Raphael did an incredible job on my skin fade and beard shave. I went to my hair colorist the next day to get my highlights done and she looked at his work and said it was so detailed and well done that I shouldn't go to anyone else again for the cut I want. So I needed a haircut. It was late and I was seated at once, and greeted by a very professional perfectionist from Turkey. True American patriot this young man, and a good barber. Fellow barber was watching TV and shooting loads of politically incorrect loads at the things he saw there - not that it bothers me a bit, but made me react to it. Great experience, and I was looking for someone that could cut my hair especially someone that is good with people of colour. I walked in and a young lady name Ms Kerry said she can cut my hair and have years experience with cutting hair with people of colour. Well I was for one amazed at the work she did... I went to a male barber before her that cut ok . But Ms Kerry really does beautiful work I have been pleased with her work and does a better job 10xs better then the barbers I've been to. I would highly recommend her to anyone gentlea and women of colour. And if you are ppl of colour definitely trust her 110%. read more

Doesn't look like anybody has put anything on here recently so I wanted to leave something to help it seem up to date. Call ahead and see if they're taking walk ins that day. We live in a city, people, get used to it. There are a lot more than just you trying to get your hair cut on any given day. Anyway, I called ahead and the woman on the other side of the line was very friendly and genuine so I figured I was in good hands. I got there and they were very welcoming and greeted me as I came in. There's a little woman from Russia that cut my hair and even trimmed my beard. I have to say, my **** looks good. I'm very particular and detail oriented so trust me when I say she does a good job. The woman who cut my hair can't speak too much English so if you have her just don't expect to make too much conversation unless you're fluent in Russian (I'm not). She definitely takes her time, but she has an eye for the little details and a steady hand. I paid a bit more than I had initially expected (I tipped her well for her outstanding work) but I couldn't be more satisfied. Anyway I hope this helps! read more

Amazing place to get a cut. Boris is a very nice guy with an interesting story, and the rest of the employees in there are super friendly as well. As far as my cut, it had been a while so I definitely needed some shaping up on the sides and the top. Boris gave me probably the best cut I've ever had. They need to change their sign to walk ins welcome - when we feel like it. Ive gone here about eight times over a year. I've probably left after showing at least that many times. Depending on time of year ill do a 0-1 high and tight fade or a 1/2 to 1&1/2 taper with a little length on the top. I don't think I'm extremely picky - my wife usually complains about my cut before I do... Here's their typical scenario: two barbers in their chair or one cutting one sitting - ask for a cut and they will say they have a reservation, but there is a retiree in the back willing to cut your hair. He's always in the back, it seems. He is very nice, and other reviews seem happy with him, but if you need any type of fade/ taper, you should avoid. I feel bad writing this but I've had at least three of his cuts, all strikes - so I have to warn against anyone wanting a precise cut... The only female barber , kerry?, does good at a taper. She is professional and friendly and a person that makes you feel good about life in general. Couldn't say enough about how nice these two are. The main guy, mike?, has the best fade skills, but good luck having him tell you he's available. Also, prepare to hear his soapbox diatribe, I guarantee you'll get it. This guy is not down with the concept that if you talk about sex, politics, or religion in a big enough room you'll offend someone. Im beginning to think he thinks he belongs on am radio. That being said, he DOES give a very good cut. Since you're going to get his diatribe no matter which chair you sit in, go with him. Being forced to turn down a less than stellar cut and/or waiting while a barber you're waiting for waits WITH you for their reservation is awkward. I've had me and two other barbers sitting with opposite angles of turn down guilt for what seemed like eternity before I've just decided to come back another time. Its less than enjoyable, especially when you can't turn down the primary barbers incessant noise, but it's even worse when you're all just sitting there. Kerry works part-time at this shop and is very good. But ... I've been going to salons for many years and haven't been to a true barber shop in a long while. I can accept being within earshot of the conversations about politics, guns, sports, etc., but I was shocked when the owner of the shop told an outrageously rude joke about a woman with Alzheimers being raped. This has got to be the best barber shop I've ever been to in my 38 years on this planet. I was always getting terrible haircuts at places like Great Clips and Hair Cuttery (when I lived in Virginia Beach), and I just assumed it was because I naturally had jacked-up hair. After getting my first haircut from Israel (the barber, not the country), I know I'd have a hard time looking elsewhere. Best experience I have had. I've spent soc years looking for a barber that not only provided the level of service i needed, but one that had the "barber shop" feel to it. Every time I would find one, the barber would transfer elsewhere, but then I found this one. Walking in after work, Boris took me in and gave me a cut. I wasn't expecting the hot towel, straight edge, or even to like my cut (been so desensitized by Supercuts), but it's safe to say that I'll call this "home" and come for as long as they have an "open" sign. read more

