I read reviews of the Aims machine shop before taking my Bultaco motorcycle cylinder there to be re-bored, but figured there was no way they could stay in business almost 50 years and treat customers the way the negative reviews suggested they do. Lucky guess for me. I called Aims to find out if they could do the job, the cost, and when it would be done. I wasn't exactly thrilled by a 4 week turn-around, but it did demonstrate that the company has a thriving business, so somebody likes them, even if they don't rush out to do a positive review. So I brought Aims my cylinder and in a little less than the 4 weeks they estimated, I got a call that the work was completed. I came by the next day, paid for the work and took my parts back home. Job done, price as stated, happy customer. A 5 star rating is the right thing to do. As an aside, the guys at the front desk are uniformly courteous, capable and helpful. I had a bolt sheer off in a high-end BBK brake caliper. Most likely thanks to poor installation by the dealership. The brake shop I was dealing with was in over their heads with the problem. I called around to several shops and finally found AIMS who was willing to perform the repair work. I picked up the calipers from the brake shop and took the to AIMS. Kyle helped me out. The calipers were turned around in a few hours with clean threads and a few helicoils. read more

Brought In cylinder head for 6.0 ls blockBroken valve guide Kyle working the front counter refused to do just one guide so we had to do a whole valve job all guides all seals and it would take three weeks he said it wasn't worth it to their company to do just one valve guide I offered to pay $100 for the one guide to be installed they refused. Horrible customer service major attitude problem will never do business with him again I took to a plus machine shop they had no problem doing it had it done within an hour and I paid a premium for doing the one valve guide total cost $87 which included Valve lapping. read more

I'm VERY unhappy with this shop. Very poor communication, very poor quality, very poor customer service. I wanted a high end overhaul on a vintage boat Graymarine 327. I paid for a high end job. I like nice work. Engine blew up in five hours. Turns out no new parts that I was billed for. Valves not replaced. Wrong clearance guides. Crap work. No consideration even if I brought disassembled components into the shop. I cannot believe how bad their work is on even a low tech engine as mine. I hate to beat up a small business, but unacceptable. I did indeed phone and talk with Kyle. He told me no warranty. It was not a partial rebuild. It was over $5000 and I discover many consumable parts, (valves, seats,) not replaced. Five hours is exactly correct per Hobbs meter. It's a wood boat that runs in show only. Never run hard. NoDishonest and poor work on my 327 vet engine. Antonio lied to my face about what had been done. Would not refund me after I complained about it. Tried to call the owner but he doesn't care about it. I felt that they were trying to take advantage of me because I am female! Called the Attorney General and filed complaint and cancelled the credit card payment. Save your time go anywhere else. Can't believe they are still in business! The worst work ever. Took a head to a XT250R they swore they could fix, called me a month later to tell me they destroyed it and would be buying a new head a month later they called to tell me it was ready for pick up. I went paid them $303.00 to find out they had not purchased a new head they claim to have fixed it, NOT the valves leaked so badly we ended up buying a new head for $655.00 so we are out over $900.00 and can't charge our customer for AIM's screw up lack of customer service. The manager wouldn't even look at the issue with us DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS, FIND ANOTHER MACHINE SHOP! read more

I met an employee of Aims, I needed a block gone through so I asked Griffis to take it to the shop and get working on it. That was the first part of June 2020, I kept calling to get an update on the work and nothing was done. I asked Griffis when he took it what would the time line would be. He assured me it would be done within a couple of weeks to just a few weeks. This didn't happen! it was a couple of months before it was started. I'm a patient guy and my car wasn't ready for it so ok, Let's get it going. I purchased all of the parts and pieces to save money but had it all drop shipped from the supplier straight to Aims shop. Then time drug on again, This time I talked to owner/Manager and was going to pull it all and he talked me out of it saying the shop would get on it. Never happened! I had a problem of getting Bearings and the companies kept send me the wrong bearings of .10 under instead of 0.. I wanted king's xr series and they kept back ordering. The front desk guy was a great guy always willing to try and help out. He offered to get the bearings. which he did but got Cleveland instead of Kings. I wanted implicitly Kings. But I lived with it just to go along. I in the mean time purchased a new set of Bare ALuminum heads and wanted Aims to fill the valves in and Labor. Three weeks later the heads were still in the box. I asked Kyle to stop any and all work immediately. It's now the end of October 2020 and this job is still not done. I Picked everything up. Now for my work which was supposed to be done in a few weeks brought my patients to an end. Ohh, ABove all. I was going to have Aims to assemble to a short block and was given a $400.00 quote to do this. But, Then later I was informed they would not guaranty their work to assemble the block because I hadn't purchased the parts from them. Everything I furnished was dropped ship to them and everything was new in boxes but they wouldn't Guarantee their Labor. That was just another deal breaker. PLEASE!!! Read reviews and check them out before leaving any work and I would really advise to take it to one of the many reputable shops in the Reno Nevada area Which is now what I have to do. to have the work completed.. Horrible machine work. Asked them to turn my crankshaft 10/10 and they turned it 20/20 and put 10 under bearings in the motor so it wiped out my bearings and destroyed my crankshaft. They also lost one of my main caps and said I never gave it to them and charged me over $700 for minimal machine work. Would not recommend them to anybody read more

