They're open between 6 AM to 12 AM between Monday and Saturday, which is reasonable, although pre-COVID days they were 24-7 but everywhere seems to be scaling back their opening hours nowadays, all opening hours stated in this review are as of the time of writing and only include Monday to Saturday, as the hours change on a Sunday due to local legislation in England. Extra facilities inside the store include a Cafe, which is open until 5 pm, and a Pharmacy, which is open until 9 pm. There is also a petrol station. I was able to find all of the products that I came into store for today, and the scan as you shop feature with the handheld handsets was useful, allowing me to scan and bag items while walking around the store - I would much prefer integration into the Tesco app to use my mobile device to do this similar to what Marks and Spencer, ASDA and Sainsbury's have done. It tends to be pretty easy to get in and out of the car park and the petrol station. 4* - It's one of my favourite Tescos locally, while not the easiest on the eye, and it could do more to integrate features to compare with rivals, the selection is certainly very good.

The store offers good from every conceivable market sector, from electronics and entertainment to house decorations and hoovers. It also has it's own in-house, massively overpriced, Starbucks coffee store hidden right at the back of the store in the far corner. To be honest, the store is far, far too big to comfortably get around for a regular shop. The entrance area is becoming more and more clogged two. When it first opened it was clean and welcoming, but as time goes in various promotions and product pushes are practically forcing themselves in front of each other, eventually out of the doors to the store completely. Other than the entrance being a mess of promotions, the store is very clean. To conclude, far too big, but sells practically everything!

It is probably the largest convenience store in the city centre, stocking a range of essentials and a little bit more over two floors, you can get between the floors using an escalator, but there also is lift access (the lift is super slow though and has been for years!). There is a decent selection of to-go food and drinks, including a Costa Express coffee machine, you can also find the occasional item on the small yet useful hot food counter, but that does tend to go fast. The layout of the store is easy to follow, I personally dislike the two-floor format for a store like this, as it means having to spend more time going up/down escalators and searching around the store, this is the type of store you want to get in and out quickly, and being over two floors and a lack of supporting mobile payment similar to Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer nearby, there are drawbacks. Most of the staff seem friendly and helpful, but there are a couple of bad apples. There are plenty of self-service checkouts, and a couple of manned checkouts too, there always seems to be a handful of machines either not in use or broken down, so there's always a wait at the checkout for some reason. The prices are much higher now than they were under the Tesco Metro brand, so you are paying a good bit more than you would in a regular Tesco store, which is annoying! 4* - A good and large store in the city centre, yet could be far better.

I think what distinguishes Tesco from their peers and contemporaries however, is the limits they're willing to go to get an extra slice of the cake. Speaking of which, the reason I loathe this Tesco Metro more than the company's other stores is for the truly bad produce. I've accompanied friends shopping here and can honestly say both the bakery and ready meal section are truly disappointing. As is the dairy and meat selection downstairs. On the positive side, the wine and liquor section appears well stocked and the fruit and veg appear fresh and reasonably priced. The worst thing about this particular Tesco Metro is the atmosphere and the dodgy characters. The staff always seem harassed and it's usually so busy it's impossible to walk round without feeling stressed or like you should be on guard.

While it isn't the most modern of Sainsbury's locations in terms of appearance, the store was clean, I also liked how they had bags at the entrance for those using Sainsbury's Smartshop, this is such a simple thing to do but many supermarkets seem to forget this, so I'm glad they do this here. The selection is generally pretty good in most areas including dairy, free-from, beverages and alcohol. In certain areas, I don't find the labels to be clear, especially where many items of the same/similar range are packed together, I actually struggled to find an item which was right in front of me at first, because of this. 4* - Good supermarket in Altrincham town centre, but with many good supermarkets within Altrincham it has to do more in order to compete, I think it's doing that. I'm getting quite worried now. The location is good, being opposite the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City, do bear in mind on a match-day it can get super busy with football fans and the sale of alcohol to those attending the match is suspended due to police regulations. For such a large store, I do find the product range disappointing, I am never able to get all the items I want to come in for, which are often sold at smaller ASDA stores, which is strange. On a more recent visit, I noticed the few remaining Starbucks Nespresso capsules to be ripped open, it seems people had taken out the capsules and put back the cardboard holder. There is a Supercuts inside the store too, one of their two Manchester locations. There is also a Greggs, Opticians and Pharmacy area. As with any ASDA store, they do offer their Scan and Go app, where you can scan items as you shop and bag them up, using your phone. The staff seem friendly enough too. For such a large store, the product range could certainly be better, but they do offer good facilities and the location is good too, being right opposite what could possibly be the most beautiful football stadium in England in the Etihad Stadium, and being so close to Manchester city centre, whether that be via its' large car park (which also has a Timpson) or via bus or Metrolink services. 4* - Not a bad way to mark my first review in 2021 by upgrading this location from a three-star rating in 2014 to four now!

