The grounds in Venture Out were good, nice place, There were a list of things a mile long that were broken in the rental. It took a little while to realize because the place was so dirty. We called Cindy's office and her husband Ken was rude and combative with us. I would not recommend this Realtor for property management or rentals. Driver was suppose to contact us with name and number on Feb. 16th, and never did. On the wedding day, Saturday, February 17, driver called at 11:32am to confirm service and to say that service may be late because they had a pickup in Key West at the Airport and service may not start until 3:30pm or 4:00pm, which was unacceptable. Driver called back at 2:52pm and said he was still in Key west. He called a third time at 4:09pm to say he was one key (30 minutes away), by which time nearly all the guests had made their way to the wedding venue (changing travel plans and causing chaos). I disputed the charge through PayPal which has a fairly useless dispute process - although Florida Keys Shuttle offered to refund $450. Luckily, my PayPal is paid via an American Express card and I filed a dispute with AmEx and it was granted within a week and they reversed the charge. Don't waste your time with these unreliable fraudsters.

We flew into Marathon airport from Alabama and South Carolina, and got picked up by one of the hosts, and we loaded onto a boat to the island. We were floored by how amazing the place was, how well thought out and well built it was, and the outstanding views, beaches and other amenities. Everything was solar powered, and there was plenty of power for our needs. We have been back three more times over the years, and each time it is even better than before. Seabird Key is a vacation experience that you will never forget. Great restaurants nearby, a seafood market if you want to cook at the island, and the fishing is great. Snorkeling and diving are as good as anywhere. Now there are very fine photos of the place to help people know what to expect, so there should be no hesitation in booking a stay there. We met the owners, and they are wonderful people who know how to put it all together for your enjoyment.

It sits on its own beach and is very quiet and serene. Breakfasts were an "event" with hot egg and meat breakfast dishes, fresh fruit and a variety of breads along with juice and bottomless coffee served in an atrium that was open to the skies and full of rocks and plants. The Barnacle is now under new ownership and the atmosphere has changed dramatically. We recently stayed there for six nights, from a Tuesday to the next Monday. Gone are the varied colors, rocks and plants. The atrium is now roofed over and has all the charm of a high-school cafeteria. The color is primarily beige as is the experience. Breakfast is now serve-yourself cold continental. Saturday and Sunday were "special" because, without any warning, explanation, apology or compensation, there was no breakfast at all. Not a scrap to be found nor anyone from management or staff to provide it. We were left completely alone to our own devices. Good luck. There are some other changes to the Barnacle as well, specifically the posted warnings "This property is under 24-hour surveillance" with cameras to boot. There's even one on the rooftop sundeck which seems not only intrusive but not a little bit creepy as well. All this was ours for the premium price of $450 per night. They get two stars because it was clean, the AC in the room worked and the bed was comfortable. But that's where the "good news" ends. Over the years, we've recommended to many people that they should stay at the Barnacle. Now, and it pains us to say this, we have to recommend you don't.