My mother is a hair stylist in California and the only person who I trusted to cut my hair for most of my life. That is until I met Boris at Ahwatukee Barbers. Now, I trust him with my hair more than I trust my own mother. I'm never disappointed by his work. When I was in law enforcement, he always gave me the perfect high and tight. Do not come here if you need a fade, tried telling the barber who also happens to be the owner what I wanted, but he didn't know what to do and when I asked him to fix it he seemed unwilling and annoyed. Might of just gone to great clips if I wanted a crappy hair cut. read more

Interesting experience. I came in for a hair trim, because I wanted to look sharp for an important business meeting. I usually wait 2-3 months between haircuts but this time it had only been about a month. I had been to this shop a couple of times previously and had been quite satisfied. This is the first time with Boris. The haircut seemed fine but I thought it was unusual that it was finished with my head wet. I didn't say anything because I assume that professionals know their job. When I got home and washed and blow dried my hair I could see that it was irregular and jagged looking. I returned the next day to try and get it fixed. Boris looked at it and tried to comb it down and suggested that I should apply gel and that there was nothing he could do to fix it. If I want to go around with hair plastered down by gel, then I really don't need a skilled barber. Needless to say I was very dissatisfied. I've been getting haircuts for 50 years and never had one turn out that bad and then to be told - sorry nothing I can do just adds insult to injury. Needless to say, I'm not going back there since my experience is that almost ANY other barber can do a better job on my hair. read more

I have been going to Ahwatukee barbers for some time. The sign out front says "Drop in's Welcome". The only problem is if the barbers have appointments they come first which is the way it should be. The problem is that none of them, especially the owner won't even let you know that you have to wait for an extremely long time. Just as the previous review stated "no attention to customers". Doesn't matter anymore, they lost a customer. read more

Worst fade ever, almost embarrassing..for 17$ id expect there to be a blend not a line on the back of my head were you can clearly see the different lengths..NOT a barbershop, more comparable to a great clips. Warm towel at the end is the only reason for not giving 1 star. read more

Are you looking for a great flat top? I had my barber retire and move to Texas after going to him for 15+/- years. I tried many "barber shops" but can't find one that cuts a good old-school flat top. This was my third time to Ahwatukee Barbers and my second visit using Mike (today). Yes Mike, the guy that people complain about his outspoken opinions. Yes, he does not hold back. It may not agree with your opinions or views, but are you there for company and companionship or a haircut? He's the best I've found in my quest for a GOOD flat top in the last 3 months. I usually get mine cut every two weeks, so that's a lot of trial and error until I got in to him. Give him a try for regular cuts, fades or whatever styling you need. He's very particular, attentive and proud of his cuts. I'll keep going back! read more

So I'm writing this review after going to this barbershop twice and if there is one thing to take away is too AVOID THIS PLACE. The first experience I had there was with Boris who seemed like he didn't even want to be cutting hair (which is kind of a requirement for a barber), but the haircut was acceptable. I had asked for a #2 on the sides and to keep the length on top with a quick blend in between. What I got was a #2 on the sides and about a 3/8 of an inch off the top. The second time I went, I asked for the same thing only this time I was with the lady at the far end of the shop. The haircut started off okay and then took a turn for worst. After doing the sides, she proceed to remove nearly all of the length I had been trying to grow out since my last haircut with Boris (about 1.5 inches). Even through I had specifically said to 'leave the length on top". Before I had even paid my bill ($17 plus tip, which is too high for the hack job I got) I told myself that I will NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN. There are too reasons why I won't visit again. First, is that the staff is not friendly at all. I tried to make small both times I went and got nothing in return. Okay, so some people don't like to talk but what is unacceptable is when staff make their customers feel unwelcome. Secondly, these "barbers" don't listen to their customers requests. It's one thing for a barber to suggest an alternative strategy but to completely disregard what your customer is asking for is a dealer breaker. read more

I don't normally write reviews.. just base future patronage on existing ones. I was sold at the "inexpensive" rating, especially considering other barbershops in the area are listed at higher prices. I was a little concerned that this place was no longer open, as the last review was over 2 years ago! Rest assured that it is still indeed open. I arrived at 0745 - 15 minutes before their sign says they open and he was open. I got right in and was given amazing treatment. Best haircut I've had in a long time.