This branch of Sainsbury's is a very small store in Wilmslow, which in my opinion, in ways is more…read moreof a local-store, and certainly not somewhere you can conduct a weekly shop, especially when compared to other supermarkets, especially from the Sainsbury's brand who tend to occupy rather large stores and have a history of doing this at Heaton Park, Oldham and Blackpool, to name just 3 larger locations I have visited. The range in this store, was pretty basic and it was only a small store, the free from range was very poor, and the frozen selection was non-existent. The isles of the store as well were very short, and it seems 2 of them made up the size of an isle at another, larger store such as the branch at Heaton Park, Manchester for example. This store didn't have a good feel to it either, due to the size and range, it didn't have a cafe, which is similar to a nearby Waitrose supermarket. The prices were satisfactory, with some items being avaliable elsewhere for cheaper, the same or more expensive prices, for example Waitrose had better offers with newspapers and coffee, with a free newspaper if you spend £5 on a weekday or £10 on a weekend, and a free tea or coffee each day, but other items such as The new Kettle Bites seemed cheaper here by 50%, with it being £1 here but 50% more expensive at Waitrose for £1.50, although to be fair to Waitrose, they did have the full range and the 2 nicer flavours in my opinion, compared to this Sainsbury's who just had 2 out of the 4 in the full range that Waitrose did have. The staff didn't seem great, they seemed to be their just for the pay-check and not enhancing the customer experience and making it both better and easier for customers. This store is rather similar in size to the branch in Huddersfield, although I would say this store is slightly smaller. This store does have some nice stuff in, but that's about it and this store sadly isn't somewhere you could do a full weekly shop, and it does sadly deserve nothing more than a 2 star rating, which I still feel is quite fair.

Tesco Extra in Altrincham is a pretty large store, it is in the town centre, with a rival…read moresupermarket nearby, a poor branch of Sainsbury's which I actually had to pass to get here. The store is really large, especially for a town centre location, it has multiple bridges going into the store, I did initially get lost working my way in and somehow ended up going in through the employee entrance, the main entrance, however, seems to be through a sheltered car-park and then up a very steep travelator or a lift. The checkout and payment system seemed to be much easier to use than other stores, while they still have the handheld devices to scan as you shop (sadly they don't have a mobile app similar to Sainsbury's and ASDA), it seemed to be a newer interface on both the tills and the scanners, which made them quicker and easier to use - it looked better too, everything was clearer which I liked. The facilities in the store are good, there is also a Vision Express opticians as well as a Tesco Mobile Shop and Cafe. The staff around the store seemed friendly and happy to help, and they did have a good selection of products. I do find their booze area could have been managed better, as well as one aisle, they seemed to have different bottles on random corners, they could have been more together, sadly I couldn't find my favourite brand of rum, Dead Man's Fingers in stock. 4* - Good store overall, getting in and out the store could be easier, especially for pedestrians. The to-go food area could also be slightly more extensive for a store of its' size, and also didn't include a coffee machine.

This is a fairly nice Waitrose branch, it is around the corner from the train station in Wilmslow…read moretown centre, it is my favourite supermarket in the small town, I do much prefer it to Sainsbury's. While it isn't the largest or most modern store within the Cheshire East / Manchester area, and it sadly does not have a Cafe, it is a nice store with a good product range and some nice fresh counters. I have noticed a problem with the handheld scanners, you're supposed to be able to use a device to scan your products as you go around, but more recently they have either been out of order, charging or unavailable, it also doesn't help that the app is no longer supported as for some reason it seems to crash on iOS 14 (despite iOS 14 being out for over 3 months now). It'd also be useful if they had bags in this area, so you can scan as you shop, rather than going all the way to the other end of the store to get bags, to go back again to start your shop (Surely that ruins the process of what should make it easier?) I do find the set-up of the store a bit strange due to the construction, there are poles which are built into the store's structure in the middle of aisles, obviously, it can be rather uncomfortable if you want a product from where these are located and it isn't as open view and I'd have liked, it felt like I was back at Goodison Park but instead of looking at Everton, I was looking at gluten-free bread. 3* - Some decent products, a little pricey in some areas but that's Waitrose and they do have some good brands here, much better store overall than Sainsbury's but with a couple of major flaws, I do prefer their Altrincham branch locally for sure.

You see, Wilmslow has a real reputation for being a bit posh, so it really figures that there is a Waitrose. Personally, Waitrose isn't for me. Sure, all the produce here is really good quality but it's just so expensive. If you come here to do a weekly shop it can end up costing far more than you would expect. They just don't have any real budget items. There was a time when I was slightly addicted to getting my lunch from the Waitrose salad bar, but that's as far as my relationship with Waitrose has got. Asda all the way I say.
