Fantastic on stock, not so good on presentation, but who cares....It' all there!! I love this place. In fact I love any place that stocks what Asda, Tesco's et al don't. Those giants have killed the local grocery stores by undercutting them into the ground. So plenty of small local grocers have had to close because new Tesco's keep popping up everywhere.
Quietly but surely though, one type of grocer or food store has had relatively no knock back effect from these corporates. You see as big as they are, these super markets cannot compete with the local Asian grocer. Why? Because they simply do not have enough market knowledge about South Asian food retail market. Its diversity bamboozles them. What's more consumers from that part of the world are better educated about their food there then they are here. I mean lets face it, all we do is go and buy bread or milk or eggs from these super markets without ever really giving much thought to the source. Sure we occasionally read labels, but can we really trust them??? Have we forgotten only recently the Nike debacle or countless other scandals. It's a numbers game for these Giants. They don't care about consumers!!!!!! They care about profit margins!!! How much will production cost?? How much will a lawsuit from the government cost?? How often can we get caught, its simple maths for them, the consumer can go to hell as far as they're concerned, its collateral damage!!!
These places haven't been polluted yet and it shows. The meat is fresh and tender, the rice are fantastic quality. The fruit doesn't look stepford wives perfect nor plastic and genetically modified. It's refreshing. It feels like a down to earth food market, and I love it.
The biggest bonus of places like this is that you find amazing new drinks and little treats that you would never find in your local supermarket. I love that feeling of discovering something new. One such thing you can get from here is a drink called "Rooh Afza". This is an absolute beauty!! A refreshingly sweet and tasteful beverage at the mere mention of which I go all mushy inside. A bit like Robinson's squash this versatile rose syrup like drink can be mixed with ice and water in the summer, with milkshake or even desserts of your choice. It's just so sweet and the flavour is just out of this world. I have used this in all sorts of things, baffling my friends who all have fallen in love with it. It goes so well with milkshake and you can even make your own faluda using it and other ingredients!! Yummy!!!!!
Thank you Worldwide foods for you really have given a foodie hope that in the monotone walmarts of this world there are earthly outlets where delicious treats unheard of anywhere else, reside waiting to be discovered.
So.... Leave your inhibitions at home, better still leave them down the toilet at your next number 2 stop, and pay this gem a visit!!! You regret it not, I tell thee!!! read more
