Asda on London Road in Hazel Grove is a fairly decent sized supermarket, although styled as "Asda…read moreSupermarket", it is slightly smaller than a Superstore and doesn't have all the facilities you'd expect to find in an ASDA such as an optician, café or an ASDA branded pharmacy (There are a few small kiosks inside the store, offering a Post Office, and a Well branded pharmacy as well as a former travel agent which has now shut down due to being owned by Thomas Cook) The product range is reduced to what you'd usually find in an ASDA store, while they do have a good range of products and most the range you'd expect, the number of products and then the different types of a similar product is limited, for example, the milk section was rather small and they didn't have the large Lipton Iced Teas, but they still had a small selection of what you'd expect, making this place OK if you're not too bothered about flavours/brands etc. It isn't the best supermarket in Hazel Grove, and I much prefer Sainsbury's, but I do prefer this store to the larger location in Stockport town centre nearby. You potentially would be able to do a weekly shop here but it would be a big push and reliant on your flexibility and luck, but there are much larger supermarkets nearby whether you're looking for an ASDA or Sainsbury's, so that does make it better. 4* - Slightly generous rating given the fact it is far from the best supermarket in the area in terms of choice of groceries but it is different, it has some cool and unique parts about the shopping experience which I like, as they do have a good number of facilities here and I do prefer this to the larger ASDA store, the Post Office is handy and it is useful that they have managed to get a pharmacy to be located here, but I do find it strange Asda missed the opportunity to add their own pharmacy here, which they have in many other stores, again including Stockport nearby.

Loads of free onsite parking, just make sure you register your vehicle on the monitors before leaving or you may get a fine.

They have Amazon Lockers here, but they aren't fully accessible due to being located behind the hand sanitising station and a poorly placed sign at the front of the store, it would be a good idea to move them, even if it is temporary during the pandemic. The Free From section was pretty good for both gluten and dairy-free. The checkout area was poorly managed, there didn't seem to be any staff anywhere which added to the confusion and mess, whether it be at the self-service checkouts or around the store. 3* - OK supermarket, a decent selection of goods, but there are obviously much better/larger supermarkets in Stockport town centre.

Our first introduction to Lakeland Groceries involved giant bags of Barbecue Doritos for less than a quid, and huge quantities of eggs at criminally low prices (free range before you start finger-wagging!). Wow, where had this place been all our lives? Situated right near Castlefield Gallery, it seems to be operated by one or two friendly staff, and it's a lovely hotch-potch corner-shop-like offering with a surprising range of products. Anything from a stonkingly generous variety of cheeses to pretty much a whole deli counter, snacks and store cupboard essentials and bits and bobs. You can even buy a bit of booze here if you've had a hard day at the office. So, The Southern Gateway eh. Sarah-Anne M's right, this residential area doesn't have a single recognisable retail outlet less than a ten minute walk away. Not only do they have a really impressive range of everything you could expect, from chocolate and crisps to newspapers to necessities such as ketchup and tobasco, but they also have a cold meat and cheese counter! It's a little mini version of the Cheese Hamlet in Didsbury, with a great selection of different cheeses and cold meats that are much much cheaper than your usual cheese shop prices. You know the ones I'm talking about, the ones that've been driving out small independents outta business across across the country. I LOVE the fact that the communities remain militantly loyal to local foodstores like Madina. Upon close inspection, turns out the reason is a little more complex than just cultural affiliation. One of the main one reasons? This place is AWESOME!! There's literally a library of spices to buy (at BARGAIN prices) and experiment at home with. Any foodie/charlie out there who's sick of the monotonous nature of the shopping experience, will find this to be their culinary/chocolate factory. True, London probably bigger volume of such establishments, but they probably cant beat us for sheer quality. So next time you're stuck in traffic driving to town on Stockport road (through Levenshulme) have a break, and instead of having a kitkat, park up and have a cheeky gander.

With the UK 'hungry gap' upon us, I bagged a box of lychees plus sundry Desi vegetable and fresh herbs. Freshness of the produce was very good, although a bit of banter with a Desi customer revealed that he was passing up on the tinda as being too big - although this is no doubt an out-of-season issue. For the mobile cosmopolitan foodie such as myself, the aim is to know where all the ethnic food stores are so that ethnic food shopping can be done with a minimum of detour from other city business and pleasure. Although there is nothing really oustanding about Madina Superstore to make you travel beyond your nearest Desi superstore, it is nice to have a proper Desi supermarket in Levenshulme to save Levy locals a trip up Stockport Road to Longsight. And visitors such as myself can combine a visit to Madina Superstore with a trip to the monthly Levy Market, or else the permanent Trove café bakery or POD deli.

The car park appears to be shared by the Civic Hall and includes a doctor's surgery, but you do get two hours of free parking which is surely enough to do your shopping. I had some issues scanning my gift card at the self-checkout due to the sunlight reflection making it difficult for me to read the screen, and the screen to read the product barcodes, but a staff member noticed the kerfuffle I was facing and offered assistance, without me having to ask him. The store was reasonably well stocked, but I was unable to find the Waitrose Free From crumpets that I had come in for. The store layout could do with some work, as the coffee on offer appeared to be separate from the rest of the coffee section, which made little sense, as it was in a different area of the store. PRO TIP: Bring your reusable cup and get a free coffee with a MyWaitrose card 3* - A decent supermarket, with many positives for sure including the staff but far from perfect, it would also be useful for the store to have evening openings past 20:00 during the week.

While it isn't the most modern of locations in terms of the interior and did seem to require a small refurb to match some of their newer branches, I always enjoy driving past this store on the motorway, it stands out and looks good. The product range in-store is generally pretty good, they have a great range of bottled sauces/dressings, Tesco Finest ready meals an average gluten-free selection. The staff seemed friendly enough. 4* - Pretty good Tesco store with a good selection and parking.

This is a large Sainsbury's store, located on Wilmslow Road, it is located next to John Lewis in…read moreCheadle, the two stores share an entryway, with John Lewis on the left, and Sainsbury's on the right. I would have thought a Waitrose Supermarket would have been better located here, as they're owned by John Lewis, it seems strange John Lewis letting a rival open up right next to them in the same building. It is fairly easy to get around the store, and the selection is good in most areas, although there were some notable issues. I did find the "Meal Deal" section consisting of bottled drinks, sandwiches, snacks etc being at the back of the store to be really annoying, and by the time I got there the section was depleted and out of stock of almost everything which is poor show. Sainsbury's Smartshop doesn't seem to work too well in this store due to the poor mobile signal, in some areas, I didn't have a service at all. Sainsbury's Smartshop is the feature which allows you to scan and bag items as you walk around the store before heading to the self-checkout to finish up. There is a Sainsbury's Cafe here, which is a dying breed now with Sainsbury's slowly phasing them across the store network. 3* - OK, it's a large Sainsbury's, fixing the signal issue and ensuring a good product selection in all areas are immediate improvements.
