I was so excited to try this place because it looks very cute from the outside and it's close to where I live, so win win. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and while even from the beginning there were warning signs, we tried to make the best of the birthday dinner.
Unfortunately, that was quite hard to do.
Firstly, we were seated quickly as there were about three other tables occupied in the place, which means it was pretty empty. We saw a sparking red wine on the menu which piqued our interest. We asked the waitress, Arielle, I believe, if she had tried it and she said it was delicious so we decided to get a bottle while we looked at our food. Arielle brought us the bottle already opened and said that she was sorry she didn't open it in front of us but it makes too much noise. We were both confused as I have never bought a bottle of wine or anything that was not opened in front of us to show it was new and to let us try it first. Again, as this was my boyfriend's birthday, I said, fine, and let her pour. We were shocked that the "sparkling" wine didn't really pour as if it was brand new, i.e. there weren't many bubbles. We suspected it had been opened before and then given to us.
We thought about ordering several appetizers (because we are those kind of people who want to try everything!) but we kept it light and we ordered just two appetizers--calamari and fried cheese croquettes. Thank goodness we did this because both of the appetizers came out cold. It was like they had just heated it up quickly or had these setting out ready somehow. I took a bite of the fried cheese and was shocked when out came a deluge of cold cheese. It was so much cheese and I didn't even bother trying to eat it all. I wouldn't even touch the calamari because I couldn't stomach another cold appetizer. We let the waitress know that the appetizers were cold and asked if they had been pre-made. She insisted this wasn't the case and said that she had watched the cooks make each item. My boyfriend and I just looked at each other and I know we were thinking the same thing---yeah right! You have been walking around and serving and somehow you had time to stand there and watch the cooks make this food? Again, we felt like we were being lied to.
I asked to send the items back and she took them away. Our pizza came and it was fine, nothing to write home about but as were starving at that time--it was good enough for us! I was going to ask the waitress to see if they did anything special for birthdays, but I could tell after our conversation about the appetizers, she was not interested in helping us. It was apparent that she had decided we weren't going to tip her so there was no need to give us good service. When she dropped our pizza off in front of us, she said "enjoy" and walked straight away. We ended up having to ask someone else to bring us water when we were out because she was not checking on us anymore.
We got our bill and we were both relieved the appetizers were taken off so we didn't have to ask. But it really was just a sad excuse for a dinner and the 60 bucks with our previously opened bottle, our mediocre pizza and tip, well it just wasn't worth it.
I'm writing this just to give our experience as we were really excited to try this place out and it was just a disappointment. I think if you go for the pizza and ambience (it is a pretty restaurant), I think you will be fine. Just don't expect the food or service to be top-shelf. read more
