TL;DR - results were very good, but for a "high end", insanely expensive place, they make it clear from the get go that they don't give a flying f*** about you. The waiting room was "fancy", but the service was worse than McDonalds.
Area : neck, chin, jowls
Results : great (4/5)
Experience : absolutely horrific (1/5)
First : there is no pre-op. I felt uncomfortable spending thousands of dollars on a procedure based off of a cell phone pic, but when I asked to come in they told me the photo was fine. Before my appointment they were actually really helpful, so I let it slide.
The day of : my appointment was at 10am, but I wasn't seen until 11:15. OK sh** happens! I'm an understanding person.. however I was ignored, and left me waiting on the couch feeling like I was forgotten about (which is embarrassing). After patiently waiting for an hour, I felt it was appropriate to ask the receptionist what was up, and she said she'd find out for me. She came back to the desk and sat down, ignoring me, so I went up again after a few mins and asked, and she said they were running behind. Again, totally fine! Just - TELL ME!!
Frankly, a place with clients spending so much money, I would expect them to like, offer me a bottle of water or something? let alone a mere acknowledgement of my existence. I felt like my showing up for my scheduled appointment was a huge nuisance.
Next : I met with Dr. Cynthia Poulos and she wasn't very nice, but I had started the day with excitement that turned to feeling bummed for about 2 hours now - and i didn't want to be in a bad mood anymore, so I blew it off!
Next : we do vitals, medical history, etc, and I told her that I have tended to need higher doses of novocaine in the past, and that my previous doctor told me to please ALWAYS tell docs that ahead of time... but, she acted appalled and seemed to think I was fishing for drugs (novocaine!)? She asked if I had ever taken Xanax or anxiety meds, and I said "no", and she said "really? Never taken Xanax?", I said "no.." And she asked me yet again, implying I was lying?! Needless to say, i was feeling apprehensive at this point.
[ Side note : I needed to add skin tightening to my procedure and she said, "UGH see this is why I hate not having an in-person consult", as if it were my fault. I didn't tell her I WANTED an in-person consult and was refused because tbh I felt like she hated me and thought I was a drug addict and I felt out of control of the medical procedure that was about to go down. ]
The procedure : I took the meds and the nurse said, "okay you should be feeling loopy now!", i said "I'm not". Then Dr. Poulos came in and said "are you feeling the drugs yet?!", and I said "no, not at all", and she said "oh, well that's good!! We want you to feel normal".
Seems weird, but ok.. We started the procedure with the lidocaine and I could feel EVERYTHING... It was like a horror movie. The pain meds did nothing. Novocaine did nothing. My pain was ignored, and she was annoyed that I was squirming..
I did not feel safe in her care.
Nurse Jackie was super helpful and kind (I just didn't work with her quite as much) but Danielle was the shining star of the whole day. She genuinely cared about my well being. She lovingly touched my ankle when I was vibrating with pain, she asked how I was doing, and gripped me as she walked me out to the car. If it wasn't for Danielle, i would say this place was a total waste garbage dump with shiny bows on top.
It's hard to review it because I think the outcome was genuinely good. Post-op care wasn't bad (tho it's NOT "take a few days off, as they say, and the scar was about the size of a blueberry, not a freckle) - but I also obviously wouldn't have bothered reaching out either way because they made it clear they didn't care about me. I asked to rescheduled my follow up and I never heard back from them, of course. They got my money, they were done.
I lovingly refer to Elite Body Sculpture Boston as the "Fat Factory" because they get the job done, but you're treated like cattle.
This is an honest review as I will admit the results were very good, Danielle was great, but the front desk staff were downright mean girls, and Dr. Cynthia Poulos should not be practicing medicine. read more
