I was referred to Dr. Aivaz's Endodontic practice by my regular dentist. I needed a root canal. As this was my first root canal I was, of course, a bit apprehensive. We've all heard the horror stories. My experience here was great all the way through. A was given a very thorough consultation followed by an appointment for the root canal the following Saturday. The doctor was a wizard with the Novocain. No pain whatsoever! The procedure took just an hour total. The tooth was a little sensitive after the Novocain wore off, but not severely so. The Dr. prescribed some pain meds but I really didn't need them. Over all, a very efficient, well run practice. I highly reccomend Dr. Aivaz if you're in need of Endodontic dentistry. read more

I do not write very many reviews, but I am so excited to write this one. I was always told that endodontists don't always have the best beside manners. And, I actually believed that based on the endodontist I saw initially regarding my failed root canal issue. After several hundred dollars just to attempt to diagnose the problem (couldn't even diagnose what took Dr. Aivaz and his associate 15 minutes to determine) and an over-inflated expensive quote that basically put me in tears (from a well known Dr. in Torrance), I saw Brett Beebe, D.D.S. (same building), who then referred me to Dr. Aivaz. (By the way Dr. Beebe and his staff are equally amazing and the best of the best (having seen many dentists), highly recommended. Wonderful office!) Dr. Aivaz and his associate even stayed late to see me that same day. They were so wonderful, I couldn't wait to tell everyone about how grateful I was. Fast forward to the day of the surgery...nerves, nerves, nerves. But they make you feel as comfortable as you can possibly feel. Dr. Aivaz is professional, kind, gentle (getting the shots were as easy as they could have been), caring, patient, informative, and just overall a wonderful endodontist. And, not only Dr. Aivaz, but his staff, every single one of them, are absolutely lovely. I talked to Brittany the most. She is awesome, totally helpful and accommodating. The other assistants' names I do not specifically recall, but they were wonderful too. Irma, I believe, she was wonderful. I went in for an apicoectomy (a last resort surgery to save a tooth when a root canal fails - incision through your gum and bone to repair the apex of the root (if I understand correctly), knarly, I know) which was was so nervous about, definitely not a picnic, and not how I want to spend my days off LOL. They informed me exactly of what to expect and it all went just as they said it would. The procedure was as easy as it could have been for something like this. So far, I am almost at the one week mark from my surgery and the swelling is almost gone (which got really bad before it got better - but they explained it all, so I knew what to expect) and I appear to be healing right on schedule. I am hopeful that Dr. Aivaz was able to save my tooth but time will tell. As for the care and treatment I received, all I can say is that I knew from my initial appointment that I was in good hands with Dr. Aivaz and his staff, but then after my procedure, I couldn't be convinced of that more. I received the absolute best care possible, and I surely hope this boosts his rating up to 5 solid stars because they certainly deserve it. read more

Great Endodontist, root canal procedure was painless. In and out in about two hours, great service.

Definitely not a place for children. My 8yr old was treated horribly and was verbally harassed for being in pain during a root canal. I don't think "telling a child to take a nap, and that it will be better for the both of them if she did" is professional at all. There was definitely a level of negligence durning this visit. Didn't even prescribe any pain medicine because no one in the office knew a pediatric dose! She went for a root canal and left with more than half her tooth gone. Not to mention the lack of aseptic technique and cross contamination. The pediatrician is recommending a longer dose of antibiotics. I will definitely be contacting the licensing board to make a formal complaint. What a horrible experience, I was in tears and shaking for my daughter. To top it off he had the audacity to say if he were to ever do that again that he wouldn't do it without general anesthesia, why didn't he just do that the first time!!? Completely negligent the way he let her suffer. read more

Great experience! I was squeezed in but it was worth the wait. The staff was very friendly and professional. I got a staph infection in my throat and jaw and they opened up my jaw to get out some if the infection. I was so scared to get numbed and cut, but the assistant was so skilled. I was thoroughly impressed. Even with the mean guy in the room next to mine being a total tool to her she was not the least bit flustered. Dr. Aivaz came in after she did her cuts and did a few of his own. It healed very quickly and barely hurt after the procedure was finished. I visited for the infection this past Tuesday and will be going back asap for a root canal. I recommend this office to anyone and everyone. Not to mention they worked with my insurance and did not try to take advantage of me even though they could have tried being as it was an emergency procedure. read more

