Well, this was the one that we picked to come and have some brunch, though we did it on a Friday as opposed to a Saturday hoping that it would be somewhat quieter. It was, and it was well worth it. The benedict on hash browns was pretty awesome, and they also did a decent pot of tea. Oh, and the staff were pretty cool as well.

This place is hands down my favourite place for breakfast in Melbourne. Coffee is delicious, served at perfect temperature and they have bonsoy. We both ordered the big brekky $18.50 and everything was generous and cooked to perfection.. Perfect poached free-range eggs.. Mushrooms, pork sausage, potato rosti, 3 rashes of bacon, tomato relish and sourdough toast. We were both very happy and full after our selection but watching them bring out everyone else's plates was so tempting. Service was on point and you weren't squished into a seat or rushed with your meal despite the endless stream of people in and out. We were house hunting today and thought we'd try and found a local cafe and boy are we glad we stumbled upon Lolo & Wren! Will we be back?? Most definitely!!!

Lots of seating available both inside and outside.  Lots of free street parking (but 1P which is never sufficient when it comes to cafes).  I found the menu quite different as it had two types of burgers, a croque-monsieur, a lamb shoulder moroccan salad, chia pudding, some interesting pancakes, and a chickpea dish. None of these dishes had eggs in them. On the very left hand side, they had eggs on toast, the big breakfast, and smashed avo toast.  My friend and I decided to get the lamb shoulder moroccan salad which was shredded tender lamb (looked like pulled lamb, very fine and long strands), dotted with pomegranate seeds and submerged in sheep's yoghurt. It was nice but felt like it needed to be eaten with some bread, or pita bread. It seemed more of a side dish rather than breakfast/lunch or main dish so quite disappointing.  The roast chicken burger with 4 thin slices of chorizo, some jalapenos and some mayo was slightly larger than a slider and quite bland. I only liked the brioche bun but the filling was ok. My friend who was starving didn't eat all of her food.  The coffee was very weak and my friend did not like her white hot chocolate.  Service was ok. Split bills taken. They do ubereats for most of their menu items (brunch on ubereats - wow). Average food.

Reading the menu nearly induced a (further) personal crisis as I found it most difficult to choose the optimal breakfast. I ultimately chose the huevos rancheros which is nominated on the menu as a house speciality and which previous reviewers have commented on most favourably. I'm delighted to report that I have rarely made a wiser food choice in my time on earth. The dish is superbly composed and astonishingly satisfying. Again I found myself thanking a nearby deity for locating me in this great city of Melbourne. I found every element of the huevos rancheros to be spot on the mark. The tortilla was fresh, light and fluffy. The scrambled eggs the same and so light they risked becoming airborne without their tortilla casing. The beans were black, moorish and so so good and tasty. The cream was luscious and gorgeous. And so on, and so on. It's just a magnificent dish. Whoever designed it deserves an order of Australia. To the chef, the same. If they're one and the same person, give them a hefty cash gratuity from commonwealth coffers too for outstanding and selfless service to the nation and the physical and mental health of its people. And, while we're at it, and in a spirit of inclusion, give the server an award of magnitude too for conveying the dish so elegantly and efficiently over several metres from kitchen to my table. My best to you all. I haven't talked about the cafe itself. It's not large and I can see why it would quickly get busy sometimes with people having to wait a bit. So be it. Sometimes the small places are the best. We found a table quickly. It did get noisy quite rapidly because they were a few young rowdy kids there with their parents. The only kid that bothered me was the one held directly at us face first from the adjacent table. I'm not entirely sure why someone would think it was acceptable to directly face a screaming child at people, but there you go, they did that. Perhaps it was because the kid had been denied the huevos rancheros on this morning. Who cares. We were in a benign almost zen like state and resisted a momentary urge to scream back at the kid from a few inches away. Good food can induce this sort of calm. So I'm putting it down to the trance like afterglow from the huevos rancheros. I had a couple of coffees and they were outstanding. Rich, luscious and creamy with deep and elegant flavour. Coffee as good as I've ever had anywhere. Finally, I liked the service here very much. The server was a tall happy young soul who either loves his job and people or is a very skilled actor. He was calm, polite, interested, engaging and efficient throughout. All power to him. I was also impressed by the smiles I was seeing behind the counter and in the kitchen. My point is that this looked and felt like a happy place and even had a saying to that effect over the kitchen door. It's obvious I loved it here. I rarely give fives but went extremely close here. It's a 4.8 from me and I'm returning as soon as I can.

It came out and the mushrooms were dry and inedible, could not even eat one of them, they had obviously been sitting out for a while. I went again last week (heat wave week). They had aircon on but i suspect it was just on 'fan' with the front door open (on a 44 degree day!) so place was not very comfortable. We arrived at noon on a weekday and expected the place to be busy with a lunch rush but it was pretty quiet. I asked for Eggs Benedict again (menu had no time limit for breakfast and I am sure I had it around noon last time). They said they were not making breakfasts at that time.. (again - no note on the menu about time limit). I ordered the Open Faced Lamb Kebab instead - while my friend ordered a salad. Our meals came out and the Lamb Kebab looked amazing. The lamb was tender and freshly cooked - the highlight of the dish (see pic). Chips were OK, dips were nice and in-house made I believe. Props for good quality meat being used. My friend liked his bean salad however he did not finish it so not sure if that is a good sign.. But what really irked me (apart from the sweltering place) was the music. The owners are obviously passionate about old 70s / 80s / obscure music and had it playing very loud while we were there. It was just simply too loud. One song had a whilstle bit that echoed through the entire shop and hurt my ears. The songs were so cringe-worthy that I could imagine wanting to commit suicide to them. WHY. Why make your patrons listen to it? I could see that the european owners treated it like their own home kitchen with many regulars (other older europeans) there however there were not many general patrons and I think this turns business away. Really not my cup of tea with that music... good kebab and my friend liked their coffee but the noise, ambience and comfort value is off the mark
