I called in an AC issue to my home warranty company (Fidelity National Home Warranty) and they put AirTek on the job. The AirTek front office gals responded quickly and communicated clearly with me for when Doug would be by. Sure enough, he came by for the initial visit as promised. Doug initial visit was on a Friday afternoon. He quickly assessed the issue, noting that someone had installed a one way filter backwards on the return line (see picture - note that both filters have arrows pointing in the same direction, but the smaller one is supposed to be pointed in the opposite direction). I really appreciated how Doug took the time to explain to me how that backward filter impacted my system and what it would take to correct it. By the following Tuesday afternoon (only a business day and a half!) AirTek had coordinated with Fidelity and obtained authorization to make the repair. That same day, the front office gals communicated with me to get a day and time setup for the repair. They said they wanted to get me taken care of right away and said it would be for sure on the weekend, but earlier if they could. On Wednesday, they told me they got me in on Friday. After another awesome communication call from the front office to let me know he was on his way, Doug and Gage showed up to make the repair on that Friday. The repair was estimated to take a half day, and Doug was done in about 3 hours. Doug left the lines in better shape than he found them, insulating the supply line with some closed cell foam. Now the filter is installed in the proper direction and my compressor doesn't have to fight the added pressure that was being caused because it was installed backwards. Great customer service! My ac literally went out the first day of the heat wave here in Sac. Robin was able to accommodate my tight schedule with work and get me an appointment early morning! I waited less than a day. She was very understanding and considerate of my schedule and my frustration. She booked me as soon as she could. BEWARE: Lazy attitude, Terrible diagnosis, No equipment, No definitive answers & suspected hands in glove with warranty company. Doug showed up quickly on time after the appointment confirmed by Fidelity Insurance. He visually inspects unit, checks air flow with hands. Hot air was coming out confirming that A/C unit was functional. He explained that unit is mechanically running fine but he suspects air flow is not as much as he would expect(No way to measure it). Unit might need replacement of coil but manufacturer does not make it anymore. He started explaining how in general a/c works. I asked if he can be more specific and pin point what part is not fully functional and by how much so that we can replace it. He had no answers. He said quantification can be done but he does not have appropriate equipment. He suggested me to contact other companies. On finding no answers to my questions, in five minutes he comes with a new theory that he sees calcium deposits on the inside of coil that seems more than normal(Again, no way to quantify) and that he will write that in my report and he highly doubts insurance would cover it. His confidence in warranty denial makes me suspect his intensions. I told him that there are no sprinklers around the unit, there is no other water source and if this unit was exposed to water we should see some kind of algae build up around unit or in general rusting on the unit. Again no answers. I asked if he can at least check the freon levels, he again denied on grounds that as air flow is not as per his expectations, he wont do it. His attitude was more like he did not want to do anything and get paid for his 10 minute visual inspection visit. Next day, warranty company calls and guess what, he was right, they denied the claim. My heater broke and they came out under home warranty, but they told me they didn't want to fix the heater until I do xyz stuff on my attic first. And doing these things will take a long time and doesn't really prevents heater from been fixed. I end up hiring someone else to fix the heater and home warrany will only give me a cash out for 60% of the price. So I think Air Tek possibly just want to charge home warranty for diagnosis and doesn't want to actually fix my heater. I any rate I feel Air Tek caused undue delays to my heater been fixed. I agree with reviews of the poor customer service from Robin and the lack of professionalism and obligation to fix a client's problem. The technician is a nice guy. That was the only reason why I gave them repeat business. And they are a HVAC contractor working with Fidelity Home Insurance. What I don't like is when you call someone on a Monday and they said they will get back to you on the same day but didn't. I called her back on Tuesday and told her I was waiting for her call yesterday but didn't get a response. Then she went on to say they are a one person crew and they are very busy from Fidelity Home Insurance clients. I told Robin that's fine if you are busy and if you don't want my business just say so, so that I can move on with another company and I don't have to wait for you. Just be honest at the very start. Another major issue is that you have time to take someone $75 service call but you don't have time to fix the problem, which I offered to compensate by asking for an estimate, just because Fidelity keep sending you clients. By accepting more clients than what you can handle shows lack of integrity and responsibility as a business. You are supposed to help the clients you took on first before moving on to the next. Then she gets a fit and said that I was angry when in fact she was the one who is being angry at me. Of course, I am displease with their service. Who wouldn't. I'm a busy business woman. I don't like people wasting my time. She said I was angry with her when she called me on