I needed someone to replace a drainage system on the side of my house because the previous contractor did it completely wrong. They originally installed the drainage PVC pipe way too high and piled the dirt to high up on the side of the wall so moisture and water was leaking into the house causing wood floors to buckle. I have to say that Aguilar's Landscaping exceeded my expectations. I designed my landscaping using CAD software tools and rendered detailed pictorials of the concept, which included lawn, 24" x 24" pavers, California Gold stone, three Citrus trees, bark, and a mix of plants, such as lavender and others that met the HOA requirements which were very specific. In fact, the plan had to be approved by the HOA. Having experience in the building industry including landscaping, I scrutinized how they removed the sand in the lot, prepped the soil, added wire mesh to keep the burrowing critters out, the type of weed preventing ground cloth (which was thick commercial grade; not the thin grey stuff that easily disintegrates), how well they installed that weed preventing ground cloth, the 2x4 perimeter barriers using non-toxic plastic (pressure treated is cheaper, if you don't have pets), how they graded/leveled the backyard, and most importantly, the drip and sprinkler system and network of pipes and control valves tied into the existing timer. The crew took great care to position and level the heavy concrete statuary, which was impressive and beyond my expectations as mentioned earlier. The landscaper confirmed time and again the proper materials, without assumptions. That in itself is huge. Providing a detailed plan and specs are imperative. Israel was thoughtful, caring, knowledgeable, and professional, and the crew was hardworking. In terms of price, it was competitive. Considering the amount of work required, I think that level of work was worth every penny spent, in my opinion. It's been weeks since the job was completed, and the backyard looks terrific from what it was to what it is today. I can relax and enjoy a job well done. And that speaks for itself. What began as a sand-filled lot/backyard, the type of which is seen on a beach, was beyond concerning. It's a new build in a new community setting - Sand was everywhere. Now, it's a low-maintenance yard which makes every cup of coffee sipped taste that much better, while basking in the sun, watching the dogs play, etc. What more can I say? I wanted a low maintenance nice-looking yard with natural grass...mission accomplished! I would hire Aguilar's Landscaping again if I had another property which required landscaping in his area of coverage. (Note that I happened to notice that my next-door neighbor who hired a different landscaper, had similar pavers surrounded by river pebbles installed atop the "thin grey weed-preventing cloth" that I can almost guarantee will disintegrate in due time. And that thin grey weed preventing cloth wasn't even properly installed from the foundation of the house to the fence along the pathway. So, my neighbor will end up with weeds rising through those river pebbles and in between those pavers...and it won't take long, IMO.) read more

He removed all existing crabgrass, brought in several cubic yards of dirt to level the yard, installed new irrigation with an automatic timer, laid fresh fescue sod, poured a concrete slab in an irregular area and also poured a nice, 10" wide mow-strip around the perimeter of the entire yard. I am really happy to choose Aguilar's Landscaping. Israel is super responsive and reasonable in every aspect. My house has an awful landscaping situation and also drainage was poor. I have met Israel multiple times to make a plan for french drain, front/backyard/sideways to be paved. He also took care of checking with the city about any requirement of any permit. Once the work started, I love his team as I see so diligent and not missing any day. As my house is sitting on a hill, it is tricky to make the plan - considering the drainage path, and ground grade for better water flow including retaining walls to block sliding dirt. Also, it required several tons of dirt to be dug and dumped. The result after multiple weeks turned out to be a super clean/beautiful and functional/usable yard which all my neighbors are also praising while walking by and driving by. No more worry about water drainage problems either. Israel's pricing is very competitive, but that is not only the reason you need to look. Israel & Gonzalo are wonderful! They made our sand pit of a backyard into a beautiful lawn & patio for our new construction home in Marina. We found Aguilars on Yelp and are so happy we did! Their pricing was affordable for our budget and the team was professional, courteous & friendly! Our project took about 3 weeks (with a couple rain delays) and since we had a simple design, we had 1-2 dedicated workers each day. The pavers for our patio are incredible! Gonzalo and his associates are true craftsmen! They also extended the width of our driveway by 3 ft with the same pavers. We had frescue sod put in for our lawn and our pup has been very happy. They also installed mulch down one of our never used side yards and decomposed granite (DG) on the side with our gate for easy access for garbage cans. Israel came by a couple weeks later to check in and assist us in setting up our water schedule for our sprinklers. We asked for the fence line planter bed to just have soil & drip line added so we could install our own