Michael was very open about what is practical for return on investment for our home and needs, and in the end he said our home didn't actually need much of anything. He made sure to check our roof insulation and did some tests to check for wall insulation, and presented ideas for future energy efficiency updates to our home. We were in the process of getting quotes for a water heater replacement and had requested Airsmiths to come out. I told the technician Mike what our issue was that prompted us to get the estimate in the first place (four previous companies had told us due to sediment build up we needed a new water heater). None of them actually diagnosed the issue for us - just listened to our issue and recommended a replacement. Mike took the time to actually diagnose the issue and recommended that we actually replace the heating element, not the entire water heater. He saved us thousands of dollars and did it all at no cost. This review is coming a little late but I guess you can consider it a long term review. Back in August of 2018 I moved into a new home, I knew the AC unit was on its last legs from the home inspection but it only took a couple months of summer to realize it was consuming a crazy amount of electricity to keep the house cool. I wanted to switch to a heat pump to reduce my carbon emissions and saw that SMUD was offering some good rebates so I started looking through the list of SMUD approved contractors and got bids from three of them. Airsmiths not only had great pricing but viewed the house as a complete package, assessing the upgrades that would be the most effective at reducing my energy usage. In total they replaced my AC and furnace with a heat pump, replaced my gas water heater with an electric heat pump water heater, insulated the ducting and added a whole house fan. They even threw in a system check up at the 1 year mark that ended up including a new higher quality capacitor as the original one was already out of warranty spec. There were a few snags along the way: heat pumps are still not as common so we had to wait a bit longer for parts and I did have to get a technician back at a later date to adjust the air handler speed but overall I'm very satisfied with the work they did. To this day people comment at how well the system performs on hot days and the whole system is quite efficient for a 2800 sq ft house. I have heating, cooling, hot water and an electric car running off a 6kW solar system and it still produces more electricity than I can use. Definitely would use Airsmiths again. read more

We did a new zoning system, insulation upgrades, and HVAC unit replacement to a heat pump style unit. The employees were great and the new unit keeps the upstairs cool. I shopped around and the others bids weren't as detailed and professional, just numbers jotted down on a sheet of paper by salespersons. Airsmiths did a wonderful job on my 1929 home. they did the home audit and replace all the duct work and removed all the old insulation in my home. They also sealed everything so no air leakage. Since they completed the work my gas bills have dropped by over half for the season. The workers were so respectful and complete and Mike did an excellent job with the costs. Soon after I called Airsmiths spoke with Carol, very pleasant and explained the situation, we scheduled an appointment for this Friday. Last night my friend asked me to cancel the appointment; heater was working properly. I called Airsmiths to cancel, Carol answered the phone. I explained the situation she listened, was pleasant, understanding, said this happens some time and cancelled the service, no problem. The first person you talk to in any company, can either make or break a company reputation and word of mouth can be good or bad. Airsmith installed an Amana unit in March of 2018. The summer of 2020 the system was not cooking. They came out and said there was a leak in the refridgerant line. Does that happen in 3 years? They repaired it and we were charged for the refridgerent. Very expensive! Summer of 2021 it is not working again. This time it was an EVHC Valve. 2022 comes around and it is not working again. They say there is a leak in the line....the same one they fixed 2 years earlier. They repair it! NOT! Still was not working. They replaced a part...not sure...compresser....STILL NOT WORKING.... I ask the owner Mike to meet with me and go through the problems. He agreed...but instead showed up when I was not home. Roomate let him in. He did something in the attic and the system was working...but not for long. By 2023 the aur was out again!!! 4 straight years. Did not call him back. And then the heating went out this fall. SMH. When I talked to him oreviously...he did not even know his company installed the system.... U could go on and on...but you get the jest. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!​ read more

Refused to come back to fix their screw up because they didn't like the "tone" of my voicemail.! I had to file a grievance with my credit card company. After much time and energy finally got credited. A real technician came out and fixed my AC for less than half of what they were charging me and used a better part. I called Mike at AirSmiths during dinner yesterday. Our AC just stopped unexpectedly with it 100 degrees outside! Mike took the time to walk me through what may have been the problem and even let me try a few DIY type solutions with him on the phone. But after 20 minutes we realized it was a bigger fix than I could do. He arranged one of his techs, Don, to come out first thing today. Don was great, moved fast and understood that we were HOT. Unfortunately it turns out our motor was burned out and he showed it to me. He explained it was just over 10 years old and it wasn't uncommon. Also, my bad, our air filters were old and I should have changed them out months ago. (Change your air filters) Don found a new replacement motor, went and got it, drove it back to my house, installed it and was fast about everything he did. This is my second home improvement project in partnership with Airsmiths. My 17 year old air conditioner started flipping the breaker after running for 15 minutes or less. I called Airsmiths and Don came out to take a look. The condenser was overheating and shorting. I requested a quote for a new air conditioner which was delivered promptly. More than $5k. Yikes! When I had previous work done by Airsmiths I had used SMUD's rebate program which was handled expertly by Mike, owner of Airsmiths. So I checked out the rebates on SMUD and discovered that if I selected a heat pump/ac system that I would receive a $4k rebate if it was completed by May 29, 2020. I contacted Don again and he gave me a quote to replace my entire system that qualified for the SMUD rebate. The difference after the rebate was accounted for was a little over $1,200. My old 17 year old heater was working and Airsmiths is not an outfit that pressures you into replacing equipment that is working; however, I decided that since this house is my retirement home that it would be best for me to go with a brand new system. I value the honesty and integrity Airsmiths employees and routinely recommend them. And I received my rebate check 11 days after the install! read more

