She asks a lot of questions to make sure she's got the whole picture to best help you get better and to keep being healthy. But no worries if you're there to see her with an awkward issue. There's no one who makes embarrassing medical stuff easy to talk about better than Dr. Chang. She's also very fond of ordering tests, (including some you've never heard of or seen on an episode of House) to make sure she catches those 1 in a million diagnoses and she doesn't miss anything. Dr. Chang is also very much for keeping the patient informed. I never leave her office without some sort of pamphlet or handout to educate myself and being proactive about my health. I've had 4 doctors total in my life, and after Dr. Stewart, my childhood pediatrician who was the epitome of awesome, Dr. Chang is a very close 2nd.

I was able to see her within the hour and once I did, she had me out the door and rushed to the Emergency Room. Dr. Joyce Chang had performed the tests necessary to conclude what my illness was. Upon doing so...I had to be rushed to the Emergency Room. Next thing I knew, I had to have all of my family next to me and inform them of my massive tumor growing inside of me. If it wasn't for Dr. Joyce Chang, I would not be sitting here and typing this review. Because of the massive tumor, I have since had an additional surgery (total of two), but I cannot thank Dr. Joyce Chang enough. She is my guardian angel.

I liked Dr. Arvan's qualifications and hospital affiliation. (Torrance Memorial). I am so glad that Dr. Arvan was willing to see me. Dr. Arvan is excellent. She Listens, asks the right questions, addresses the issues of your concern, and has excellent relationships with many doctors, and knows what and where you may need to go next. Dr. Arvan didn't review any of the paperwork I gave her which included recent lab reports, diagnosis and treatment plans, etc. She didn't ask me any questions about my health or how I was feeling. She was more worried about the natural supplements I was taking to treat SIBO not being FDA approved. I simply needed to get a physical exam done to qualify for a discount on my medical insurance but she refused to treat me because I'm seeing an ND as well. Are you kidding me? I'm taking things like calcium, multi vitamin, vitamin D, K, C. I'm also on HRT but she didn't like that either. How would she have any idea on my hormone levels without even looking at my lab results. What a waste of time. Seems she doesn't like her patients seeing anyone but MDs. I usually see Crystal who is a nurse practitioner (She's Amazing) I believe the one prior to her was Anastasia when they were near the Torrance Airport (she was amazing as well)l. I come in once a year for my annual and that's literally it. The only reason I've stuck around is because records are here. The office staff is hit or miss with respect to politeness (front desk). If you hate your job then quit. Remember, just like you only want to take folks with PPO insurance, we call take our business elsewhere. I have a PPO because I like selecting my doctors so I was weary of going to see a doctor I hadn't researched or selected. Since I feel I get amazing care with my current medical provider I decided to take her recommendation. I didn't know what to expect from my appointment with Dr. Duffin. I have a very limited understanding of what rheumotologists do. Dr, Duffin took the time to pull up my medical records on some medical record sharing software system. He went through about 5 years of my medical history asking me questions and reading over lab reports, doctor's notes and my MRI. Dr. Duffin was able to tell me what was wrong with me, what I should expect and how I can treat it. He took the time to show me things online, explain to me what he was showing me and he printed up some materials for me to take home and read. He was very patient in answering all my questions. He ordered a few more blood tests and called me on a Sunday to report the results when I called his office with a question he called me back on a weeknight at 10pm. I'm not sure if the Sunday and 10pm calls are for everyone, but I didn't mind. If you're in the market for a rheumotologist, I highly recommend Dr. Duffin!

I was coming in for an underlying medical issue and instead of talking about that issue, Dr Lee kept asking me about my skin since I have acne. My acne is actually a symptom of my medical issue and I was trying the holistic route to get my symptoms under control. That day, I remember thinking "okay my skin has actually calmed down and wasn't looking too bad." Janet Lee, however, made it a point to tell me "you're a pretty girl, but your acne is not okay" and proceeded to tell me about her aesthetic med spa where she believed Morpheus 8 would change my skin. Morpheus 8 is micro-needling and if I know anything about micro/needle, I know I'm not a candidate because my acne is active. Dr Janet Lee spent the rest of my appointment trying to push this service on me and telling me to save my money to do it (she told me it's about $4k for 2 sessions). This is after I asked her to write me a prescription for a glucose monitor bc my blood sugar levels is what I'm worried about. This is the reason I came in for my appt. She gave me so much push back trying to convince me not to get a glucose monitor bc "it's not completely accurate," "the monitor is going to be in the way and you're going to feel it on the back of your arm," and so on. If you want a doctor who doesn't listen and will just push her own agenda on you, please go see Dr Lee, but if you want someone more compassionate and not as incompetent, go elsewhere. I had to tell the manager I was not in love with UCLA as an orthopedist at UCLA Santa Monica wanted to replace my right knee and it did not need to be totally replaced. I recently needed a colonoscopy and had FIVE that's 5 cancellations from UCLA. They tell everybody with huge tacky banners that UCLA is the BEST hospital in the west. Baloney. What about Stanford, UCSF, and Berkley. And Scripps. UCLA is NOT the #5 hospital in the country, no matter if US News and World Report said that once. I have been a very frequent patient of UCLA for 35 years. Probably a mistake. Dr. Kim is cold and hard with negative bedside manner. She must have gone to medical school at Rikers Island and done her residency at Sing Sing. I suggest you drive to their main campus in Westwood where you get treated with compassion, dignity and respect.
