Lymans's Firewood Sale & Maintenance

Now that I actually have a fireplace, the family has demanded the occasional fire. With small…read morebundles of wood running around $6-$8 at Ralph's or Sprouts, we figured it would be best to find somewhere a bit cheaper if we wanted to have regular fires. Searching through Yelp, we found this place back in Encinitas, and made a point to swing back next time we were on the coast. Anyway, Lyman's is actually a house with a long driveway that leads to a massive backyard that has obviously become the cutting ground for the refuse of a tree maintenance service. This gives a massive amount of wood from various types of trees to chop up and toss on the pile. When you arrive, you can find boxes to load up with whatever you can stuff into it. At $7 for a fill-it-yourself box, you can generally get about three times as much wood as you would buy over at a grocery store. It burns well, smells good, and is one hell of a bargain. For $20 (the sales price for three boxes), we loaded up my truck and have enough wood for a good 12+ fires. Once falls comes back in full swing, we'll slowly burn through the rest of it and definitely come back for more.

I found Lyman's while searching the web for hardwood firewood. Wanting more information than on…read moretheir website, I phoned and left a message. My call was returned less than a hour later. I opted to pick up some oak abd drove up to their yard in Leucadia today. It was easy to find, and the setup was as described. The yard is self-serve. I bought a "bin" of oak ($55) and a box of starter wood ($5 special for December), loaded it into my car trunk, and easily paid by Zelle (they also take cash or check).