This place is a joke they had heads they said would take a couple of days took them over 2 weeks when Adams High Rollin Customs received the head they redid it was full of sand and metal shavings and Adam shot had to redo the head by taking it apart completely cleaning it and reassemble to install on brand new motor then call them and they did nothing about trying to fix the problem beware read more

This place of business has no regard for the customer. I took a crankshaft in to be ground down from a spun rod bearing. Was told by counter staff that it would be x amount and 3-4 weeks. Ok. At five weeks I contacted and was given the run around answer of we are busy and short staffed. And I was 3rd to 4th in line for crank grinding. At 8 weeks I went into this shop and was told next week I would get my part. Told counter staff by Friday he replied "if not sooner". So got lied to again. Went in on Tuesday of the following week and a different staff told me tomorrow it will be done. This guy was at least honest the next day my part was ready. The first counter staff checked me out and told me good luck with my part. Like this Fuck has any concern for customers. I hope to see him again one day. I wouldn't trust this place to sharpen a pencil let alone do machine work again. I'll buy a crate engine before I ever give this shit hole company my money. You can if you want to be lied too and wait an extra 5 weeks for work to be done. Good luck but this was my experience with this so called shop. read more

If I could give Aims 0 stars I would. I don't like to say bad stuff about a business, I run a small business myself. However, I think if you run a business you should do it with integrity. First off, I drop off my parts to be cleaned and the guy behind the counter tells me 150.00 but never wrote in the amount. Secondly, after about a week and a half I call to check status, was told I would be called back, never happened. After 2 weeks I call back and same thing. So.... the next day I wait for a call that never happened. At this point I went in and told them I wanted my parts and told the guy behind the counter, that I was upset about the fact that I was told 2 times I would be called back and that it never happened. With attitude he tells me that they are busy, my reply was I get that, I run a small business myself, However if I tell a customer I will call them back twice and don't, that's bad business. As I see it, if your busy and have fallen behind, you make a phone call, it's that simple! Lastly, the thing that really torqued me was the fact that he changed the price, I was told 150.00 then it became 170.00 and he then proceed to tell me he didn't charge me to clean the crankshaft, yet that was all wrote in when he told me the price, he just never wrote in an amount. Needless to say I paid it and this is why I'm doing this Yelp review. I believe if you shake a man's hand that is your bond. I'm old fashioned I guess and shady just doesn't fly with me. read more

Im not sure how AIMS is still in business. I brought them a brand new rotating assembly and 6.0 block from summit to build my 408 stroker. Somehow they lost an ARP rod bolt for my brand new in the box rods, they installed 5 out of 8 rod bearings upside down (chamfer on the inside) scarred my brand new cam bearings (looks like they didnt clean anything after using the parts washer), the list goes on and on. When i questioned the owner about all this he told me his wife was an attorney and he would counter sue if we went after him with a civil suit. I told him to go fuck himself and Id see him in court. Well Dave the counter manager stepped up and admitted the shops wrong doing and was able to get me some money back. Stay away from this place! It has been a while since I have been out to AIMS and things may have changed, but I've had a number of engines worked on at there and their service, professionalism, and craftsmanship have always been unreproachable. I have seen customers at the front desk reading whoever the riot act because they felt that a job was botched. I have always had the feeling that those customers expected miracles that would not have been possible anywhere. (I believe I saw this attitude twice in the 15 or 20 times I've been through the front door) I've also seen people walk in the front door as if they lived there, call to mechanics by name, say hello to the sec'ys, drop off a job, turn around the paperwork in a few seconds and fly out the door. It's my opinion that there are a great many people in the greater Reno area that rely on AIMS to keep their businesses running. It is only my opinion, but I think if you have reasonable expectations, the ability to explain exactly what you want, and a little patience you will get quality work at a fair price. read more

Terrible work and Dishonest. Stay away from this place at all costs! I took a cylinder head there to have it tested as I suspected it may be cracked from overheating. They "Pressure tested" it an told me it was good. After surfacing and cleaning the head for installation I saw a 2" long crack with the naked eye. I took it back and showed it to them, where they walked around in circles mumbling and wondering how they missed it. I asked for a refund of my $65 they charged me to test the head and they refused!! They said they performed a service and I have to pay for it. Apparently it does not matter to them that they do it wrong, they took my money and that is all there is to it. Don't waste time or money at AIMS when there is a competent machine shop in Reno. read more

Over charged us by about 30% of the quote for some made up reason, go to thumper racing in miden NV or send it into a different shop. It was a mistake not to use them for cylinder work. Pretty disappointing. read more