Although I appreciated Dr. Aivaz's "chair-side" manner and skill in actually performing the first root canal, I was ill served by one of his assistants who did my evaluations. I knew which tooth was bothering me, but she insisted it was the one next to it. After further testing, I was proven correct. Sadly, Dr. Aivaz was not able to clear all three roots of the molar. The tooth continued to cause a great deal of pain and when I returned, the same assistant insisted it was the tooth she had originally identified. Foolishly, I consented to a second root canal on the other tooth. Note that my own dentist believes that the second tooth was vital (did not need a root canal). My problem remains unabated months later and I will now have to have the first tooth pulled and the second one crowned. All of this with no dental insurance so I've been paying out of pocket. By the time I get the second one crowned, I will have spent well over $3,000 and still need to pay to have the first one pulled and replaced. I do NOT recommend this practice. read more

Dr Aivaz is fabulous! Not only a great endodontist (he took care of and saved a tooth my regular dentist said she would have just pulled and had me pay big money for an implant for) but he is very nice and very professional. Every time I've been in he shakes my hand. When I talk to him it actually seems like he's listening and he cares! He doesn't seem like a lot of dentist now who are just in it for the money. I've been in for procedures twice. The first time I had an issue with my insurance the day I went in for surgery and he told me not to worry about it and he would take care of it. And he did! I was a bit shaken up after the procedure and wanted to use the restroom. He was so kind to walk me all the way to the bathroom door even letting me take a short cut through his employee break area. He was also very much aware of my comfort level throughout the procedures. He does quick and good work - can't ask for more than that! read more

I had my first and only root canal done here on October 9, 2013. I had visited 4 other dental offices prior to being referred to Dr. Aivaz by my D-HMO insurance. Even though I live in Riverside, I am glad that I agreed to visit his office in Long Beach. His friendly front desk lady made me a next day appointment since I was in pain. The whole procedure was painless and quick. Best of all, my insurance covered the whole procedure, something that all other offices had denied. I highly recommend Dr. Aivaz to anyone who has been to other DHMO approved offices and felt the sales side of dentistry, or to anyone who is just looking for a great dentist who does great work. read more

Dr. John Aivaz is the best endodontist that I've ever seen. He is very very gentle, respectful, kind, and he knows what he is doing. In last 3 years, I was 4-5 times in his office, he and his team were always helpful, put me between patients if I had pain or was worry about a tooth, or just wanted to see if Dr. Aivaz confirms what other dentists told me. Dr Aivaz is very gentle--and you can believe me because I am a big ass baby when it comes to dentists. My regular dentist referred me to Dr Aivaz and they were able to give me a consultation appointment on the same day I called. They told me what I already knew from my dentist that I needed one root canal and a redo root canal, they saw me the next day and when they told me I was going to be out in an hour I didn't believe them but sure enough it took an hour and after they scheduled me for the redo root canal a week later and same thing the whole process took about an hour. The doctors are very good and nice, the assistants are nice as well. I was actually shocked I didn't wait long waiting to be seeing! I'm a tp (trouble patient) because I'm petrified of dentist but they made the whole process very smooth and I was actually getting sleepy of how calmed I was! read more

my association has been the worst in my life, not only was the office dirty, the help incompetent, the four teeth the he drilled had been much too weak to have a root canal, all those teeth failed, he did not put in a post, as recommended by my general dentist. i had four teeth removed, because of cracking, i had an infection in my mouth. i could continue, i had medication for my infection, then i had to go to a rheumatologist, where my sed rate was so high, a1c reactive was also high, i have been on prednisone for 7-1/2 months, i have endured weakness, pain, dizziness, general malaise, the california dental board had several dentist examine my mouth, that was a sad joke. read more

Had a root canal this morning. My first EVER. I was seen by Dr. Aivaz. I was so nervous all night but I'm happy to report that, I DIDNT FEEL A THING! At all! He number the gum around the tooth then injected numbing meds but I didn't feel a thing. I will definitely return if I need future work done. read more

Fantastic endodontist. Very gentle and listened to me twice when I asked for more novacaine (because I was a bit paranoid). very professional and thorough. I really like how he checks up half way throughout the procedure by taking an x ray to see how much he has done. I definitely recommend him! read more

I have had two root canals by Dr. Aivaz and I was satisfied both times, particularly with the first one because he had to redo another oral surgeons botched job. They specialize in route canals but when I asked for a recommendation for a crown fortunately they recommended Dr. Beebe downstairs in the same building it was wonderful read more