Just finished a complete upgrade (heat pump, ducting, attic insulation, and backup gas heat) on my home. I selected Airsmith over three others based on his knowledge, concern for me as a customer (he redesigned the whole system based on current standards rather than just replace what existed), and a fair price. I was not disappointed! We had hiccups along the way but his team always kept me informed and he made sure any issue was properly resolved. I am extremely satisfied with the outcome and it's performance in the summer! I am a retired engineer, we had our house built 34 years ago and since then have remodeled the kitchen, master bath, and put on a new roof. I also have an inactive AB California contractors license. So I am experienced in construction and with contractors working on my home. I can honestly say, working with Airsmith has been the best experience among all the contractors that have worked on my home. His team is professional, honest when issues arise (rather than trying to hide or ignore problems), are respectful knowing they are working in your personal residence, keep things clean, and want to do the job right even if it takes more time. I always have trepidation when selecting a contractor due to my wondering if I was just given a "sales job" or if the contractor is legit and will do all they promise. (Better late than never review). I called Airsmiths to get someone out for AC tune up for my house while I had a week off work for a remodel of my home before the crazy hot months got in full swing. They were prompt to get back to me and send someone out within a couple days of the call in the summer. I discussed on the phone my need for a yearly service of my AC unit which was 7 years old that had a few fuses blow out and that I wanted a quote for a new smart thermostat in my hallway. The tech got there promptly on a hot May day this year and got to work on cleaning and inspecting my unit. Upon discovering a ridiculous amount of clogging with leaves in my unit. He stated my previous fuse blows in years past could be from clogging. He said he was carrying extra covers that would allow for air flow when the unit was on, and shut when it was not (preventing any leaves and junk from falling into the center of the unit). I happily took the solution and now that I look outside at the unit there are a thousand leaves on top of the cover vs. inside the unit since May. LOL. I appreciate the extra care taken for your customers. (though the tech AND I forgot about the thermostat with the craziness of my remodel and workers inside) I'll definitely use this company again this summer for maintenance and remember to get that quote to replace my annoying old thermostat original to the house. read more

It's refreshing to find a company that does a good job AND stands behind their work. We did a major home remodel, including replacing our AC and ducts. Air Smiths came recommended by our contractor and they did an awesome job; giving us recommendations and explaining the options each step of the way. 1) QUALITY WORK & SERVICE: A+ After the work was completed, we didn't move into the house for a few months waiting for other work to complete. When we did move in, we ran the AC and were concerned that the sound it made might not be right. We called Air Smiths and they send out a technician. He checked everything over and explained that the sound was just the filter moving in the vent and showed us how to fix it. We felt pretty stupid, but were thankful for information, AND that Air Smiths did not charge us for the visit! 2) CUSTOMER SUPPORT AFTER THE JOB: A++ Fast forward 2 years to this summer. Our AC starts making a REAL noise then stops working the week we have out-of-town guests staying over. We call 3 different companies and are willing to pay whatever necessary to get the problem taken care of ASAP. Guess who makes it out first. Good old Air Smiths! 7/16/18 -- Don at AirSmith just completed getting our AC up and running after experiencing five (5) days of sweltering heat. Required Service: A new capacitor and 3 lbs. of R22 refrigerant. I am very thankful for Don's professional service and attention to details. Both service actions overcame failures by South Placer Heating & Air. 7/5/18 -- South Placer Heating & Air came out to perform a checkup to deal with any maintenance issues. Service technician's assessment: "Your unit is in good working condition." This turned out not to be true. 1st Issue: The capacitor needed to be replaced and died 7/10/18, five (5) days later. When AC system stopped producing cool air the company claimed to be too busy to help us before 7/18/18. 2nd Issue: Service technician did not replace the caps (look like those on your car tires, only a little bit bigger) to the refrigerant ports. Failing to replace them allowed 3 lbs. of R22 refrigerant to leak out. Adding 3 lbs. of R22 refrigerant cost $358.53. read more

Our AC unit is decades old and so is the technology of the using the double transformer system. I changed my thermostat and the wiring diagram for the new unit was not compatiable for the old technology. Airsmith's came out, fixed and explained the process as I inquired. We were referred to Mike by a friend who is a green builder. We had been hemming and hawing over getting an ac system installed in our older home. We were tired of using a window ac. After getting a quote from another local hvac contractor we were put off by the price and were looking for possible alternatives that were less expensive. We approached Mike with the idea of having a split system installed and he felt that getting central ac installed would be better. After getting his quote we were floored at the difference in price. A friend referred me to Airsmiths after she got a new heating and air conditioning system from them. I had them come out to get an estimate and was very pleased with Mike. He was extremely knowledgeable. I ended up getting a new system from them and it was better than I imagined. They went above and beyond to get everything perfect. My indoor air quality is so much better that my allergies are practically non-existent. I don't get the problem that I used to have where some rooms would be hotter or cooler than others. I have about 10 times the airflow from the vents than what I used to have so it doesn't have to run as long. The second time, he came at 6:30 pm where I'm sure other companies would tell me they'd have to come another day. He obviously has a strong work ethic and a desire to help those in need. I had a very bad experience with AirSmith. Mike, the company President, did an energy audit at my house, which he was late to. He said the audit report would take a few days to complete, which turned out to be 3 weeks. I scheduled a 2nd appt to go over the report with him. Once Mike was 30 mins late to the appt, I called to check. He said he was just finishing up with another job and would call me as soon as he left. Two hours later he finally calls to say he's on his way. I told him don't even bother coming since the appt was 2 hrs ago. The kicker was he never once apologized, great customer service from the company President. But he did make sure I knew to send him a check in the mail- ya I'll get right on that. Will never use this company again...very disappointed by their performance. read more
