After she made my bowl she asked if I wanted utensils, twice! Yes I'm not eating it with my fingers?! Don't waste your time or money, let these people go under. I always give small businesses a chance, this was not my first time here. I think 2nd or 3rd time and from reading the reviews.. nothing has changed in 6 years. While searching for ramen, we came across a Japanese sushi restaurant. It was great to see they had a nice ambiance with lots to check out, but of course, we went for the ramen. I loved the Shio Ramen with corn, my favorite topping for ramen and my friend tried the Tonkotsu. It was absolutely worth it for dinner. So delicious and server is nice! read more

The business was out of a lot of things. No tofu for poke bowls and the portions were very small for the price (12.99 small poke bowls 2 scoops). They were also out of some of the bowls (Hawaiian and calamari). The food tasted good but I do don't know if I would come again. My family tried the katsu bowls and they really enjoyed it. 5/5 for service, the lady here is super sweet but honestly the quality didn't look that good and the food was okay. Stumbled upon this spot while I was in the area and thought to myself hey why not. I love poke, I have a couple favorite poke spots in san diego, and obviously it doesn't beat hawaii poke, but I was not really impressed by this spot. I've been going here for almost 8 years since I was still in high school and around when it opened. Tammy is super friendly and always asks how I'm doing. It's nice to get great food, support small businesses, and just check in and catch up. Although I have been going here for almost 8 years, my order has evolved over time. Especially now! Recent menu additions have me trying new toppings and proteins. Don't be afraid to ask for a recommendation, Tammy will steer you in the right direction and have you trying new delicious things! Saying it's "the best poke shop in Santee" isn't fair as if I'm not mistaken, it's the ONLY poke shop in Santee. To be fair i'm having a hard time finding a NON-chain "go-to" poke spot in SD overall, but Ahi is... just ok. Everything about it is just ok, price a bit steep but that's what we've come to expect from seafood these days. For a quick bowl of Poke, sure it gets the job done. But I'd say, strive for more than just ok, who knows, maybe whip up your own bowl at the next door Trader Joes. read more

Coming from Los Angeles where poke bowls were the rage I had very high expectations. Given the opportunity to have a free lunch via Grubhub delivery I jumped at the chance to give this location an opportunity and ordered a large bowl with 5 protein choices. The delivery was great as it arrived early! The bowl was a nice size. There was a lot of brown rice. I had hoped that there would be a nice size potion of protein given the size and price. However it seemed to be less than what you typically get in a small size in LA. I requested my go to ponzu sauce and tried it with a sweet eel sauce. Probably not the best choice. Overall I did not enjoy the bowl. They had a high expectation to live up to and I'm afraid the mix I chose did not work out, but perhaps I'll give them a second chance, when I can order in person. read more

Best poke ever! The woman who served me was so kind to me, leading me through the menu. Weren't much people but it was giving me good vibes. Once I got home I dug in, it was so delicious I have never ate a poke so good!! first and foremost as soon as I walked in the lady working behind the counter did not acknowledge us. I should have taken that as a sign to turn around and leave but did not because I wanted to give the place a try. I placed my order exactly what I wanted. when she brought the food out to us the bowl had non of the toppings I asked for. when I went up to the employee she said I didn't not order any. I calming explained to her I did and if she could please put toppings she went on and only pit 3 small pieces of kimchi cucumber an extremely small amount of everything else as well. when we order our food she stated she only had one side of white rice so we told her to give us brown for the bowl and a side of white rice to our surprise when she brought the order with only white rice. i also ordered a sweet Hawaiian sweet tea. she brought me some weird murky dark brown drink with cucumber sesame seeds and god knows what else. when I told her that is not what I order she got upset and said they did not have the drink I order and that it varies base on what they have on hand which she did not explain to me when I paid. I asked her to simply refund me the drink that I did not want to drink whatever it was she was giving me. she did not even refund me the full amount of my drink she simply handed me $5 and keep in mind this drink cost more. we order close to $70 worth of food and sad to say very disappointed all and all. never again. stay away. not worth your money. read more