I went there a year ago by recommendation from my dentist. My root canal gave me problems 6 months after dr Aivaz work on it. My dentist recommended to go back there and told them that i had problems. They review the work they did and told me i need it to be reworked again same tooth and that will be another $1400.00 My dentist insist that they are responsible and i should have it done again for free or at least half price. I have called and called for 3 weeks and they never have an answer for me I guess they are too busy to fix mistakes Im not giving business to them any more. Rather go with someone else So be aware ask for they warranty before you decide. 7/15/2014 got a call back finally to go back and have Dr check my case, he said that everything looks ok but that I should floss and bleed my gums for a week to see if the sensation will go away, I did it and nothing change, went back after a week and had another doctor perform a re-do of the root canal. NO charge this time, went back after a week and everything seams okay, Im glad everything got resolved. Now just have to pay for a new crown. Not planned for that but I'm glad Dr.Aivaz agree on re doing the work for free. I'm changing my review to a 2 stars now. read more

This was the absolute worst dental experience of my life. I have had some pretty extensive work done in the past, so I have a decent frame of reference to make this statement. Was supposed to be a fairly straight forward deal, remove the crown, clean out the roots for being infected, and reinstall the crown. That part was ok. Not great or even decent, just ok. Afterward, Dr. Aivaz said he needed to do surgery to clear the rest of the infection from above the gum line. I was somewhat prepared for this as my regular dentist told me it might be an option. This is where it all went HORRIBLY HORRIBLY WRONG. Apparently nobody ever explained to the "good" doctor that if an infection is bad enough, the novocane will not have any effect. Believe me when I say you NEVER want to be in the detist chair while he is slicing and drilling into your upper jaw with NO NOVOCANE!! After about 20 minutes of the worst pain I have ever felt, something made a cracking sound in my mouth and the doctor said he was done and stitched me up. I asked if everything went well and if it was done. He said yes and left the room. I asked the assistant if it went well and was my tooth supposed to be loose now. She said yes and escorted me to the desk. Well here I am after 3 days of only eating soup because of the loose tooth. Turns out the cracking noise was the tooth breaking off above the gum line, cause it just fell out. It explains why he finished so abruptly. Go anywhere but here! Give your neighbor's kid a pair of pliers and a hammer to do the job, but don't go here. read more

I made my fifth trip to Dr. Aivaz's office today. Drs. Aivaz and Mitra are simply the best dentists or endodontists I have ever seen. I am a dental chicken, and it is pretty amazing to say your root canal folks are the most painless dentists ever--but they are. I see from the other reviews below that other patients feel the same way. I hate my regular dentist and I don't trust him, so I always ask Aivaz or Mitra my questions and they give thoughtful, caring, professional, intelligent answers. I went to this Endo after my dentist wanted me to wait 2 weeks with a toothache to get a root canal because there Endo was not available. The office person told me to get a referral from my dentist and they could see me the next day. I got the referral and everything went extremely well. They spent the time to make sure the diagnosis was correct. The x-ray did not make it oblivious what tooth was causing all of the pain. They did the root canal on a back molar. It was quick and painless. I compared the x-ray of the root canal they did with one done by a previous dentist and the new one looked like an artist did it as apposed to a the crude job done by my old dentist. First of all, I'm pretty passive, and I think he's a decent person as the others said. However, I was referred to him by general Dentist. I was originally consulted by a female Dentist(intern or partner) not sure. I explained my pain was in the lower molar, she stated you have an infection in the upper molar. I said Im sure the lower is the one bothering me. she said we need to take care of the upper one. WELL! So next day im getting a hole drilled in my upper jaw and refilled. SOOO! after the Novacaine wore off, approx 4-5 hours, back came the toothache, I called, they said come in tomorrow, they said OH! were going to have to perform a root canal on the lower molar; DAAAHHH! The funniest thing though, He Stated, as he's drilling away," if your molar breaks within 6 months, I'll give you your money back" NICE!! finally the toothache is gone. Although I have been to Dr. Aivaz office many times with my husband, my son, my sister , & my mom. I never thought I would end up needing a root canal myself. I recently had a old cracked filling replaced by my general dentist. A few days after that I started experiencing extreme pain when drinking coffee & cold water. Sadly I went to Dr. Aivaz office for an exam the female doctor that saw me was very thorough & gentile .. I did not feel a thing as she proceeded to numb me. She removed the filling I had and determined that the crack was into my nerve. Although I was sad to know that I needed a root canal I was very happy I was going to be treated by Dr. Aivaz. All of my family including my 11 yr old son ( at the time of his treatment) told me I wouldn't feel a thing (I didn't ). I have to say that this was one of the best dental experience I've had ( for a root canal). I highly recommend this office if you are in need of a root canal. The girls I in the front office are always very friendly .. I must say it's very comforting going into an office and being greeted with a smile. The office is very clean and DR. AIVAZ IS EXCELLENT .
