I started coming to the Homestead Inn, off and on in the mid-90s after hurricane Andrew destroyed south Florida.
Over that time span, I have seen VAST improvements in the facilities here. Initially it was just a basic place to "flop" if you were on duty or passing through to the Keys.
Now each room is fairly large, with a fridge, microwave, private bath and a fairly comfortable bed. Each building has a free laundry room as well.
If you can swing it, the newest building (410) which is for VIPs and VOQ is also the nicest.
The "Club"/chowhall is about 300 yards away, open for lunch during the week, fairly priced and pretty tasty.
Are these the best accommodations in the area? No, BUT for the price and the safety it's a darn good place to stay. read more
