dishes. They will give you 8 courses 3 are great 2 are bad & the other 3 are decent. One dish that they were serving was a tomato round - with some sort of gelatin, with blue cheese on top. The tomato was overpowered by the taste and smell of formaldehyde. It tasted the way a dissected animal smelled, any one in healthcare might have a similar adverse reaction. The steak tartar was poorly executed - and might be what gave my wife stomach troubles later. The fish dish was great, the beet dish was excellent. The lamb skewer was great. They have a long ways to go to be charging for a product that is immature, or inconsistent and not yet fully developed. Ambiance was decent - there was a massive lag between dishes that typically doesn't happen between most Michelin rated restaurants. Some good - some horrible - some ok. Would I pay for this again? Absolutely not. Not trying to be mean - but they seriously need to increase their self awareness and improve their standards. Update: my wife & I got food poisoning- the steak tartare was low quality... debating on what to do. Such a waste and ruined a whole weekend beyond the dining experience

High end food. It's expensive but the experience is terrific. It's a fixed multi course menu & they do soda or wine pairings. The presentation was artistic and beautiful.

We want to try one tasting menu in Edinburgh, where we were visiting for a week. Very happy with our decision to go to Aizle. What I really liked about this place was they listed all the ingredients used in crafting the menu. It changes with every season, I imagine. So you're in for a bit of a surprise and we really liked that. You can let the server know of allergies, lucky me, I just have a mild lactose intolerance (can't take soft cheeses, only low lactose parmesan). They used goat milk which is lower lactose than cows milk. They only take reservations, and there was nothing available after 6pm, because it was all booked up. The place was very nice, ambient, and had an outdoor feeling because of its glass covered ceiling. So you get a ton of light during the day. Service was excellent. Impeccable service. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Each dish was so unique and flavours just bursted in my mouth. If I lived here, I'd be going here every time they get a new list of ingredients. The cuisine is a mix of Scottish inspired fusion. More fusion than Scottish though, but that is fine by me! I'd definitely return the next time I come to Edinburgh.

Best dining experience of my life. The service was just fantastic, and everyone was very welcoming and kind. The vibe was laid back and overall just an amazing meal. The food...it's hard to even describe. I'm a vegetarian and also avoid rennet and they were very accommodating with my dietary requests. The presentation of the food was so unique and frankly just beautiful. The flavors were stunning, unique, and beautifully balanced. We also got the wine pairings with each course and the sommelier was lovely, explaining to us all about the different wines and tasting notes. Also, we booked for our honeymoon and they were so nice and made it very special for us. Would recommend whole-heartedly to anyone. Worth it!

Prior to my trip to Edinburgh, I decided to research what restaurants were the best in the city that served Scottish food. It was one of my good friend's birthday and I wanted to take her out to a nice dinner. A few popped up, one of them being Aizle. Aizle is defined as a spark or a glowing hot ember in the Scottish language. The restaurant encompasses local, seasonal ingredients where everything is made in house. As ingredients change, so does the menu consisting of a set 6 courses at 55 pounds per person. Upon entering Aizle, you are enlightened by the warm decor the restaurant brings to its atmosphere. A menu of ingredients used for the meal is displayed on one of the walls at the entrance. The waiters and staff were oh so welcoming among the candlelit tables. As we were seated, we were greeted with some snacks to start and advised that the menu would be presented at the end of the meal. So without any knowledge of what would be presented before us other than the ingredients used to create the menu, we were set on a journey of Scottish cuisine: SNACK: CHEDDAR CORNETTO. MOUNREYAC PEAR SNACK: DUCK LEG. KIMCHI. SNACK: MUSHROOM CHAWANMUSHI, JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE, PARMESAN. MY FAVORITE: COURSE ONE: SHEEP'S MILK AGNOLOTTI, WILD LEEK, WHEY. BREAD: CONFIT CHICKEN, BRIOCHE BUN, TRUFFLE. COURSE TWO: COD, CELERIAC, GRAPES. COURSE THREE: PEKING DUCK, HERITAGE CARROT, SANCHO, BUCKWHEAT. Sorry, I ended up eating this before I took the picture. IT was delicious though and the duck was cooked perfectly! COURSE FOUR: GRANNY SMITH APPLE, WHITE CHOCOLATE. COURSE FIVE: YORKSHIRE RHUBARB, HIBISCUS, SCOTTISH OATS. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Aizle. Some dishes took some time to be delivered to our table in between courses, but they were all beautifully executed. My favorite was the pasta dish: pillowy soft pasta filled with deliciously creamy cheese with a light broth to accompany the dish. It was wonderful in its own right. The staff were on point with catering to our needs and after a 2.5-3 hour meal, my friend and I left happy with a full tummy.