Saturday. When in fact she called me on Monday, Memorial Day, May 30th actually. I was not angry with her but was displease on how she was inaccurate on her accounts of events. She called me and told me she confirm the appointment with my tenant but the tenant did not answer her phone on the day of the service. I asked her did she spoke to my tenant at some point in time to confirm the appointment time at 10:30 am and she said she did confirm. I told her if tenant confirm with you over the phone, then appointment is confirm. Right? Later she called to tell me that tenant was not there at 10:00 a.m. I asked her, you said you did spoke to her directly to confirm the time? She then said she does not remember if spoken to her or may have left a message instead and that is the same as spoken confirmation. Not in my world! And the appointment time is changed from 10:30 am to 10:00 am. I said fine call the tenant to arrange another time and have a nice holiday weekend. There is so many contradiction here it's drive a person crazy. This is poor record keeping for any business. I can tell she was mad about the phone call because she threaten to charge me extra even though that is not how Fidelity does business. They are not suppose to charge for the second trip. She can try to but it won't happen. That was the third and last time I will be using their services. No wonder Robin started losing her composure and start getting into a fit. I had to hang up during her temper tantrum. I will not waste any more of my time with this company. What is the point in arguing with her? Very unprofessional and much like speaking to a child. I found another company that will take care of my HVAC needs. Friendly customer service and well-staffed! My advice is find a company that can handle your case from start to finish and will not bail out on you in the middle of a project. Extremely poor customer service from Robin! I was told by this company that our duct work was leaking even though the technician couldn't climb in the attic to inspect it. When I contacted the company and told them what had happened Robin claimed he wasn't able to do it because he had a knee injury which sucks but when I asked why would they send someone out who couldn't perform the job properly Robin freaked out demanding an apology. I then told her I was the one who had paid to have a service performed which was done in a poor manner. Demanding an apology from me just added to the level of unprofessionalism I was already experiencing. When I asked for the name of her boss Robin hung up the phone immediately. This company was referred to me by a home warranty I let them know what had happened and let them know I do not want someone from this company at my home again. Fidelity which has provided great customer service in the past apologized and told me they would not be using this company again. I understand dealing with people isn't easy but when your a business owner I feel the person dealing with the customer should remember that they are dealing with someone who has paid for their services and show them respect. Air Tek contacted me regarding a new issue with my air conditioning, and to be honest, I'm furious at how I've been treated. I booked an appt. for a 4:00 - 8:00pm slot the following day and almost immediately called back to reschedule. I remembered I had another appt. that I couldn't be late for and had to leave my house at 5pm to arrive on time. The scheduler said that it made more sense to keep the appt. as is, and see if the tech arrived to check everything out before I had to leave. I was very hesitant to do this as he has to climb up in my attic and it may take awhile. Plus there's a $100 service fee and what if I needed to go before he had determined the problem. But she convinced me that it was the best route to take and it was "no problem". She told me if he doesn't arrive and it's getting close to the time I had to go, just to call her and she'd let him know that it was cancelled and we'd reschedule. Well, at 4:30pm he hadn't arrived, I called and did just that, cancelled with her and we decided she'd call me later in the week to reschedule. At 4:55pm just as my husband and I were getting ready to walk out the door, the technician pulled up in the drive way. I went out and said how sorry I was he didn't get the message that we had cancelled. He said he HAD received the message but decided he'd just show up anyway and see if we were here(!). I told him we were leaving and sent him away. The next day the scheduler called and I said Friday afternoon would work for me if the tech was available. She asked if I was available Friday morning and I emphatically said no, and that if he wasn't available Friday afternoon it could wait to schedule next week as it wasn't urgent. The next night at 7:30pm I got a voicemail from Air Tek. My phone goes on Do Not Disturb at 7pm every night so I didn't see the message until 10:30pm. The message said that she had scheduled the tech to be at our house at 7:00am the next morning. WTH? I texted her back (as I know the number is a cell phone) and also called and left a long voicemail restating everything from our conversation the day before and restating that they should absolutely NOT send someone to my house at 7am the next morning as no one would answer the door. And you'll never believe what happened the next day at 7am...they came to the house, with no one to open the door. Lastly, Air Tek called the warranty company and told them that they had made two appointments with me and I had NO SHOWED (ARGH) and that they didn't want to work with me any more. The warranty company contacted another company to schedule the work, but are you freaking kidding me? My husband brought up a good point that they probably don't care whether they schedule a time when you're not available because they can say it was a no show and still bill the warranty company. Great integrity there, eh? If you're looking for a company to just show up when it's least convenient for you, even when you ask them not to, then Air Tek's the company for you. read more

