Just don't order the "Blood-orange & burnt sugar" crepe. I can never seem to catch this delightful sounding crepe when the oranges are in season. But that's no problem because the selection of sweet and savory crepes is varied enough that it will take you a while to have the same thing twice. Today I have settled for the "Berries and rosewater yoghurt" crepe with a flat white to wash it down.
The service here is always friendly and always apologetic when they let me know my blood orange crepe is yet again out of season. (one day I will get my blood orange crepe, it's how they keep me coming back)
The seating is cramped and rarely comfortable, but just remember, that's not why you came here. Aix is all about the food. And they do it well. Everything I have had has tasted great, was a good price and the portions are the perfect size. Large enough to satisfy but not so large that you're not still craving more.
My only gripe is that the coffee here is totally hit or miss. Some days I have come in and enjoyed a delightful brew. Other days it has been bitter or burnt. But I am a coffee snob; so if you're not as picky as me I challenge you to find the flaw at Aix Creperie.
PS. As I was paying my very modest bill, $10.50 with a twenty, the owner asked me if I had any change. I apologised, as I had no coin with me. He then said, "remember for next time" and handed me back a tenner. Needless to say, this will be remembered, and I will be back. (as much in gratitude as it will be to get my blood-orange crepe)
**edit**
I have since returned after I received a tip-off that the blood-orange was in season and the crepe was available. To be honest it wasn't the best crepe I have had there. But that just serves as a complement to the rest of the menu because the blood-orange crepe was rated yummy on the Hertz-Schnider tasty scale. read more