This is probably my favourite overall restaurant in Edinburgh. They showcase so much of the best of Scottish/local meats and produce (hogget is often featured, but based on my visits and the multiple photos of it here they're finding all kinds of ways to prepare and present it) and the attention to detail is astonishing. It's not "cheap and cheerful" (well, it is pretty cheerful especially if you enjoy some of their exquisite cocktails with your dinner) but dinner at Aizle is comparable to ones I've had that cost several times more than here. Each dish is so beautifully plated and presented you almost feel bad tearing into it with your utensils. But then you actually taste how incredible it is and you don't feel bad about it anymore. Service is impeccable but not at all stuffy. It's so rare and lovely to be able to enjoy a meal of this calibre in such a relaxed and cosy ambiance. If you're visiting and staying in the centre it's a short bus or cab ride over and worth a visit if you're a local as well.

Aizle has no menu, just a list of ingredients that may or may not show up in your food, plus a chance to explain your dietary restrictions. The meal consists of five creative courses inspired by seasonal, local produce. Aizle is getting 5 stars from me because every single course delivered. Each dish brought interesting flavors to my tongue - there were no duds, no fillers. Just tastiness. The second course involved perhaps the yummiest carrots I have ever eaten. I opted for the drinks pairing, which included a beer, three wines, and a cocktail (all small servings). The beverages complemented the food well. The cocktail (a strawberry concoction, the type of thing I would usually avoid) was particularly delicious. I'm looking forward to trying some more of their house cocktails on our next visit, which will be very soon.

Aizle is definitely a five-star place for me in Edinburgh. I had dinner here a few weeks ago with fellow Yelper Mariana per her suggestion and I was not disappointed. First things first, the view out of the window of Salisbury Crags is amazing! The ambiance is lovely and cozy, a great place for a date or a gathering with friends. It is upscale casual, but not TOO upscale or uncomfortable at all. My favorite kind of place. I am kind of obsessed with the concept of a blackboard board with ingredients and the chef creating the five course menu from there. I came hungry and truly enjoyed each and every course. I ate everything as listed, but they do enquire about dietary restrictions and seem fairly accommodating. The presentation of each dish was also beautiful. The care that goes in to the food here is astounding. We got cocktails and wine with our meal, but you can add a drink pairing for £30 (the 5 course meal is £45 and worth every penny). Next time I go I think I will do the whole thing up properly with the drinks pairing, but the cocktails we tried were absolutely lovely. Service was also impeccable. I have nothing to complain about with Aizle and I truly cannot wait to be back. I can't imagine a restaurant in Edinburgh that can beat this one.

Aizle has got to be one of my favourite dining experiences to date. As most have said, no menu, just a seemingly random list of ingredients which makes for a surprising and delicious evening. We arrived at our reservation time and after verifying our dietary requirements/allergies the culinary show began. Each of the dishes were creative, full of flavour and beautifully presented. The waitress did an excellent job of introducing each dish and then leaving us to it. I loved everything we had but the huge standouts were the monkfish, lamb, truffled cheese plate and the cherry dessert. I literally could not stop smiling. Given the quality of ingredients and the number of dishes, Aizle is an amazing value at £45. They also have a good selection of cocktails and a nice wine list with several reasonably priced bottles. If I'm ever back in Edinburgh I will definitely return.

What an incredible find. Hands down the best meal of the whole UK trip, which included stops in London and Paris. Wonderfully prepared tasting menu, with seasonal ingredients and flavors and textures that blew my mind. Great low key, yet classy ambience with impeccable service. Drinks were on point as well. Highly highly recommend!!!