flowers. They were very accommodating to our needs. Israel is THE MAN... We were in need of someone to remove our dying/dead backyard lawn area and replace it with a more maintenance-free, draught-resistant alternative. We contacted three different landscapers through Yelp. One vendor didn't even bother to return contact, the second vendor did come out and look at our job, but the combination of their attitude and ridiculously-high estimate, made us say, "No, thanks..." Enter Israel, from Aguilar's Landscaping. He replied to our online questions quickly, and very courteously, and we spoke on the phone to set up a visit and estimate for our project. Israel came out and immediately impressed us with his knowledge, his attention to detail, his courteousness, and his willingness to work with our budget. Prior to contacting Israel, we had previously researched materials for the job (rock, gravel, and decomposed granite), and had an estimate for what it would cost to purchase and have delivered. Israel said he could procure the materials at a much cheaper cost, deliver and install them, and his bid -- for everything -- was MUCH more reasonable than the competitors'. He explained, very accurately, what would be needed, and mentioned how he could do the job in three days (the aforementioned competitor -- who wanted to charge three times as much for the job -- said it would take them two weeks!), and he was right on! Israel, and his crew, were some of the hardest workers I've ever seen. They were tireless in their efforts, were professional and courteous, and they were very attentive to our questions and concerns. Always with a smile on their faces, Israel and his crew delivered on their promises and kept us within our budget and executed the job perfectly, as advertised, in three days. I had called the phone # listed here on Yelp to schedule an appointment and someone answered the phone and said, "Hello", so I said, "Hi, is this Aguilar's Landscaping?" and the person said "Yes", (obviously this is unprofessional and was a red flag to begin with) & so I proceeded to find out that I was talking to the owner, Mr. Aguilar, and I scheduled an appointment with him to come out a week later on Sept. 1st, anytime between 11am-12pm. I asked if it would be him, or an employee of his, and he said it would be him. Long story short he never showed, never called or anything to notify me that he wouldn't show, or even to reschedule. I've still yet to be contacted, and so I'm leaving this official review of my service as it was a literal waste of my time. Obviously I'd be open to changing/updating my review if I were to be contacted and this situation rectified, but I've already had another company that was much more professional come out and give me an estimate, so we'll see if there's even an opportunity for restitution.. read more

After speaking to several landscapers, we decided to go with Israel. His price was competitive with the others but I just got a sense that he understood what we were going for. We moved in to a home with only sand in the backyard and now we have a gorgeous yard with pavers, artificial grass, a gazebo and beautiful plants. I gave Israel a drawing of what I wanted where and we met a couple of times to look at products. After showing him the types of plants I liked, he purchased everything and it's exactly what I wanted. He made good suggestions throughout the process based on his experience and that helped me to make choices I hadn't thought about. They also installed irrigation and electric outlets, installed our fountain and assembled and secured the gazebo we purchased online. The guys who work for him were considerate and helpful. He arrived on time and was nice and super receptive, offering up suggestions etc. After discussing what I was looking for he said that he would have a quote emailed to me that evening, Thursday. After hearing nothing, I sent him a text on Saturday confirming my email and letting him know that I hadn't received anything yet. No response. I called Monday morning two times and left a voicemail the second time asking him to give me a call. Never did I hear back from him, not even a courtesy call to say he wasn't interested, which I found odd because he was initially interested and this was not a small job, several $10,000's. Rule #1 of running any business - follow up with your clients, you're not the only guy in the area. Based on my experience I would definitely not recommend Israel for any sort of work. He built a new deck, totally replaced the existing landscaping and irrigation, added irrigation to all pots and came back to make minor adjustments. He was not afraid to tell me that a certain design idea is terrible or bad, and he would offer and explain an alternative. Between my ideas and Israel's professional input, a solid plan was finally set, and the front and backyard landscape design and implementation were done beautifully. I called Aguilar's Landscaping because I needed to have some plants removed on my rental property that were growing onto the tile on my patio. Israel called me back within 15 minutes and told me he would come by to see the area. Israel made some excellent suggestions and offered to replace the current plants with succulents, to put in some decorative pebbles, to replant some other plants into a nice pot, to power wash the stone and to put a sealant on the stone. Israel did a fantastic job, and he was very reasonably priced! I highly recommend using this company.
