It has been a long time since I've been shopping with my mother for Indian groceries. I may even have been an adolescent pre my London days who hated the boredom of it and preferred to stay in the car.
I went today to our local store and it was certainly interesting. Here we have what is a very basic affair (shelves are rare, printed signs are a luxury and barcodes, I scoff at your puny barcodes!) in what is essentially a converted warehouse with car parking that sits by the large ASDA in Hyde town centre. They have a range of things that I'd never seen before such as banana flower, micro mangoes and even unusual varieties of pea pods.
They also have a large range of spices, a halal butcher, Indian supplies such as rice in bulk and a frozen food section. The people today seemed pretty helpful though I'm told that they can get the prices wrong, probably due to the aforementioned lack of barcodes.
Overall this is a well priced and interesting little Bangladeshi grocery shop that is convenient for us. read more