We started with the haggis appetizer, which was genuinely delicious hearty, comforting, and reminded me of a Salisbury steak with gravy and potatoes. If you're going, I'd absolutely recommend starting there. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't live up to that strong start. My fiancé ordered the ribeye with fries, and once again I have to say: Edinburgh really struggles with fries. These were bland, oily, and needed a serious dose of salt. The ribeye itself had no seasoning, which was disappointing. While the peppercorn sauce was good, a quality ribeye should be flavorful on its own without having to rely on sauce. I ordered the salmon with beets and potatoes. It was decent, but, like much of the food we've had in Edinburgh so far, it could have used more seasoning. The ingredients seem fresh, but the flavors just don't sing. For dessert, we shared the banoffee pie. It was light and not overly sweet which I appreciated but it was just okay. Not memorable. Service was another weak point. Our server wasn't rude, but we were largely forgotten because there was a large party seated behind us. At this price point, you expect attentive service. I understand Scotland doesn't operate on a tipping culture, but when restaurants are charging higher prices (and often more than comparable U.S. restaurants once converted from GBP), the quality and attentiveness should match. Overall, Howie's wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. Amazing haggis, decent dishes, mediocre seasoning, and slow service. For locals who prefer milder flavors, this might be a solid choice but for visitors used to more robust seasoning and higher service standards, it may fall short.

And that would be a shame, since it was very good! I came here for a family dinner, and we enjoyed the intimate space, friendly service, and carefully prepared dishes. To start we ordered drinks, and while they have a nice wine list, they didn't have as much in the way of beer or cocktail selection. Then, we had appetizers: White Onion and Beer Soup, Fried Octopus, and Smoked Chicken and Mousse Salad. All very good! Although not my dish, apparently the chicken salad was phenomenal :) For our main courses, I had roast rabbit loin, and my companions had vegetable tikki and a rack of lamb. My dish was quite tasty, and plated nicely, although nothing out of the ordinary. The Tikki (not sure what that is, actually), was crunchy, spicy, and tasted very nutritious. The rack of lamb could've been served a little warmer but was cooked to perfection and of very high quality. Dessert is actually where Field really shone-- we ordered some tea and I enjoyed the raspberry "cheesecake." It was spectacularly tasty, and quite inventive, not what you think of at all for a cheesecake, it was instead crispy layers of caramelized hazelnut crumb biscuit with what seemed like mascarpone cheese in between. Yum! Also tasty, the chocolate mousse, and lemon curd meringue tart. What a lovely dinner, not horribly expensive, and conveniently located in the old town while neatly avoiding becoming some garish tourist trap! It also came with a watermelon and feta salad though which cut through the Harissa spice and made for a well balanced dish. My wife got seared scallops and Thai chicken wings. She said it was very good and it was definitely a good portion but I can't wait. I got the Onglet Steak with Haggis. Wow. The steak was plentiful and cooked perfectly. Super flavourful as there was a slight bit of whisky sauce And spinach in the plate to eat it with. I could've just had the steak and been fine. And that's coming from someone who doesn't eat tons of steak. But the Haggis was the highlight of the dish. Full of flavour. Smooth texture with tons of seasoning. Would get the Haggis alone and be happy. It was served in a caramelised onion spring roll. Added amazing nuance to the flavour. Just superb. Would love to return. Will be sure to make a reservation next time.

It was a Monday, and trivia night, so it was crowded. Good food and good beer, trivia was hard. (Name the fast food chain with most outlets worldwide? Name the top ten grossing Tom Hanks live action movies. That kind of thing - didn't need to be Scottish to play). A huge bonus that we didn't fully appreciate until a week into the trip - they offered skinny fries, which we yanks think of as fries, as an alternative to the thick cut chips that are included in every meal in every restaurant in all of Scotland. Okay, we have not been seeking out Michelin restaurants, but I sure long for some mashed potatoes with my chicken sandwich. Also, really friendly staff at the Old Bell (because we had literally just arrived, we didn't have two pounds in order to join trivia night; they said no worries, and just added it to our food and drink bill). And great ambience - traditional Scottish pub, with food and beer. Check it out.