While I don't like rating the local shops poorly, this place is easily one of the worst spots to eat in Santee. Expensive bowls, low portions, and barely passable in terms of quality (as in you probably won't get sick). I have been here a few times in the past few months and each time the woman who helped was rude and rushed me through the process like she was being inconvenienced (with no one else in line behind me), so much during one visit I missed some toppings. The food is decent, but for that level of service I'm left with the impression that my money and business is not needed. On my last visit I asked for furikake (dried seaweed)and was told they don't have it. But the special they were running on the whiteboard included it. When I called it to her attention she said it's for the special bowl and would be extra.... Had you said that when I first asked for it I would not have had a problem paying the up charge, it left me with mixed feelings about the service. I am usually a 20% tipper as my base, but declined the tip because of the service alone. I don't like doing that, but I'm not going to reward someone for bad customer service. The food has been consistently good and filling in the eight years I've eaten here, and there are always neat new protein choices. The big drawback for me is the customer service from the main server (who has been here since the restaurant opened). She is not very inviting, rushes when asking you what you'd like in your bowl, and legitimately acts like she'd rather not be there. I finally decided to give this place a shot and overall felt it was just OKAY. I am used to the extremely friendly and clean Poke 1+1/2 (north park/convoy), whom offer free (even double) scoops of avocado and yellowtail is the same cost. Overall felt this bowl was smaller than those I've tried in the past. First impression: The air was nice and breezy outside, maybe 75º and when I walked in, it felt like 90º which grossed me out for a fish place. It was half poke restaurant, half swap meet. They had a random assortment of electronics and random boots for sale like a yard sale. Felt it was a little gross lol. The lady working was very short and not overly friendly. Felt like she wanted me to pick quick so I could leave (and keep in mind I already knew what I wanted). Overall the rice was very good and the fish was fine, not sure how trustworthy/fresh it was, but knocking stars because the place seemed unkept and way too hot for comfort- maybe they should open the door for circulation? Also knocking another star because for 75cents I received two TINY slivers of avocado extra. I had an avocado at home and ended up adding it to my bowl. Plus yellowtail does not cost more at other poke places. Anyway. Not bad, but weird experience. If they clean up their location/turn on the AC/open the door for air, I'd give it another shot. read more

Both times the food has been amazing and I cant wait to order more. Worst poke ever. We ordered to go. One had a salad base, one had a rice base. We were never notified the order was ready. The salad base had next to no salad and had excess sauce which made it soggy. It was a disgusting mess. The one with rice was also poor. The tuna was not fresh. The rice was completely in clumps and it was missing sauce. Save your money. I am going to start this off with saying that this is the best value of poki for what you pay I think I have ever seen. You get a lot of fish, a lot of vegetables, and the price is not bad at all. The balance they have between the quantity of fish, rice, vegetables, and sauce are actually really fairly equal. It was able to get some of everything in almost every bite, which when it comes to poki, is important. My boyfriend told me that I had to try this place when I came to visit him and he was right. We ended up going there a few times in the two weeks I was in town. They also have sushi burritos, which were interesting. The flavor was not bad, though a little difficult to eat. I was not overly impressed with the pork buns. The bun itself was nice, but the sauce on the pork was too sweet for my liking. The biggest surprise was how good the spicy lemonade was, especially the spicy mango lemonade. They were the perfect mix of sweet, spicy, refreshing... a perfect acidic/sweet addition to their poki bowls. This is definitely going to be my go to poki place whenever I am in Santee. read more

Not recommended. The first thing I noticed was how small the portion was - I ordered a medium ($14.00 with tax), and it was less than I'm used to seeing as a small elsewhere. Poke places are popping up everywhere in San Diego, not that I am complaining, because I do love that poke. I stopped in for lunch at this Poke place and ordered the three protein bowl choosing salmon, tuna, and red snapper with a variety of toppings served over brown rice for $9.99. It was some good poke but I was a little concern with the small serving. When you pay $10 for a bowl of poke, you expect to be filled up or at least somewhat filled up but after this one, I was still hungry and needed to go find more food. They need to use a deeper bowl. All three proteins were minimal in a small bowl and a small about of brown rice on the bottom. On a good note, it was a tasty poke bowl and all three proteins, especially the red snapper tasted great. They like to mix the top ingredients with the sauce you choose, so if you prefer for them to place them a top in little piles, do let them know. I love the way I feel after eating fresh fish , vegetables , rice and delicious sauces . You just feel energized and light weight . It's nice . To be honest I've never eaten at one of these up and coming poke bowl restaurants . So I don't exactly know what to expect . When ordering a poke bowl you can buy 2 , 3 or 5 scoops of mouth watering fresh raw fish .Accompanied with your pick of rice or salad , then you pick the vegetables , toppings and excellent sauces . It's a lot of fun creating a custom poke bowl . They have pre created bowls with clever names . Everything I've eaten was memorable . Enjoyed each and every nibble of my bowl . Ahi Poke has never failed to satisfy my poke cravings. I have been several times and usually order a large bowl with white rice and salmon, tuna, shrimp and/or krab. I typically get all the toppings and sides with ponzu, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. The portions are massive! I am always impressed by the quality of the fish, the freshness of the rice, and the overall taste and quality of all the topping and sauces. The woman who is always working isn't incredibly bubbly, but she is always kind and efficient. I had a customized poke bowl here and it was not good. I found the ingriedients lacking in both quantity and quality compared to other Poke spots. The salad was also not very fresh. The rice was steamed rice like the kind you get at asian restaurants but just a bit more moist. This was disappointing and far from the norm of using sushi rice.
