Before coming into contact with Tichenor Orthopedic Clinic, I had advocated for my son, Champion,…read morein every way I knew how. After his autism diagnosis, I was desperately trying to get him the speech therapy, ABA, and other services he needed. I was being placed on waiting lists that were literally years long--some as long as three years. As a mother, that can become extremely discouraging. I had even gotten to the point where I was willing to pay out of pocket with money I really did not have, because I just wanted my child to receive the help he needed.
Then I found Tichenor, and it truly felt like a blessing.
Mayra listened to my story and everything I had gone through trying to advocate for my son. She was honest with me that their waiting list could be six to eight months or longer, but somehow, less than a month later, she was able to get Champion in. I cannot explain what that meant to me after being told "wait" and "no" so many times.
Champion was paired with his speech therapist, Mairead Finn, and she has been absolutely amazing. She has worked with my son with so much warmth, patience, care, and understanding. As a parent of a child with autism, you pay attention to how people treat your child, and I have always felt that Mairead genuinely cares about Champion and his progress. I could not ask for more from someone working with my son.
They were also able to get Champion into their swim program, despite that program having a long waiting list as well. Beyond the direct services, they connected me with additional resources and people who could help me navigate the school district, IEP process, and obtaining the special-education services my son needs.
And what continues to amaze me is that these services have been provided to our family at no cost to us, and Champion does not even live within their district. They still opened their doors to my child and helped our family.
To any parent who feels like they are at the end of their rope, who has been sitting on waiting lists, hearing "no," fighting for services, and wondering where to turn next: please reach out to Tichenor. My experience here reminded me that there are still people and organizations willing to listen, care, and help.
Thank you, Mayra, Mairead Finn, and everyone at Tichenor Orthopedic Clinic, for what you have done for Champion and our family. You have been a true blessing to us.
Five stars without hesitation.