Smoked salmon so fresh that its firm flesh gives a good bite. The steak and ale pie is also sublime. The haggis is rich, savoury, and delicious. I mean who doesn't love a good pub? You get great drinks and great food at an affordable price. As I write it makes me think of think of when Zidane reunites with Freya in FF9. Sometimes we don't wanna eat at fancy Michelin restaurant that has small plates but charges a premium. Sometimes we just wanna cut all the BS and just get a nice hearty meal. And thats what we got. When we sat down we found out that they were doing a Trivia night. Normally I would have told my girl to pick another spot to eat but for some reason I was cool with it. There was even a table nearby with kids(yuck). And you know what? It was fine. That's because we had been sipping on some amazing cocktails. If you also partake, Gin and Mezcal enjoyers will love the Bramble and Hibiscus Crush. What color are Luigi's overalls from Super Mario? That's such an easy question. Wait...what do you mean Luigi's overalls are blue? They are green. Look at this picture onli...Oh... One of the stars of our meal was the Haggis. This was the first time I had ever tried it and after trying it at multiple places Scotland, Queens Arms I feel has done it the best. I love the complexity of the flavors of the meat with the creamy and pepper flavors of the peppercorn sauce. If you've never had Haggis, you definitely have to try it here. The best part is that it comes with mashed potatoes too! Shoutouts to the Fish and Chips if you are also into that. One of my friends ordered that and I definitely had to go back in for multiple bites. Finally the roast. The Sunday Roast should just be an automatic order if you happen to come here on a Sunday. You get so much food and it's all so damn tasty. They'll cook a roast to whatever doneness your heart desires. We went with Medium Rare and it came out perfectly. If you didn't have enough flavors with all the extra sides it comes with, they also give you gravy to pour on anything you want. Thanksgiving basically came early this night. But as I looked around and admired all the bookshelf's and all the families have a nice dinner with their loved ones, I just thought about how happy I was. I was finally here! This was the start of my trip. Queens Arms has set a high ceiling on great experiences in Scotland. We even went back there a couple of days ago just because we knew we would be able to end the night on a good drink. But in the end I think if you are Edinburgh, you have to come to this place. It is one of my favorite experiences I've had in Scotland so far and I dream about when I can come back again.

When our food arrived we finally asked to move spots but the back of the restaurant was just as bad. I can't believe other families weren't complaining. We also found a hair in our appetizer and the mains were subpar. My husband complained about his fries and burger and the manager was combative. They comped us for one whiskey and we left as quickly as possible. The shepherds pie was very salty and the side of veggies was very clearly from frozen.

We came in excited about this place, and the restaurant had open tables at about 6:50pm on a Friday ... we had just walked all day and were starving with a 2-year old and an elderly after walking all over town and sightseeing all day long. However, was told by this girl that they didn't have a seat for us. Although there was no wait, no one ahead of us and empty tables. I told her she could seat us in that booth, we didn't mind since our 2 year old wouldn't be eating. However, she cut me off and said that would not work. I thought that was weird but that should have been That it would take them about 30 minutes to get us a table. We walk around in the cold, come back to the restaurant ... there are plenty of open tables. My husband takes my 2-year old inside to wait so she is not in the freezing rainy cold (especially since she was sniffling). The hostess then says it's going to take longer and that we must wait outside the restaurant. We tell her it's cold, and we've been waiting. She then says ... "This isn't going to work, I'm not serving you. You guys can leave." She did not want to serve of us this entire time! She could have told us when we first walked in, but made us wait and walk around outside in the cold rain with a 2-year old and an 88-year old ... then decides she doesn't want to serve us. We walked in at 6:50pm, came back at 7:30pm, waited until 7:45pm when she told us she wouldn't serve us. By this time all the other restaurants were fully reserved or with 1-2 hour waits. We ended up not able to have dinner that night, and got snacks from the grocery store. DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! NEVER TREATED THIS BADLY BY A RESTAURANT!