I was dealing with my first ever Central AC problem and was referred to Air Tek by my home warranty company. The company was great at getting the repair done and Doug was an excellent technician. He took time to explained how my unit worked and explained the problem in details. He was friendly, up beat and wanted to answer any questions I had. Literally the worst business interaction that I've had in years. This is going to be a long story, so I apologize in advance. Summary is that they didn't even try to diagnose my furnace's problem and then when their "solutions" didn't work they took days between appointments to come back out and not fix the furnace. My HVAC trained friend and I diagnosed the problem within an hour with only a voltimeter and some logic. I would give them a rating of "take away their business license" if yelp had that option. Imagine that you are a new homeowner and your gas furnace stops working during one of the coldest weeks on record. Luckily you purchased a warranty that is supposed to cover the costs of repairing faulty appliances in the home for a period of time. PHEW. The warranty company calls their service provider to come out and diagnose and fix the problem. You have to take time out of work in the morning to be able to accommodate their schedule, but no problem. It's cold and you just want your furnace to work so you and your 9 month pregnant wife can get your final nights of rest before your newborn arrives. Out of sheer dumb luck your furnace turns on the night before the tech is scheduled to arrive, but promptly stops working again for the rest of the night. Then in the morning it kicks on again just before the tech arrives. You say to yourself "well they are professionals so I'm sure they will just have to spend a little time diagnosing the problem." Instead when the tech arrives he looks at the furnace, tells you your air filter is dirty, says "Well looks like it's working to me," and requests the service fee for your warranty. You pay him because it is what the warranty demands, but ask before he leaves with your check "Aren't there any tests or diagnostics you could run to figure out what is going on?" The tech says, "Not with it working like it is." You ask intelligently "What if it stops working after you leave?" He says, "Call back and we will come back out." He hands you his business card. It says Owner/Tech Supervisor. Hmmmmmmmm. Seems sketchy if the owner of the business won't take the time to fix the problem. Of course you are right. The furnace brings the house up to temp, then when it shuts down it doesn't come back on. You call Air Tek and your wife calls the warranty company. They don't schedule to come out to your house until the following afternoon. Again you have to leave work early to accomodate this, but you are sure it's worth it because you will be warm. The same "owner/tech" shows up and pokes around for a bit. When he is done your furnace is on. You ask what was wrong. He says "I don't really know, but I replaced (something on the gas line) because it sounded funny." You were certain it acted more like an electrical problem so you ask about that. He again say "I don't really know," and promptly leaves. You know that you will be cold again tonight. You finally decide to call in the cavalry. You call your friend who is a trained in HVAC. You didn't want to do this in the first place because, well, you had a warranty and they were going to send professionals to fix your problem so why waste his time. He is gracious enough to leave his sick partner on a Friday night to come over. With only a voltmeter and the troubleshooting guide on the back of the furnace panel (HINT HINT DOUG! THE ANSWERS ARE ON THE PANEL ON THE FURNACE) we diagnose the problem in about an hour. You call the warranty company who calls Air Tek and asks them to expedite a service request to your house at 8pm on Friday night. You don't hear from Air Tek until 3pm Saturday, and they say they won't come out until Sunday. As of this posting the problem is still not resolved and because they installed a part the warranty company says we have to use these people. We are doing everything we can to have anyone else come out and fix this furnace. Boy it's cold in here... read more

My Home warranty company Fidelity called these people, AirTek, the owner Doug came out THREE - FOUR times, then stated after all that, he doesn't know what's wrong with the heater. First, he did replace the Curcuit board, which was definitely needed..... but then the heat stopped working, yet Again!! Three different times. And, he was paid by warranty. Results, still no heat!! Which is when he realized, he couldn't figure out what else could be wrong with the heater. OH!! And when Doug replaced the circuit board, he didn't even put it back where he found it, he hooked it up, then left it hanging! What a nice guy right!! So Danny at Hoyt Mechanical came in and totally saved the day, he put the circuit board back in it's correct place AND gave me heat!! I even have heat upstairs too YAY. I say that bc Doug said I didn't need it upstairs. The heck we didn't! Speak for yourself dude. We were freezing!! Even upstairs, why wouldn't we?! read more

I was very impressed with Air Tek. I was told about them from a friend and I gave them a call when my A/C stopped working. The owner called me back quickly and told me he would come to my house in the evening when I was available. He showed a true commitment to his business. He arrived when he said he would. After explaining the situation to him, he told me what the possible problems could be. He kept me very informed. He started with an inspection of the unit and controllers. He found the problem during the inspection which wasn't even one of the problems he had mentioned. It was a simple fix and he had my A/C running within 10 minutes of arriving at my house. As a renter I am at the mercy of the landlord as to who they use as contractors and in this case I would not have chosen AirTek as the one I would call. In a 2 week span I had to deal with the "Manager" Robin McCall (aka owner's wife) on a few occasions and can say that the interactions were argumentative, rude and unprofessional. These interactions were prior to the scheduled service. My heater broke down during the first rainy cold spell of this winter and having a little one at home needed to have the unit repaired. I had to argue with Robin in order to convince her that I the unit had issues. In frustration I did not schedule an appointment and heated my home by way of the oven 24/7! I finally had enough and with my daughter being sick needed real heat so had to call the landlord's handyman to arrange an last minute appointment. The time of choice was either 6am or later in the afternoon the day before Thanksgiving. At 5:30am I turned the heater on to ensure the unit was not working I was set to meet the technician bright and early. 6:10am is considered late from where I come from and called the office only to get the voicemail. Robin did call back to confirm the technician would be late and the reason given was that he had been up past midnight the night before. UNPROFESSIONAL! UNACCEPTABLE! I had been up all night with a sick child so I have little tolerance and patience for "professionals" who give me excuses when they are getting paid to perform a service. The technician arrived 30 minutes late and to my surprise was the Owner, Doug McCall. He introduced himself only as Doug and went straight to work. Within 1 1/2 hours my heater was working after having the original 20 yr.old gas valve replaced, cells replaced and filter cleaned. My 2-STAR review is based more on the lack of professionalism on Robin's part - she shouldn't be the person to speak with customers because of her lack of CUSTOMER SERVICE skills. This woman clearly needs to take courses in which she learns communication skills in addition to the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. That phone call is the first impression and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Doug was the the saving grace - he was polite, friendly and worked efficiently. I was referred to Air Tek through my home warranty. After reading their reviews I was a little scared since they really had no good reviews. The service technician "Mike" came out 'on his way home.' He diagnosed the problem of my A/C blowing hot air as the motor being bad. He said that he didn't have one on his truck, but he'd put in an order for it and be back the next night 'on his way home again.' I said that was fine. I got home from work and notice that he hadn't been here. (it was Friday night after 7pm). So I decided to call the company. I was surprised that someone answered.....it was the owners wife Robin. She said that she could only give me the technicians phone number because the part that I needed is a 4 day wait. I asked why he said he'd be back the next day and all she wanted to do is refer me to the technician. I asked to speak to the Owner(her husband) and she said he wasn't available. I asked why I wasn't notified earlier about the 4 day wait period for ordering and she had no answer. So now this service technician has my A/C motor along with the fan and I've paid my service call fee and have no knowledge of when my A/C will be fixed. I think that the technician should not promise something when it can't be done or at least call the customer to let them know. I would NEVER go with this company! I asked "Robin" if she'd ever looked up her companies Yelp reviews and she said that none of these were theirs even though the phone # matches. I spoke to the technician Mike and he stated he called the "office" to let them know my part wouldn't be available for 5-7 days and asked that they call me. I never got that phone call. read more

very professional!! Doug did a great job! My rental property's AC stopped working. I called home warranty. It took a few days for the first vendor came over to check. The guy is ruled (per my tenant) and reported to HW that the system is too old to repair and needs a replacement. He couldn't even detect what the problem is ( what part is broken). He told hw that it's existing problem. You can imagine what hw told me. :( I insisted that info was totally wrong, wrong, and wrong! I requested the second opinion. Doug from Air Tek came and changed capacitor, then AC is backing to work. My tenant is so happy and told me he felt cool now after ten days! I need a new Furnace my Fidelity Insurance sent them to my home and they are paid $5000 by my insurance and wanted another $3200 from me I knew they were charging me for things I didn't need so I called my insurance and they agreed so sent Hoyt Mechanical out, they charged me about half the price and agreed that all items were not required like the thermometer that was only 2 year's old they said I had to replace it and they were charging $450 for that and many other things, Hoyt is a great company. read more

Yikes its two days before Thanksgiving and yes the family is coming, and my heater desides to stops working! Burrrr!!!! But no problem, I scheduled appointment with Air Tek and they have already been here and left. I am a stickler about customer service and how in general it is non existant anymore but to my surprise this was the best overall experience i've had in some time. Not only did Doug fix the problem very quickly but he went above and beyone and also installed a new thermostat that I had on hand.
